Oh, sod it, please don't let all this teasing be for something for MP. I have almost 0 interest in multiplayer (other than maybe an occasional drunken fun run with people I know.)

Luka and Korbin, with Rion and Thornton, are what makes multiplayer fun for me :D

While I'm not opposed to new MP DLC (we surely could use some new maps and enemies), this level of torture BW is dishing out better be for some really good SP DLC. It better not all be for MP because my thousand suns fury will cause me to combust.

BW better get it together before I relegate that "day one" DAI DLC money to another company (I'm already making googly eyes and blowing kisses at The Witcher 3's expansion packs).

Spoiler

Love this shot.

With the way that dagger is positioned near the hand, it looks like your Cadash is using it as a stick to play fetch with the dragon...

"Who's a terrifying and mutated abomination of all that the Stone holds dear? You are, Isana Urtok! Yes, you are! Now... go fetch!"

I've been completely soured on MP of any sort by bad experiences. The people who think MP is so fantastic aren't women (which automatically guarantees crap being dumped on you in a random pickup group) and have never made a mistake while in one of those groups with someone who thinks he walks on water and is therefore entitled to scream at anyone whose dyslexia causes them to make a wrong turn, etc. I game for fun, and I've never found anything remotely fun about any MP that wasn't strictly people I already knew well.

OK, I will never be able to look at that screenshot the same way again. Because that dragon looks just like a dog eagerly waiting to chase the stick now... :P

It gets even better, imagine how disappointed poor dragon puppy was when we launched that trebuchet at the mountain, causing an avalanche to nearly fall on his and Corypheus' heads... I bet he thought he was playing fetch the boulder for a second.

I bet Corypheus has to tell him to stop being excited every time he picks up that Orb.

Maker, now I have that in my head too! What's funniest is I'll be playing that scene with Zhenya finally in the next couple of days, and I'll spend the entire time thinking of the pseudo-archdemon as a puppy... :P

Hey, guys, does anyone happen to recall off the top of their head when the Tomb of Fairel etc. are meant to have been built in the Hissing Wastes? The wiki is not helping me.

I think we debated this a while back, but I'm not certain we came up with more than speculation.

I checked my screenshots and cross checked them with the wiki.

The "A Journal on Dwarven Ruins" codexes across the zone mention a time range of several hundred years to a thousand years ago.

There's nothing in the wiki for "The Four Pillars" other that it's a map Harding gives to you so here's the text (I think it pops up when you claim one of the camps):

Eh, that's the norm in a lot of MMORPGs, sadly. Most of the female players I know who actually raid refuse to voice during the raid so no one knows they're not guys. I enjoyed PVP sometimes, though, because frankly, it doesn't matter whether they know you're female or not, they still die if you know what you're doing. ;)

I think the MP is fine.  I don't love it, but I don't hate it either.  To be honest, though, I always play without a headset and I mute the other players.  If a PuG requires me to be on speaker, I'd rather they kick me right away.  Otherwise, I play blissfully unaware of whatever nonsense they are spouting.

It's sad that folks encounter so many vitriolic players on MP.

I met some of my best gaming buddies on PS4 DAIMP. Now X1 DAIMP has introduced me to some questionable folks but there have been a few beacons in the darkness.

Know Your Lore: The Caste & The Casteless
http://www.dragonage...-casteless-lore

castes_article-header.jpg

Visitors to Orzammar should keep in mind that the hierarchies of dwarven society are much more complex than our own. It is easy to gravely insult a man simply by mistaking his position. Since this can lead to unnecessary loss of life and limbs, I will attempt to mitigate the danger for my fellow travelers.

The society of Orzammar is divided into nobles, warriors, smiths, artisans, miners, merchants, and servants. Now, you are undoubtedly saying to yourself, "We have all those divisions among our own people." This is a dangerous misconception. Certainly, we do have nobility, artisans, merchants, and these positions are largely inherited from our parents. However, the younger children of noblemen often choose to be artisans or soldiers. The sons of merchants may join the army, or become servants, or apprentice themselves to a craftsman. This is all freely chosen. Limited, perhaps, by the circumstances of birth, but still chosen.

What is a matter of choice for most human folk is dictated entirely by birth for dwarves. No one may become a smith who was not born to Smith Caste parents. A servant who marries a noblewoman will never be a noble himself, and although his daughters would be nobles, his sons would be servants, for daughters inherit the caste of their mother, while sons inherit the caste of their father.

—From In Pursuit of Knowledge: The Travels of a Chantry Scholar by Brother Genitivi

castes_IMAGE_01_ENG.jpg

The caste system in Orzammar includes many groups of privilege--the nobility and the warriors above all others, but to a lesser degree the merchants and the smiths and the miners. Tradition establishes a clear hierarchy. But as in any culture with an upper class, there is also a clear underclass. These unfortunates, the so-called "casteless," are believed to be descendants of criminals and other undesirables. They have been looked down upon since Orzammar's foundation. They have taken up residence in a place called "Dust Town," a crumbling ruin on the fringe of Orzammar's common areas.

Orzammar society considers these casteless lower than even the Servant Caste (indeed, the casteless are not allowed to become servants, as it is too honorable a position). They are seen as little better than animals, their faces branded at birth to mark them as the bastard children of the kingdom. Their home district, little more than a slum, is a haven for crime, organized and otherwise. Orzammar's guards seemingly cannot be bothered to patrol its streets. The best that most casteless dwarves can hope for is a life at the whim of a local crime lord, ended abruptly by violence or an overabundance of toxic lichen ale.

Even so, there is some hope for the casteless, a dangling rope that offers a way up into greater Orzammar society. Since a dwarf's caste is determined by the parent of the same sex, the male child of a nobleman is part of that noble's house and caste. Strangely, it is acceptable for casteless women to train in the arts of courtly romance to woo nobles and warriors; they are known as "noble hunters." Any male born from such a union is considered a joyous event, considering the low rate of dwarven fertility. The mother and entire family are then taken in by the father's house, although they retain their caste.

The dwarves we know on the surface are also considered casteless once they leave Orzammar, although this is only relevant to those who return--if they are allowed to return at all. Dwarves who leave for the surface (the "sun-touched," as they're often called behind their backs) lose their connection to the Stone and the favor of the ancestors, and thus are worthy of little more than pity, for upon dying they are said to be lost to the Stone forever. Put that way, it seems a sad existence indeed.

—From Stone Halls of the Dwarves by Brother Genitivi, Chantry scholar

More teasing. I'm ready for this dwarf centric DLC. It's nice to see the dwarves' lore again. I hope this isn't only for dwarf appreciation's week.

I haven't played with any PUGs on DA MP, most of my bad experiences were in WoW and SWtOR. Mostly it's because I only play for fun (if it's not fun, I don't force myself through it) and with a PUG, you're probably getting people who take it far more seriously. I made a few runs with some PC players who also played purely for fun, but we never finished anything (for one thing, we usually played at least one person short, lol.) I enjoyed the social part of it, but otherwise I prefer single player these days. I want gaming partners who can find anything funny, including falling down elevator shafts to our deaths and an epic level of getting lost, and it's hard to find that sort of gamer.

I guess I've been lucky. I've met a lot of older gamers on DAIMP who just wanted to play for the fun of it. We'd just game and help newbies learn the ropes if they stumbled into our public lobbies. I've also met a lot of stoned gamers who just played to play while they waited for certain effects to kick in LOL. But they were really cool.

I've never played WoW or really any other MMO game. DAI is my first. I tried ESO but it sucks and I wish I could get a refund for it.

lol! Well, some of the instances call for teams of 20 or (I think?) 40 people. The people who do those tend to be the sort who spend several hours a day trying to farm the perfect gear for raiding and spend more hours studying YouTube videos of "perfect" raid parties taking down major bosses. And they only want people in their parties who take it just as seriously (though honestly, those major raids are the equivalent to nightmare difficulty, you can't afford deadweight.) Because you can virtually never form a group just out of your own friends, it's more or less guaranteed that there will be at least one or two people in the group who immediately dismisses any woman trying to tank, and assumes any woman playing a flexible class is automatically a healer (you have to use a voice system for these raids, too many people for text.) A friend of mine who loves to tank has a new story at least once a week, I swear. Fortunately, she could put Vivienne in her place  :P

Yikes! Playing something with that many folks at once would annoy me. That's probably why I can't get into ESO with all the people everywhere. I just remembered too that GTA Online was my first dip into any type of MP but even that was fine with me because you did missions with up to 8 folks only. The free roaming lobbies were restricted to 25 folks or less.

Speaking of castes, anyone know if it's been mentioned anywhere what caste the Cadash family was before their exile to the surface?

The wiki claims they were part of the Warrior caste, but that seems to be due to the implication that Shale was a warrior before her transition into a Golem... which doesn't seem to be all that iron-clad as far as confirmation goes, when we've seen members of the Noble caste fight as warriors as well.

Doesn't matter much since Cadash is obviously casteless and a surfacer, but it'd be nice to have some more background on their family history. Here's hoping that the teasing for Orzammar is because we've got some kind of DLC coming soon (and Cadash get some unique dialogue for once).

Good question. As you say, in her updated codex entry, Shale is refered as "Shayle of House Cadash, warrior of King Valtor." Also during the Witch Hunt DLC, in the Letters from the Past entry codex, Regnar of House Cadash's title is "commander", which sounds pretty military to me and can be a hint at House Cadash being of Warrior Caste. But the Dwarf Noble was also named commander by Endrin, if I remember the dialogue properly, so it's not a definitive clue. Also we know House Cadash used to own a thaig, but nowhere it is written that it was a privilege for noble Houses only (the miner House Valdasine used to own a thaig too).

There is a DLC coming "very soon™". Let's just hope it'll be about dwarves, yes, and that Cadash will not be as ignorant as Lavellan. :P

No kidding! I'm still wrapping my brain around my Lavellan hunter not having any option to respond to being told she wasn't a hunter, lol... (referring to their own Web site info on a Dalish warrior "you were raised in the wilderness to be a hunter, relied upon by the Lavellan clan for food and protection.") I haven't actually taken my Dalish mage to the temple of Mythal to have to ask Morrigan who Mythal was as she stands there with Mythal's tattoos on her face, that one should be hilarious... :P
