The combat system looks interesting, but does anyone know if The Dwarves has any female characters in it? I might be able to overcome my dislike of fixed RPG protagonists for a dwarf, but I'm reluctant to back a game that contains no women at all. Every companion picture and character design they're showing for the campaign seems to be of dudes. Dwarf ladies also need love!

I mean, maybe it's one of those universes where dwarves have little sexual dimorphism and half of those bearded badasses with giant axes are female? I would be cool with that. I just don't like playing in settings where dwarf dudes get to fight and have adventures and the women have to sit at home - it's one of my big problems with Drakensang and the reason I couldn't take to LotR online.

If they keep to the books there are many capable female dwarves around (e.g. the best fighter and smith from Clan Ironfinger and champion of the First Tribe is a woman) and at least one dwarven queen.

Edit: Female dwarves only have a... how do you call it... "peach fuzz", if the google translator is correct, at maximum. No full-blown beard.

I haven't seen a full one yet. :(

And not specifically dwarf related, but I REALLY wanna hear the angry-Inquisitor-stabs-a-map speech with Jon and Sumalee's voices.

Male American voice is the best voice.

He's very good! I'm torn between him and Alix as my favorites. He sounds convincingly fed-up with this ****, she sounds like she's seething with rage.

Hadden-Paton was... kiiiinda lackluster, and I haven't heard Montano's angreh Inky yet.

Quick question: would a dwarfquisitor who wanted to keep the lyrium trade nice and healthy be more inclined to recruit the mages or the templars? I thought templars cuz, yah know. Addicted. And mages only use lyrium when they're drained/doing something big but... I dunno. Not sure. The game makes it sound like they both use lots.

The templars buy lyrium on a regular basis, the mages more rarely - but when they do, they buy it in very large amounts. I guess it all depends on whether your dwarfquisitor prefers steady incomes or to hit the jackpot every now and then. The first is definitely safer, while the second is more random, but the priiiiize... ;)

Finished my dwarf PT yesterday. Easily one of my favorites I've played FemCadash and Sera is too cute , I love it. <3

Gonna probably roll with Male Cadash for Cassandra next because they're just the cutest. I love dwarves.

That is all.

Also, while I know we're a surface dwarf I kinda wished ...
Descent stuff below

Can go either way. Also consider if you'll let Cullen wean himself or force him to stay on it.

That's meta-knowledge ofc but combined with the idea of going with the mages being indicative of a sorta gambling nature I'm favoring them again now. Poor templars. I really wanna meet Calpernia but I seem to have srs trouble rolling and sticking with someone who'd go that route.

For what it's worth, I do remember the Carta dwarf in Haven favoring the templars over the mages.

[Side with templars.]
Dwarf: “Look at this, templars all around. We’ll have the Breach closed up in no time.”
Human: “And I suppose the Inquisition will be sending gold your way to purchase lyrium for those templars?”
Dwarf: “See? Everyone comes out happy.”

[Side with mages.]
Dwarf: “Mages. Lovely.”
Human: “They should have this Breach sealed soon enough.”
Dwarf: “I suppose their gold spends as well as anyone else’s.”

So a friend and I are brainstorming a short-ish story about a merc band outside the Inquisition during its events. We've come up with an interesting little group, and one of them is an ex-Carta dwarf who was keeping a side business for an extra cut of the lyrium trade. He fled when he was about to be caught and works as a merc now, mostly artificer-type abilities, more traps and poisons than straight-on fighting. Thing is, a while ago he got a bit of lyrium in his bloodstream, so like that dwarf merchant in Orzammar, he has a bit of trouble focusing and hallucinates images sometimes. We call him Wim, short for Wimmar.

Wimmar's from Orzammar but his family moved to the surface when he was young, so he's effectively a surfacer in terms of culture and outlook. I did a sketch of him and the vashoth in their group, Bas:

merc-chars_zpsuqixqngz.png

There's also a displaced Orlesian noble swashbuckler and a disabled but talented herbalist elf in their group. I'll draw them eventually but my friend is making their basic designs in the CC first. I figured you guys might be interested in seeing Wim. :) I can share the face I made for him in the CC if anyone's curious, but I edited a lot in the sketch afterwards.

That's one sexy dwarf. I think this armor suits him well, although like many armor in DA (and in most fantasy universe to be honest) it is probably a bad idea to actualy do any kind of combat in that outfit, (unless you are an oiled-up gladiator in an arena )

I get a lot of enjoyment from the love people have for their characters. I would say elves are probably at the near bottom of races I'd play (if I ever moved beyond dwarves), but I follow a few elf fans on tumblr because of the sheer devotion and joy they get from their OCs.

Calpernia's armor makes the male dwarf look too thin in my opinion. I wish the armor would had scale to fit the dwarf's body shape.  :(

Agreed, it is funny sometimes how a character just pop up in your head and you grow very fond of it.

Elrik, my favorite Inquisitor, just appaered out of the blue, I wanted a dwarf warrior, and after only a few moment in the character creator, he was here, with full personnality and backstory. It doesn't always happen like that, but when it does (for me at least) those character are the most fun to,play (I still have a few stained and torn paper sheets with my favorite paper RPG characters at home, all of them kind of appeared fully developped like Elrik... okay end of memoru lane trip :D )

For me in creating a character for the game. Part of it is using the character creator, I know I will go in with one idea of how I want an Inquisitor to look and leave with a different looking one that I'm pleased and proud of. I usually have some idea of their backstory when I go into the character creator but its when I finish the prologue that I flesh it out.

So I go to the Keep and use that bio they give you for our heroes and fill those out for my newly minted inquisitors to finish their backstory and will occasionally add to it as I progress through the story to highlight their friendships and the paths they chose.

@snackrat -- Oh, wow. That's more dismissive than I thought. Thanks for sharing that. I had wondered about the Harding resolution.
