Didn't realize they cut out their tongues. Don't know how I missed that. Thanks for mentioning it. And Cole said that Renn had returned to the Stone, didn't he? I took that to mean his death was pretty final. Could be wrong!

Anyway, I've been trying to look up Cadash stuff like heraldry or whatever. Deepstalkers seem kind of generic, but I did find the wiki entry for Cadash Stompers. The description says: "The crest of House Cadash still lingers, pressed deep into the hardened leather of these well-worn boots."

This is me, trying to discern the shape on the teeny tiny screenshot.

Stop looking at me like that!  :blink: Is there a tiny picture you could embed here so we can squint too?

@TobyTobsen

A lot of folks seem to think Leliana's "recovery" after being killed in that final room of the Gauntlet was a writer's arse-pull, but I totally disagree. Oghren says that room is radiating magic due to lyrium in the walls or something, and we know about the healing properties of the Urn. There's no reason not to consider the room to be the healing entity rather than just the urn ashes (which simply became a healing powder because of the room). So now that you mention it, I could definitely see a scenario in which Renn gets resuscitated using the same sort of healing magic in a lyrium-intensive place. They did go out of their way to say the body was missing after all. Actually, come to think of it, Cole did say Renn had "returned to the Stone", but his words about Valta at the end (other than the slipping, sliding litany bit) were that she now could do "healing." Hmm. Maybe Dwarf Mages will be the only ones to have healing magic in DA4. hahaha

Another detail I missed was Valta's insisting the stone preceded the Titans- gave birth to them- so there goes my creation myth- or at least my earth-creation myth. When the huge lyrium veins are first seen and everyone reacts to it, they speculate about how it's remained intact despite the Sha-Brytol mining it for use in their armor, and Valta says, "Unless they found a way to harness it." We already know lyrium is alive- so it probably grows- but maybe there's something more to it? Like there's some sort of fertilizer or something? Like that huge underground sea. Then it would be more of a renewable resource, unlike oil, so I don't have to get all conservationist about it, other than establishing regulatory laws to prevent over-mining. I'll convince Bhelen to do it! Don't make me!

With the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if dwarves were the fertilizer, given... everything. Solas's severed arm comment, everything we learned in Descent, the ambiguous and sort of ominous translation of Mathas gar na fornent pa tot isatunoll from Leliana/Tug, the fact that only the non-casteless strengthen the Stone in death (when they're entombed)...

Just watch. Solas rips open the Veil and dwarves are MiracleGro. :lol:

It was just easier to load up the game and take a closer look. This screenshot is the best I can do with the wonky camera angles. (WTB flycam.)

Ha! Maybe they adopted it when they went to the surface? Can't imagine there's an abundance of flora in the Deep Roads.

@vertigomez

I hope not... It's already implied that elves used Titans that way. Better not be all dwarveses. Ugh... But I haven't gotten to Trespasser yet, so I'll pretend for now that elves are just nice magical folks who happen to like frilly sword pommels. :whistle:

Since the dwarves provided harbor for the fleeing elves in the Cad'halash Thaig, the elves were probably the ones who came up with the damn design. =p

A 4-leaf flower definitely doesn't remind me of the most vicious, notorious carta ring in all Thedas... Maybe a 5-leaf flower though. Or it's there just daring anyone not to take them seriously. (The boots certainly didn't. I couldn't see how to make a rogue tank in DAO.) Does the Cadash carta like to drop a flower on a corpse after they kill a rival or a poor trading partner? A flower...  :lol:  I think that's going way beyond any thinking of the devs on the matter. I bet they never even checked on the Cadash Stomper design as that DLC worked its way through production. If Gilsa hadn't pointed it out I'd never have even thought to look there. The DAWiki pictures of it don't show anything.

Btw, I just checked on the PT in DAWiki, and it had this to say...

The thaig is overgrown by red lyrium, and a lyrium idol is found in it. Over the course of the game it is discovered that this idol summons spirits, and can be used to cast spells, even by non-mages.

Oh, yeah?? I mean, I played it, but... a lyrium idol can enable even non-mage folks to use spells?? I suppose I did see some pretty nasty red magic coming from Meredith, but I wouldn't have described it as casting spells. I like the implication that a lyrium infusion might enable magic though. Valta does say that the Guardian had infused her with blue lyrium and remarked at how she hadn't been adversely affected- rather felt very good, in fact. So it just has to get into you the right way apparently... Sooo something that could happen to a dwarven protagonist...

In a world state where Leliana died at the end of Sacred Ashes, if she isn't made Divine...

Huh, I wonder if the reason why Cad'Halash is so green is due to a Titan having been killed there.

"We will make the earth blossom with their passing" so an ancient inscription in the Temple of Mythal said. Personally I'm not sure if I like that idea or not.

As for the crest, I don't think it's a flower. I mean it could be, but I don't want it to be since yeah it's not at all what I'd expect. I like to think of it as being an elaborate cross.

Yes I know I'm pulling things out of my ass. :P

Huh. I'd like to get a hold of the original texture and see if I can get a clearer picture of the crest. Granted, that means sorting through thousands of texture files, and if it's from the DLC, don't think the ModMaker can do that. :| I'd love a clear picture so I could vectorize the crest.

I'd dearly love to see that if you're able to pull it off somehow! I have no idea how to extract textures from the DAO toolset, but I imagine since that's from the Stone Prisoner DLC, it's likely not available. I could be wrong.

Looks more like really simple Celtic-style interlaced circles to me. Something similar to this, but possibly with a more complicated structure in the (sadly pixelated) center:

But that just might be wishful thinking :P

Speaking of dwarves and flowers, is anyone a bit disappointed that a dwarf didn't have the option in DA:O to question what Alistair's rose was and why he was offering a dead plant to a warden, lol?

I'm guessing by the time you actually get that far in the romance the Warden has been on the surface long enough to know some basic plants and maybe get the idea that surfacers LIKE dead plants (flower stalls, flower motif armor, etc). I think my Warden Aeducan was more confused on what she's supposed to do when it's just very obviously dead. She kept it in her inventory but like... are you supposed to keep them forever? Do surfacers just have huge piles of dead plants in trunks somewhere in their dwellings? Do they bury them? Are they edible?

I assumed my Aeducan had at least a book familiarity with surfacers. I ended up headcannoning my Brosca pretending she understood why he was giving her a dead plant that was clearly dried out and tasteless (I mean, his speech makes it clear he's trying to be romantic at least,) then taking it to Leliana secretly and asking wtf do I do with this, was I supposed to eat it?

Headcanon time: Since Brosca and Aeducan have both become Grey Wardens at the same time in my story and they're traveling together, it was my Galar Brosca who actually picked up the rose in Lothering. He then went to Leliana for asking her how he could preserve it (Rica had once told him about roses, those pretty red flowers that smelled good, and he absolutely wanted to bring that one to her, the day they'd return to Orzammar). So the rose ended drying in a book. It was quite a bummer for Alistair, though not so much for Freyja - she never was interested in long-legs anyway. :bandit:

Worst race in the series. Bioware should just cut them completely from CC since only a select few even bother to plays as them.

Hey, heads up, a dwarf couple mods worth noting at Nexus:

-- DF outerwear at Skyhold: http://www.nexusmods...tion/mods/910/?

--  Hawke's warpaint for dwarves: http://www.nexusmods...tion/mods/896/?

I like the availability of the latter because I thought long and hard about tattoos for my dwarf and decided that if it wasn't mandatory, then I didn't see my surfacer doing it on purpose. There was dwarf merchant in DAO that talked about painting temporary tattoos on when they had to sell in the Diamond Quarter and wiping it off when they left. That always stuck with me, the idea of just painting things on without conforming. So that's why Hawke's warpaint mod appeals to me on some level.
