WOOT! I love dwarves.
Anyway, as this is in the Inquisition Story and Character section, do you guys think the dwarven Inquisitor, who is confirmed to be coming from a surface crime family of lyrium smugglers, be better as a rogue or a warrior?

I'm planning to have one Cadash as a rogue, and the other as a warrior. I think both fit pretty well - they'd probably just have slightly different jobs in the Carta.
The dwarf origins were my favourites in DAO, and my noble dwarf was my favourite Warden, so I'm really looking forward to playing a dwarf again. And to meeting dwarves, old and new! It's a little sad we don't have any new dwarf companions (not that I don't love Varric, I just wish there was someone else as well) but I'm pleased we'll get to see Dagna again. And Harding looks great.

Dwarf Noble is also my favorite origin and Warden. It's kind of easy to roleplay as an entitled jerk as him, and really easy to roleplay a thuggish nature for the casteless.
It's also easy to roleplay them maturing and growing more understanding overall as they spend time on the surface and away from Orzammar.

Although it is always subject to change, my 4th and 8th playthroughs of DA:I will be Dwarf playthroughs!
First; my Female Dwarf Rogue; Margaret "Maggie" Cadash. Daggers/Bow hybrid build. Artificer specialization.
-A quirky, fun, incredibly intelligent person.
-Level-headed, yet tends to lose herself in her craft
-A planner, over-achiever, and perfectionist
-Has the brilliant mind, creativity, and hands of a Paragon
-Very excited to have vast amounts of resources thrown her way to be spent how she sees fit.
-Will spend considerably more time and attention to the detail of the Inquisition, making sure that each and every branch/force is appropriately outfitted for success.
-Tactical and calculating.
-Will use the "tricks, techniques, and seedy practices" of her past criminal life to benefit the Inquisition/Thedas as a whole.
-Has an unhealthy obsession to her weapons/creations (similar to Varric and Bianca)
-Ultimately, a very Diplomatic character, believes in putting aside differences and past lives to unite as one force. Literally the quote "Whatever we were before, we are now The Inquisition"
Next; my Male Dwarf Warrior; Troy Cadash. Two-Handed build. Champion specialization.
-A tough fighter who is torn between honor and seedier elements.
-Can be described as an "honorary mercenary"
-No black and white morality/code of ethics for him, only grey.
-Fights for the greater cause, but does sketchy things to achieve his end goal. To him, the ends justify the means. Whatever the means.
-People are indifferent to his ways, but ultimately they know not to question him: because he always gets the job done.
-Always looks for a profit or "an edge", anything to get ahead and gain influence.
-As a result of his previous life as a criminal, he doesn't feel much sympathy towards the common folk. He survived and made due despite his tough life. He feels people should help themselves and not depend on charity.
-Can be perceived as ruthless and calculating.
-Despite all of this, he is not generally a "bad guy". He is a Hero and honor-bound, whose past consistently catches up with him, making him resort to his older petty ways to get ahead.

Really contrasting Inquisitors. I'm excited for the back-stories they provided for them, really excited to finally be a Dwarf in the Carta (besides what we've seen in the Dwarf Commoner Origin).
I think what's cool about what I incorporated when creating these two Inquisitors was how their past influences them during the events of Inquisition. Maggie uses his wits and seedy techniques from her past life in Carta to benefit the Inquisition whenever possible, but never to benefit herself. Troy, on the other hand, totally uses exploits when he sees the opportunity. Although he understands he is now something greater, and has a code of honor within him, he can't help but reenact some of the shady things he's done in the past.

Have to admit I found a few of the female dwarfs in Origins cute, especially Dagna. Weird though.....I don't remember there being a single female dwarf in DA 2

That's because there weren't any. No dwarf female model existed in da2 so none showed up. It's one of the things that gave people a "Well this was rushed" feeling about da2 (I say that as someone who likes da2...it was rushed. Not what it could have been)

I liked it, as the specs were fun to use, especially force Mage and Reaver, but it felt damn odd levelling up and my hawke having access to powerful force and blood magics. Lol
Back to dwarfs, did you all know there will be a dwarf in the next novel, the Last flight???

All I've got to say is... How do you make Dwarves a playable race, but leave out the Berserker specialization? I get that Cadash is supposed to be a skygazer, but for analogy's sake I was raised in the US and got the basics of Capoeira down.

The berserkers are native to Orzammar maybe? The surface does have Ash Warriors though...umm.....no clue.

That's what I mean. A lot of Fereldans are Berserkers.

Well we know that the Ash Warriors derive their teachings from the Clayne tribesmen who followed Luthias Dwarfson, who learnt to be a Berserker himself from Orzammar. So, while Ash Warriors might have ventured elsewhere in Thedas and taught others, Origins gave the impression that they were a mostly Ferelden phenomenon and were rather secretive when it came to the tricks of their trade.
As for why the Dwarf Inquisitor isn't able to become a Berserker, we know that our family are heavily involved in the Carta. I could imagine that the Carta prefers a certain level of finesse over brute strength when it comes to pulling off jobs, either by stealth (using Rogues) or directly (using Warriors). It's probably better to send in a level-headed tank who's a veritable brick wall, than a warrior who's foaming at the mouth, who's screaming will attract every guard in the house down on your heads and who might accidentally carve through their own team whilst lost in their own bloodlust.
Not to say that we are necessarily Carta members ourselves, but it would make sense that we were brought up in that environment with that kind of mentality and combat training in mind. Being a Berserker is fine for facing against an army of Darkspawn, but for racketeering or muscling out competition, it's pretty much useless. Obsolence of their more traditional combat techniques is also probably why most Surface Dwarves we have encountered thus far tend to be Rogues, rather than Warriors?

All good points. I can accept this. Though I don't think it's as secretive as you make it out to be. Fighting with Mabari hounds as battle brothers is a distinct Fereldan fighting style. And a lot of Fereldans (nobles even) fight with hounds as their battle brothers. There's an overlap with this style and the Battle-Wrath the Clayne (and the Ash Warriors) learned from Luthias Dwarfson. I suspect that it's also why the Berserker spec was available to Warrior Hawke. It's probably looked at as the national martial style of Orzammar and Ferelden by the rest of Thedas.
This is mostly speculation on my part though.

My guess is that specializations are tied to companions and/or advisors (pretty much companions, I think). Since none of our companions are Orzammar warriors or Ash warriors, and the only dwarven companion is a rogue (and probably an artificier), the specialization is not available. The only way to justify it would be if Blackwall somehow learned secret dwarf techniques since he's a Grey Warden, but doesn't seem likely.
It also would explain why the Dalish Mage won't get the Keeper specialization.

With over 200 spells and abilities I am sure there is a class or two that is similar to the Berserker. Even though I will miss being a berserker, it is my favorite warrior class. I also love the vanguard Tree combined with the berserker tree in DA2.

Okay I have to admit even though my head canon inquisitor is going to be a human female who romances Sera, I might have to for once play as a dwarf female and also romance Sera or Josephine or both cause......female dwarfs are actually really cute.
