Hmmm. I'd like a male dwarf warrior too. And even though I rather liked Oghren, I would not like a clone of him though, maybe someone more like Ren? And he would be actually proud of being a dwarfy dwarf! :P

I wouldn't mind if he was pragmatic and sarcastic. Which I don't think is out of place since the glimpse of dwarf politics in Origins shows us just how cuthroat it gets. So to have a companion who's a bit more calculating would be nice.

But I agree. These dwarfs need to be proud of being dwarfs.

So a bit like Gorim? The man was honorable, yet not afraid to get his hand dirty for the sake of his lord/lady Aeducan.

It's been awhile since I played Dwarf noble on Origins, so I'll defer to you on his personality.

I did like Gorim so I'd be okay with someone like that.

I really would love Harding as a companion. I'm not sure I'd want another Carta member, even though I loved the Brosca origin. We've had that as an origin in both games with playable dwarves, and Varric in two games, and it's becoming, frankly, way too predictable (like 3 consecutive human noble origins, .) I'd prefer to see a recent exile/casteless, maybe like Gorim, as someone pointed out. Though with a bit more fire to him (Gorim, understandably, comes across as a bit of a courtier, saying what's expected.) NOT an Oghren type, please. I'm really not thrilled with their drunk redneck conception of dwarves, especially considering the engineering and mechanical genius they've displayed.

How about someone from the servant's caste who accepted exile to protect someone else, and is still proud of being a dwarf even if he or she had been at the bottom of the pecking order? Miner caste? Smith caste? I'd also be thrilled if we got someone with connections to the Shaperate or some other part of dwarven culture that we really haven't seen much of.

Playable dwarf-only shaper magic for an origin!

Good points, Tishina.

I'll admit I'm one of the people who likes playing human noble backgrounds so I have no problem with them.  B)  But I can understand others being tired of it.

My point about the Carta was we were in the Carta in Origins and Inquisition, but it didn't seem that fleshed out in my opinion.

A minor caste would be interesting like the ones you mentioned, b/c we haven't seen that angle before.

A connection to the shaperate would be really cool! I won't lie I kind of wanted Valta as a future companion/ love interest when we first met her in Descent, but now after seeing how that DLC unfolded, I doubt that will happen.

I like Harding. She has potential, and I believe probably has the best chance of making it the new game as a companion, but she's a surfacer like Varric who doesn't seem that interested in dwarf culture.

My preference would be to have Harding return and have a male dwarf warrior as well - someone from Orzammar, the Tevinter Ambassadoria or even Kal-Sharok. The only time we've been able to have two dwarves in the party so far was Awakening. I'd be interested in exploring the dynamic between a surfacer like Harding and someone who was brought up in underground dwarf culture of one kind or another.

And both of them should be romanceable! You know how it is, you wait sixteen years for a bus, then two come along at once ...

So, I've finally managed to play the game, and just finished my initial playthrough: male dwarf warrior. Gotta say, I liked the game. And I liked being a dwarf. It wasn't as tied to the plot as elves, but it was acknowledged consistently throughout the game and even got a few spotlights in the DLC. I'm playing on PS4 right now, and my comp is in the shop, so no screenshots, but I wanted to touch base with my fellow dwarf-lovers.

I'm less in love with the way that apparently every dwarf not in Orzammar or the Merchant's Guild is part of the carta.

I think the exception so far has been Harding. Maybe they'll start breaking out of the stereotypes in DA4. We can hope, at least.

I haven't, but i've spent this entire month reading art books and practicing to Proko's tutorials (on youtube). I drew out an entire sketch book with practicing lines (for shading and hair), lips, eyes, noses, headshapes, guidelines-drawing etc. :)

Ok. I love Harding just as much as the next dwarf's fan. But, I think it would be awesome to have a dwarf companion from Kal-Sharok who's all about traditions and a Tevinter Ambassadoria dwarf that's pushing for change for his people. Harding could serve as a scout for the new protagonist, because remember the Inquisitor needs people that Solas wouldn't recognize, and Harding would be a dead give away.

I think it was more people he wouldn't know how they worked so he couldn't predict what they might do rather than recognizing them physically. He wouldn't be facing them physcially himself, and he's only going to be able to describe so many people to his agents. Solas isn't any kind of omnipotent god, by his own statements about the ancient elven "gods," he's just very skilled at intrigue, magically very powerful, and apparently very experienced in tactics and strategies of an underground guerrilla movement (probable slave revolt in Tevinter?) Our contact with Harding wasn't that extensive, so I don't think she's out of the question (otherwise literally anyone we came into contact with down to the lowest stablehand and kitchen maid, however briefly, in DAI is excluded.)

Someone from Kal'Sharok would rock, though there the question would be how would we have the contacts to recruit one and know enough about him or her to trust? We know less about Kal'Sharok than we did about the qun in DAO. Especially if we got two dwarven companions, I'd love Harding to be one. The fact Mike Laidlaw seemed to like her so much gives me a little hope.

To be honest, I need to really play the DLC again. I've only played Trespasser once, so I don't have a huge understanding of Solas' explanation. The way that I interpreted what the inquisitor said was that they needed to find people that Solas wouldn't know. I think he said those exact words. Because if anyone can track down Solas, then the inquisitor himself/herself could just come up with a plan to find Solas and take him down/save him.

I think a Kal'Sharok dwarf would be able to give us insight on their culture. Kind of how Sten gave us insight on the qun.

*Descent spoilers below*

As much as I liked Descent and the dwarf focus of the DLC. I'll admit to being disappointed that it didn't have to do with Kal'Sharok.

I thought that would've been a great way to introduce this mysterious Thaig to players. It could've provided us with a lot of detail and insight and history of how the Thaig was 'rediscovered.'

We got two great new dwarf characters Ren and Valta and some wonderful new lore on the dwarfs, but a lot of it was just too big in their reveals. I mean there is still so much we don't know about the dwarfs and their culture and instead of focusing on that we got some big, life altering answers about them that by the end of the DLC it seems clear will still be a secret.  I would have been satisfied with just Kal'Sharok and discovering more about them. Learning how they survived and maybe having the Inquisition being called in to help b/c their thaig was facing some sort of threat.

It just felt like Bioware seemed to think that to get people's interest in dwarfs and this DLC they needed to reveal Titans and huge revelations about the world instead of starting off with something smaller and simpler and honestly I think more interesting.

I mean the more I think about it the less satisfied I am with the Sha-Brytol. They were just battle fodder. We didn't get any understanding of their culture or their history, they were just mooks to be killed. And having their tongues cut out just seemed to be a lazy excuse of not having to get further information on them.

I think of my few biggest critiques with Inquisition was that Bioware failed to provide us with an adequate perspective on our enemies. In ME, ME 2, DA Origins, and KOTOR, Bioware gave us cut scenes and glimpses of what our enemies were doing. That was sorely needed for the Elder One to see what he was up to and how he was reacting to not just our Inquisition but to him adjusting to this new world. We do get this partially in the Calpernia quest but that wasn't hardly enough.

Same thing with the Freeman of the Dales. I thought they were a missed opportunity. We have no cutscenes, no interactions with them. No chance to try to talk to them, to try to persuade them to stop. They never get a chance to give their justification or try to explain how they got so desperate that they allied with the Red  Templars. The best we get is just some scattered codex letters that partially fill it in. Which isn't nearly as compelling as actual interaction with them.

I'm sorry for going off topic at the end, and sorry that became a lot longer post then I intended it to be.

That's just my opinion no need to spread it around.

I get where you're coming from. Just like Inquisitor Cadash said "I'm leaving with more questions than answers."  I'm glad that they at least gave us some insight on where the dwarves came from and their God. But, you do have a point on it being a big reveal. Maybe if we got hints here and there in the vanilla game, more could have been revealed in the DLC.

It's good that they're finally giving the dwarves something to add more to their culture, because up into the Descent DLC, elves has been getting most of the lore reveals.

Dwarven Inquisitor should be canon.  It just feels right.  I've tried to make other characters and other races, but it feels wrong.  Like a lie, or fanfiction.

Here's a picture I submitted to Gamefaqs.  They were sorely lacking Dwarves in their pic section.

Agree about the female dwarf concept, Tishina. It's like Bioware are trying to get more people to play the dwarves by making them cute. Even the male dwarves look a little like models, but I also understand that they're working with a new engine.
