*Descent spoilers below*
As much as I liked Descent and the dwarf focus of the DLC. I'll admit to being disappointed that it didn't have to do with Kal'Sharok.
I thought that would've been a great way to introduce this mysterious Thaig to players. It could've provided us with a lot of detail and insight and history of how the Thaig was 'rediscovered.'
We got two great new dwarf characters Ren and Valta and some wonderful new lore on the dwarfs, but a lot of it was just too big in their reveals. I mean there is still so much we don't know about the dwarfs and their culture and instead of focusing on that we got some big, life altering answers about them that by the end of the DLC it seems clear will still be a secret. I would have been satisfied with just Kal'Sharok and discovering more about them. Learning how they survived and maybe having the Inquisition being called in to help b/c their thaig was facing some sort of threat.
It just felt like Bioware seemed to think that to get people's interest in dwarfs and this DLC they needed to reveal Titans and huge revelations about the world instead of starting off with something smaller and simpler and honestly I think more interesting.
I mean the more I think about it the less satisfied I am with the Sha-Brytol. They were just battle fodder. We didn't get any understanding of their culture or their history, they were just mooks to be killed. And having their tongues cut out just seemed to be a lazy excuse of not having to get further information on them.
I think of my few biggest critiques with Inquisition was that Bioware failed to provide us with an adequate perspective on our enemies. In ME, ME 2, DA Origins, and KOTOR, Bioware gave us cut scenes and glimpses of what our enemies were doing. That was sorely needed for the Elder One to see what he was up to and how he was reacting to not just our Inquisition but to him adjusting to this new world. We do get this partially in the Calpernia quest but that wasn't hardly enough.
Same thing with the Freeman of the Dales. I thought they were a missed opportunity. We have no cutscenes, no interactions with them. No chance to try to talk to them, to try to persuade them to stop. They never get a chance to give their justification or try to explain how they got so desperate that they allied with the Red Templars. The best we get is just some scattered codex letters that partially fill it in. Which isn't nearly as compelling as actual interaction with them.
I'm sorry for going off topic at the end, and sorry that became a lot longer post then I intended it to be.
That's just my opinion no need to spread it around.
