I've started DA:Iing again and I'm excited for when I get my current Cadash to The Descent so I can replay it and then reread discussion of it here to see all y'alls insights! When the DLCs came out I played them, but I was busy with other things and didn't get time to process them so I'm enjoying soaking back into Thedas and my beloved dorfs.

Welcome back. You're going to love Descent.

That looks awesome! I can't seem to easily find system requirements for it though, but I can look at that when its closer to release date anyway.

I'm still working on my male Cadash PT. I think I have restarted this character twice, once because I decided to make a different choice with him, and then another because I decided I wanted to do a different romance. I just switched the romance again, lmao. I've had the hardest time picking between Dorian and Cassandra for him, but I think I have landed on Cass. I think I just keep picking Dorian because I love him and his romance so much, but Cass makes more sense for this character and the dynamic between them is interesting, and it's the only way I'll really get to fully explore the Cass romance because it's so hard for me to get my male characters not to romance Dorian, lmfao. I love Cass soooo much, but the whole needing to play a hetero male character to do it has made that hard for me. I could mod it, but I don't like that as much.

Anyway, I'm not ready for the Descent yet, but when I get there, who are the best companions for the most interesting comments? I remember last time I took Solas and he said basically nothing, smh. I took him because he usually has interesting things to say about areas, but I forgot he doesn't really care about dwarves, lmao. I was imagining Varric, Cole, and IB? Or does someone else offer more? And there's not any romance dialogue, right? I was considering taking Cass just for RP value since she's Olim's LI, but if there are three other people who have good comments, I might not.

Well actually you don't have to play a hetero male character to romance Cass, you can also romance her with a bisexual or pansexual male character. Anyway, CassxCadash is best pairing, it is known.

Myself I took Cass, Varric and Vivi during my Descent playthrough - except for Varric, they didn't have much to say.

You're right! I should have said "do a heterosexual romance with a male character" lmao.  (or f/m romance, I suppose, because I know some people  object to the idea of a bisexual in an opposite sex relationship being called heterosexual since both parties aren't heterosexual, I'm bisexual and I don't have a problem with it tho ) Particularly silly slip of me because my male dwarf is bisexual, hence all my waffling about with who he should romance.

I've heard IB has comments in Trespasser, maybe Cole. I'm not sure if I'm overlooking someone else. I didn't get much in the way of comments from my crew, if I recall (Solas, Blackwall, and Sera.)

As far as lore developing goes, I expect DA4 to focus on ancient elves, Qunari and of course, Tevinter.

It is what I remember from that slideshow where Patrick Weekes presents a list of goals for the future of the franchise, anyway.

I expect DA5 to be the one dwarfy game where we really dig into their greatest secrets.

Makes sense. I don't expect a focus on the secrets of the ancient dwarves or titans in this game (although I imagine it will continue to be hinted at/touched on), but I will be sad if our understanding of dwarven culture/history, particularly Kal Sharok because I assume the Ambassadoria is a given, isn't expanded in the next game.

I've never actually played NWN. Kinda went straight from Baldur's Gate to Dragon Age/Mass Effect with my Bioware games. But dwarves with magic strikes me as odd in every medium I see it in, now. Dragon Age (and LOTR, I suppose) definitely ruined that for me, too. lol

Also, on an off topic note, your sig is great.

DAI already has expanded dwarven lore a little and I wouldn't be surprised if DA4 made its own contribution as well.

I'm speaking of having it really take the spotlight as elven lore did by the end of Inquisition and Trespasser.

Thank you. It's a Joss Whedon quote, and frankly a nice summation of my interests. B)

You should give NWN a shot, if you get the chance! The OC is nothing to write home about, but the expansions are great. And NWN2 + MotB is fantastic.

Maybe they found a Titan and he said it was cool?

Ha! Well, if a Titan says it's okay... :bandit:

I've read a few Forgotten Realms/Dragon Age crossovers. It's actually pretty neat watching characters freak out over magic or the lack of magic in an unfamiliar setting. Solas would be pleased?

I used a mod once to give my Cadash a magic staff. That felt weird, and looked weird too because the animations/weapons weren't built for her frame. But it was strangely satisfying for a time.

I'm on the Descent now and having the best time with my male Cadash. He's my sort of "canon parallel" PT in that I've RPed him from the start as being an Orzammar dwarf who was exiled and is only allowed to return because of his position in the Carta, and  thus follows the Stone and has more sensitivity to it than most surface dwarfs (but less than the Legion characters or Orzammar dwarves), and so far it's totally supporting that as did the base game.

I really enjoyed being able to be all "wink wink, I can get into Orzammar anytime I want" to Scout Harding, but even a lot of the generic options fit so well. I have always headcanoned him as hating Harrowmont, so when I got the option to ask about dwarven politics and there weren't any auto dialogues that went against that, I was really pleased. His interactions with Valta and Renn are also producing some meaningful things too wrt that. So far I think I'm getting more out of this DLC RPing a character who is more steeped in the lore but less supported by the game, which is very exciting. But even if it does end up going against it in a way that's hard to avoid or headcanon around, which is possible and fair, I'm glad to see it all again, because I've forgotten a lot of the details except for the big parts.

It's been soooo long since I made it back to Orzammar with a casteless Warden, and holy crap I forgot how bad it was. Bad, but good. Because immersion! Loghain's messenger takes a cue from the guy guarding the doors and insults you for being a brand despite barely knowing what a deshyr is.

Spoiler

And the captain of the guard is a right arsebiscuit:

"I have enough crime without some casteless carrying weapons in the city."

"Warden? You? When I heard they accepted a brand I thought it was a joke. Surfacers and their cloud-addled heads. Fine, oh illustrious Grey Warden, what do you want?"

"You have little faith in your own city, brand. Excuse me, Warden, but this isn't Dust Town."

It's funny if you use the 'ignorant' options (that I suppose are more for new players than anything), like asking what a Paragon is - everyone's offended. "Are you sure you're still a dwarf?"

I can just imagine how humiliating it would be for Brosca to have earned their companions' respect at this point, only to return home and be treated like less than dirt in front of them. Certainly enlightening for the non-dwarves in the party!

I remember being so annoyed because it was like this huge ordeal for my Brosca and so emotional and she had just killed her best friend and then Alistair and...I forget who else, Zev? Leli were just bantering like usual and making snide comments about the place, lmao. I was like, does no one care about her pain????

(This was my first PT of my first Bioware game, so I genuinely thought they were being jerks, I didn't know to think about the kinds of limitations this particular type of RPG has.)

Well, I finished my second Cadash. It was a lot of fun! I was surpised to get Cassandra as Divine. I figured since I had allied with the mages and supported Celene/Briala, I'd get Leli. I did support Cass, but I've supported her multiple times and never gotten her before. Figures it would be the one PT I didn't want it. But it's kind of fun to have my Cadash, who the game reads an atheist since there aren't any options for my RP, to be bangin' the Divine.

Some screenshots!

Your Cadash is super cute! (Um, in a manly, dwarfly way.)

Two. Vaguely planning a third, but not until I've played my second human and second elf some time later this year. I want to get through all eight romances; haven't done Cullen or Cassandra yet. Then maybe a ninth Inquisitor who will just crush on Scout Harding. That would also let me try all the specializations.

Hehe, I tried to get him to be kind of a pretty boy, but still with strong dwarven features, so thank you!

I'd like to get through all the romances too. I've completely finished Sera, Blackwall, Dorian, Cullen, and Cassandra. Solas I have a character about halfway through, so I just have Josie and IB left. I'd like to try all the specializations too because I never feel like I get a strong hold on them unless I've used them as a player character. Even on my NM run, by the time I got specializations + most of the abilities, I didn't need to control any of the other party members very often.

So I have:

Cadash - Assassin - Blackwall
Cadash - Artificer - Cassandra
Lavellan - Knight Enchanter - Cullen

Lavellan - Tempest - Solas

Trevelyan - Champion - Dorian

Adaar - Rift Mage - Sera

So I think eventually I'll do a Trev Necromancer with IB and a Reaver Adaar with Josie. I don't know if I'll have it in me to do a 9th run of it, tbh, so I may never get to Templar, but if I do, that will be my final Cadash.  It will have to be later though, I'm gonna try to finish my Solavellan run and then either take a break from playing DA or do an Origins-DA2 to DA:I run because I haven't done that in awhile.

What specializations did you give your Cadash characters? I love dwarven warriors conceptually, but since rogue is my favorite class to play, I had both of my Cadash characters be rogues.

I've played one rogue Assassin - my 'canon' Inquisitor - and one warrior Champion. Possible third Cadash will be a Reaver!

I'm in the middle of a Brosca PT myself, but haven't gotten back to Orzammar yet. Having Morrigan along is worth it, when you run into your mother. Probably the only companion who takes notice of anything - she sympathizes with you about having a problematic mother... I've always played it with the headcannon that my Brosca has forewarned her companions and explained she was going to be about as welcome as a rampaging archdemon...

Going back as an Aeducan is eye-opening too. The tavernkeeper refuses to serve you and a lot of people insult you, believing you killed your brother. OTOH, some people are actually decent to a Brosca (because she's the aunt to the prince's son of course.) I thought the two dwarf origins were two of the best at integrating the background into the later game.

Through to killing Corypheus? None yet :P I got discouraged with Reska for various reasons. Then I got Zhenya down to the point of just needing to go through the Arbor Wilds and kill Cory and got sidetracked (also hoping I'm going to be able to "fix" the problem that makes Trespasser a problem for me before she kills Cory.) Because of mod incompatibilities, I won't be playing anyone else until I finish Vetra's PT. She finished WE/WH and Abyss and is currently working her way through Emprise.

It's entirely possibly I may have both Vetra and Zhenya finished within a week of each other ;) I'm good at that.
