So you're going to play female dwarf after all? Awesome! Will it be your first PT?

I have to say now I'm actually excited to play Lady Hobbit. I'm down to two names - my heroine is going to be called either Merry or Cleo Cadash. I'll probably go with the first option.

Also after tommorow I'm going dark. I waited so long for DA:I - I don't want any spoilers.

Since I really want a warrior first, I think a Dalish warrior got bumped up from about 5th or 6th PT to 1st since only the Dalish and qunari make convincing female warriors for me now. I'll play at least one female dwarf, but probably not my first PT anymore. And I'm not sure it'll be Zhenya when I do, maybe a rogue instead.  I think it's going to take me a month or two (if ever) to reconcile that build with a sword-and-shield in-your-face tank warrior.

Well, I'll be sorry to see you go, a lot of people are going dark about now, but I can understand it. See you on the other side!

As for female warriors - I think humans look quite good too.

Right now I have 3 PTs in mind.

1.) female dwarf rogue archer (if it turns out archery is boring / not my style of play I'll re-spec her to dual dagger)

2.) female elf mage (I have never played a mage in DA series and apprentice to a keeper sounds like an interesting idea)

3.) human female warrior sword-and-shield (so far I only played two handed warriors - so that might be something new)

As for female dwarf warrior - perhaps you just need a huge badass armor to look awesome? (think full plate) Would that help?

See you on the other side!

I'll miss our dwarf talks - good thing is we'll able to talk about our experiences once we finish our PTs ;)

I am going to play a dwarf warrior first and an elf mage next. Don't know after that :D

I dunno, the armor might help make her more convincing, they really haven't given us any footage of one to make a judgement (except possibly a single 2 second glimpse of one in a trailer). Maybe if I get to see one kicking butt, female dwarves will be more believable as warriors.

To me, the female humans don't look like they've picked up anything heavier than a fork in years (while male mages apparently bench press small farm carts daily :o ). Yes, some people have wiry strength, but look at any line of female swimmers waiting for the signal to dive into a pool at an international competition (a sport that requires a lot of upper body strength) and what percentage even have average shoulder and arms, much less at the slender extreme end of the scale? When you consider that a fighter's going to be toting around at least 40 to 50 pounds of plate armor and helmet (and I'm probably underestimating any decent metal armor's weight), plus 15 to 20 pounds for a shield and 5 to 10 pounds for a sword... It's the comparison with real athletes in a sport generally using the same muscles that makes it jarring (though I admit I've had a lot of reservations about a non-mage human anyway until we know how firm their connections to the Chantry are so a female human warrior wasn't even on the radar for years probably :P ). I probably wouldn't be cranky if they'd given us one race with women who looked physically powerful/muscularly athletic.

Tentatively:

Derzka Lavellan - sword-and-shield champion

Ryumka Trevelyan - knight enchanter (or rift) - Cullen

Nevidima Lavellan - assassin - Solas

Volya Cadash - Tempest - Blackwall

?M Adaar - Rift - Dorian

Zhenya Cadash - sword-and-shield templar - Iron Bull

I'm still trying to rework my order. I originally had one of each race for my first four PTs, but pulling Zhenya and moving Derzka up completely threw me  off. I'm going to let the game decide who charms Derzka between Cullen, Solas, and Blackwall, and whoever would have been the second PT for that LI will change to Josephine.

Most people will be done with their first PTs probably before I see Skyhold in person  :P. I thought I'd have a lot of free time over the holidays, but I had a deadline move forward by three weeks with a cascading effect on other deadlines which now means a little free time in December and I may finish my first PT by summer. I'll be able to listen to everyone else, though (good thing I don't mind spoilers ;) ). I look forward to ya'll being back to tell stories.

I'll be going dark soon too. Can't wait to talk about all the dwarven goodness when the game is out though. Doesn't look like it will be the most dwarf heavy game, but I am sure there will be little pieces of lore we can all sift through together. :) and obviously I want to see your dwarven Quizzies and hear about them!

Well I think the part where we are criminals will be brought up more than the fact we are a dwarf unfortunatly :( but I plan to play my dwarf warrior as a gal who did not really have a choice but to be a smuggler, and the inquisition is her chance to get on the straight and narrow.

I'm not sure about the straight and narrow part as much as out of the smuggling business, but that kind of fits how I pictured my Zhenya. Muscle, but with strict limits the family had to respect. She'll still have a more fluid idea of right and wrong than some of the companions and advisers will approve of. Volya will just ask anyone who is offended to go look at an alienage and tell her that's not the kind of life she'd have faced otherwise (I'm really thinking of pairing her against either my DCommoner WS or one of my CElf WS). It's easy to be judgmental when you have choices. B)

I think individual members of the Carta are probably looked down on, but the Cadash family seems to control the lyrium trade in that area during a war where lyrium is an important resource. Its possible people react to that with more respect than like how Brosca was seen as a common thug.

to some but there will be others who will just think you are just some thug just because you were or still are a criminal.

Brosca sounded as if she were in a form of debt servitude to the Carta, so yes, common thug and casteless to boot. Presumably a Cadash is a family member with some status (and there's no negative status to being casteless on the surface). They've said pretty clearly that elves and qunari will face some real prejudice, but they've been vaguer on the dwarves' situation. At the very least, we'll run into a lot of people who stereotype us as either merchants or smiths, and others who are hostile which I think may be likely to include the official representatives of Orzammar (especially if Harrowmont rules).

Sure, and I invite them to say that to my Quizzie's face.

I think what I mean though is that since we won't be diving into dwarven stuff for the main plot, the dwarf specific content may be more about lyrium/red lyrium than just "criminal." We shall see!

Don't feel too defined by the Carta smuggling aspect. The Chantry has a vested interest in controlling the lyrium trade on the surface (to control templars and to make mages tranquil). The Chantry doesn't believe the Maker made the dwarves. Dwarves don't believe in the Chantry. I recognize their influence in Thedas, but not their authority. I need a better reason for my dwarf being a "criminal" than selling lyrium, pffft. We shall see. =p

House Cadash was warrior caste before they went to the surface so don't feel limited to rogue just because we're part of the Carta. Shale was a warrior, too. If she makes a cameo, we'll be fist bumping.

I thought they'd ruled out an appearance by Shale in either form? I would love to see her since she's always been one of my favorites (and so appropriate with a Cadash possibly in the game).

I have a feeling that our carta past is going to be throw in our face a lot. People will treat us like a criminal until we show them we aren't or maybe we will embrace that.

Ok so here is my plan for Merry Cadash (I assume Merry will be a true surfacer - meaning she was born on a surface like Varric)

1. Since Merry is surfacer she doesn't care about Orzammar and she doesn't consider herself a casteless.

2. Merry being a Cadash's daughter is essentially a spoiled little rascal (I plan for her to be very young). Her parents were in Carta since she was born and she doesn't know any other life.

3. Character wise she's either chaotic neutral or neutral good-ish.

4. She does believe in the Maker (if Harding can do it - Merry can't be worse)

5. Merry's a rogue and she loves to fight dirty. She'll use every possible advantage to defeat her opponent.

I wish we met Shale in DA:I (I love her so much! ) - but according to devs it won't happen :(

ooo nice character Mira, only reason I havn't gone more indepth with my character idea atm is because I want to know more about the character :) like if we sort of make it up along the way or is it all already preset, that is just something that we have to wait and see.

But my cadash is probably not going to care much about orzimar either, my warden was to worried about orzimar gonna make a dwarf who could care less but does care about regaining honor for her family. Not sure if she is a maker believer though or not probably something I'll come up with on the spot :)
