Yeah if you play Hard you will most likely need a tank. All those characters are rather squishy. And Cole would be your only melee character. (Unless you respec Varric)
I might respec Varric, but I'm one of those team Bianca person. I might just have daggers be my back up weapon. Spec all my rouges under the stealth tree.

I'm in a dilemma now. Everyone here knows that I've always been on the archer train, but I also want to play on the hard difficult. My problem is that I'm planning on having Varric, Cole, and Vivienne. Without a warrior on my team, I feel I may face a lot of problem. I know I want to play on hard on my first go around, and I want those party members. I don't really want to be a warrior, because I love bows so much, but I might have to in order to have those members and play on hard.
I don't think it's possible to play without a warrior on higher difficulties. Just use Varric and Cole in turns. Change them each mission.

Just like you, I want to have a fellow dwarf along with me. At least on my first play-through. I have been following these three companions the closet, so it's kind of hard to look at other companions, especially for my first-playthrough. I never played an warrior in the Dragon Age game.

I know the feeling! I want Varric, Sera (set her to daggers) and Dorian but then there's Cassandra, The Iron Bull' amazing voice work and Blackwall........so many choices, its slowly killing me; Paragons guide me xD

Yea funny thing is that I didn't think about this until last week. I might end up playing a sword and shield character, after I've at least tried to do it with my dream team. Crafting and a little bit of grinding may play in my favor.

Josey have won over my little dwarven's heart. I mean I'll have a warrior for a while, since I plan on scouting out the Hinderlands for a while. Cole will take a while to get… or not.
