First, make sure that everyone is equipped with their level armor, because that was my downfall at the beginning. Under character record, Cassandra tactics setting should have Challenge- Preferred, Grapping- Preferred, Lunge and Slash- Preferred, and Shield Wall- Preferred,
Evade is the skill name, and yes it's under Subterfuge.
Your mages should have Dispel and Barrier as preferred. I have Vivienne, so she mostly is going down the Knight Enchanter tree, but has fire and ice as side skills. I have Cole's behavior on defensing her, which he always step in when she's about to die. That saves me a headache. My character and Varric mostly stand on the upper ground, since it adds to the damage, but Varric occasion drop his traps before the enemies heads towards up, which slows them down, while Vivienne and I dish out some head damage, plus stealth is a lifesaver for us rogues, and Cole ability sometimes makes Vivienne invisible, which helps in our favor, because all the party members are invisible.
Your mages should focus on the spirit tree and their specialization. I know you can do way better than me, since I don't know have any tanks on my team, and I'm playing on hard. Oh also, it help you a lot when you're able to craft the masterwork things, because you can put "Fade-Touched Obsidian," in your mages armor, which put 3 guard on them. So having guard and barrier would increase their chances of living.
Bottom line:
Make sure all the warriors focus on like the first battle master skills, a lot of the Vanguard stuff, some on their weapon skills, and a lot in their specialization.
Mages focus on the spirit and specialization tree (especially knight enchanter tree, OP.)
Rogues should play around in the Subterfuge tree for a little, but have Cole focus a lot on his specialization tree. I have most of Varric Archery tree, since he really don't need stealth that much, but evade is a good one to have for him incase a enemy tries to run up on him while stealth is on cool down.
Craft craft craft, heavy defense means the winning of the battle.
First of all - thank you for all the tips! I was finally able to clean up the vault (Varric will be happy with the rewards but I'm disappointed). I found a nice bow - but I have to be lvl 16 to use it - this game clearly hates archers.
I re-speced Vivi focusing on spirit (first 3 talents and advanced version of barrier) and fire. I think that helped a lot. I added Sera some talents - looks a bit better. And I re-speced Blackwall giving him more guard talents - so he's useful now. Also I used inquisitor perk to buy 4 additional healing potions - so I have 12 healing potions for the team now.
I checked this "First, make sure that everyone is equipped with their level armor" - I don't see any difference. I normally use armors with the highest armor rating.
