Ok quick question - are specializations a level thing - meaning do I have to reach X level to unlock them or is it story mission thing? - if so which mission do I have to unlock them?

Once you get Skyhold,  :D .

*Panic attack* I'm level 11 I'm at Skyhold and there are no specializations!

I've read that you need to be level 10 to unlock them. You should find them on the war table when ready. (It will be called "Specializations for the Inquisitor.")

I'm going to check it out right now. I'll update this post in few mins.

Edit: You were right Gilsa! I found it! Thank you for help :)

Ok I have one more question (and sorry for off-topic).

Apparently every rogue spec requires some sort of stuff to unlock. Any idea where can I get these? Can I order them somewhere or do I have to find them myself? (which would be really lame cause I'm saving skill points for these and God knows how long it will take to gather these stuff)

Edit: Silly me. There are instructions how to get these stuff in a quest description :pinched:

Which spec works best for archer - artificier or tempest?

I'm still at The Highlands :L Doing all the quests there first before moving on haha I'm loving this game so ****ing much! :D Btw..I might make Iggie, so she's ready for my 2nd PT :) One question, are archers good/fun? Because Borrz is using daggers and I bloody love that deadly old dwarf haha Just want to keep the smuggler life by being a rogue y'know? Thanks for reading and sorry haha

There are times when I love playing archer and there are times I'm thinking about re-specing for dual dagger. So it's really hard to say.

Also bows are rather weak in damage department. And it's hard to get a good bow. So if you prefer direct action I think daggers are better choice.

I'm fond of shield maidens myself, but dwarven archers also seem to be a thing. And you could bond with Scout Harding :P

go with what you think Merri would want to do more of messing with gadgets or drink tonics, both can work for an archer from a gameplay perspective but artificer is definately better suited for archer and tempest for dagger rogue, remember some people actually react to your specilisation havn't ran into anyone thats to important but sometimes they will react.

As for bows vs daggers I find the opposite for me. I canot find good daggers for the life of me and have to make them bows on the otherhand I practically bleed bows and can do nearly as much damage with them as I do with daggers.

Well I checked the skills in each spec - and I agree with you Chibi - looks like artifcier is the best choice for archers.

My best bow Raider Longbow is 73 DPS (65 dmg)

My best dagger Bleeder of Souls is 208 DPS (61 dmg, +20 dmg vs living, +1 % bleed on hit, +13 % critical dmg bonus)

Before I pick spec I'm going to do an experiment and re-spec for dual daggers. I'll kill some random monsters to see if I find dual daggers more funny then bows.

Note that if I had cool bows I would probably be content with archery...

I think 8 or 10 for a tier two with tier one mats :) regardless crafting is the way to get the best gear in this game. the purples and blues are nice and usually have great slotted items but base crafted items tend to always be better. So I usually just steal mods off my blues and purples to put on my crafted gear :)

I dealing 4k damage on every enemy, even bosses sometimes with my bow. Long shot, Full Draw, Leaping shot, and Evade will be your best friend as an archer. Lets just say I wasn't the one that The Elder One should had toyed with. Tempest didn't do anything for me, but funny that's Sera class, and she fights with a bow. Duel-Wielded rogue should consider assassin of course.

just for people curious about different class and spec combos I have actualy come up with a rather helpful list that I'll post here :)

each specialisation can be classified as defensive, offessive, or balanced

For rogue,

offense, Assassin

your offensive based spec is Assassin and can work well with both daggers and archery, as the activates generally work around your weapon of choice, while they do have some nice defensive moves they are almost exclusivly geared toward being offense.

Defensive, Tempest

I know what your thinking but chibi tempest is all about doing tons of damage quickly!? Well you are right but tempest is more focused around using your tonics in the correct order according to what is going on, and they also have tonics that increase your defense to were even in nightmare you take significantly less damage in comparison to other rogues indeed you even taunt all the enemies around you and gain a huge defensive bonus. These rogues are ment to be in the thick of the fight and spitting in the enemies eyes. And thus daggers are more suited for this spec not saying an archer can find ways to make the spec work but dagger rogue will get the most use out of all of the abilities in the tree.

Balance, Artificer

Artificer has a great balance of offensive and defensive capabilities from setting up traps mines and even a handy get out of jail free card. Bows work best with this specilationion as it provides handy escapes and tools to keep the enemy at bay, but why is it balanced you say? Well you can really use any of the abilities defensivly or offensivly where as tempest tends to just make you inharently tanky artificer does not, cc damage and teleports are what make this class great, now a dagger rogue can make great use of artificer in used smart, like fallback plan on mines spike trap fire mine and ice mine you can isolate and deal large ammounts of damage to a single target if prepared properly.

Warrior.

Offense, reaver

This should be obvious all of reavers abilities are about augmenting your ability to just murder everything around you, you are a killing machine and all of it is there to make you scary and agressive. while sword and board can make great use of this spec twohanders is where you will shine as the extra damage they deal is significant and devour will allow you to swing that damage stick almost as fast as a duel wield rogue though do stalk up on regen pots and regen grenades your gonna need them if you wish to spam that attack.

Defensive, Champion

Champion allows you to control the battlefield and also make you nearly unkillable if applied correctly, sword and board give you great surviability but a twohander build is possible in combination with its focus ability which is a fantastic counter attack focus. Your main focus is to be the best tank you can be while holding enemies attention for as long as you can.

Balance, Templar

Templar gets a great array of offensive and defensive party buffing capabilities, you can buff everyones damage, deal damage and cc oponents especially mages. demons and magical creatures. Your focus on the battlefield should be that of buffing and targeting those of the magically inclined. A great speck for either sword and board or even twohanded warriors check it out you may find you enjoying making your whole party into a steam rolling engine of destruction.

Mage

Offensive, necromancer

Rift mage can make a case for being the offensive but really in my opinion necro really takes the cake here as thier whole focus is on dots dots and moar dots that then turn into minions to do well more damage and to boot its all spirit damage! the real stratagy here is that you either as your other abilities focus on creating more panic with fire which then creates more damage for your necromancy spells which are most likely stacked on that archer or assasin you want to burn down quickly so they explode and then cuase others to well explode. Or team it up with lightning or cold to add in more cround control while your necro dots kill your target.

defensive, Knight enchanter

All off knight enchanters abilities are designed around improving barriers or making you harder to hit or even find on the battlefield, even the spirit blade has a defensive mechanic where you can hit projectiles to prevent and in turn send damage back to your enemies, I havn't myself played much of this spec and really want to find a build I find fun, it is powerful just not one of my personal favorites.

Balance, Rift mage

This class can deal serious damage however its primary focus is actually crowd control, the damage is just an added benefit, really that is all there is to say about this speck you can pull enemies together, throw stone fits at them knock them all down lots of cool field control and perhaps one of the more fun specs I have played in the game and really simple to get into. Just point click and watch things happen.

Hope that really helps all of you in your character planning :) also I am always willing to help with character builds and ideas as well as theory crafting

Ok I went shopping... Although I didn't get schematics for a bow that would deal 128 dps... I made a Flanking Longbow (from Spiked Longbow schematics) 105 DPS (93 DMG) +12 % armor penetration +12 % flanking damage bonus heal 15 % of damage taken over 10 seconds. So that is better :)

Now I can add a guarded longbow grip to it - what would be better +16 Dex or +12 Cun?

As you propably guessed I'm pure blonde when it comes to crafting in any game.

Well if I remember currectly cunning is crit chance and dex is crit damage, and they both increase rogue damage (could be wrong on the damage part) But if you have a really high crit say around 20-25% naturally I would go with dex, if not then go with the cunning.

Thanks for the tips! :D Also....when I do start my Iggie PT after Borzz, who should I have in my party? Because Iggie will be ranged and I want another rogue but not sure who Sera or Varric? But what mage and warrior should I have also? Iggie may romance Sera but maybe Blackwall. Any suggestions? And sorry for all this :/

lemme find the assassin skill tree don't have it memorisde by heart yet but if I remember currectly hidden blades and mark of the assassin are two of the better activates for an archer as hidden blades is actually a ranged attack :o I know right it dosn't sound like it it but it is, you basically throw a dagger at someones face and show clones of you stab the enemy from a safe distance, mark of the assassin is nice because you basically increase your damage output but make it all into one giant attack by storing all the damage before reactivating it or letting the duration end.

also for hidden blades be sure to get its upgrade as soon as possible because it basically doubles its damage.

I am also at work at the moment so don't have everything in front of me T~T

ok after looking over the assassin tree as an archer rogue, all the abilities are good, in fact if you wanted to save points the only one I would suggest not taking is I was never here passive and the focus ability as the base inquisitor focus ability is just more damage, though if you have stealth and don't mind taking the extra point it taking I was never here is a good passive to link :)

this is how I would play my archer assassin, first start off with mark, then hidden blade, fallowed up by full draw and long shot, then depending on my distance from the enemy either useing explosive or eveasive shot if you closer evasive farther away explosive. you can then stack auto attacks for extra damage, also do not forget to take poisoned weapons its a great one point wonder for all rogues :)

there are several reasons why this is awsome, remember that archer passive that allows you to deal more damage to a target at full health? Well guess what!? if you use mark first all those attacks will benefit from that passive and when the mark triggers all that stored damage happends at once say good bye squishy and even a ton of damage to the more tanky things in the game :)

for you orzy I would say do you care more about story or having a party that can be bad ass?

in my experiance two rogue are fine as long as one of the rogues is a tempest as you can have a tempest sub for a twohanded warrior, as the best groups imo are actually 2 warriors one twohander one not, then one rogue dagger or archer dosn't matter for the high damage and then one mage for cc/aoe damage support.

Can I have both for Iggie? Hahaha With Borrz I got varric as my archer, got Cass and rocking Solas (until I get the other 2 mages :) But if Iggie....when I start it, I maybe the only archer and then have Blackwall (sword and shield) then maybe Bull and for mage either Vive or Dorian. Iggie might romance Sera or Blackwall but if I leave out Sera for example, I can still romance her? Thanks for reading :)

Sure you can, it just harder and will probably take longer, your going to have to get rep with her via judgments and skyhold interaction, now a group with bull dorian blackwall is perfectly fine as a rogue. the reason  have the two warrior rule is because of guard, in my experiance guard is far far far more valuable then barrier, i even run some of my groups without barrier. Why? well simple guard is way more accessible even if it has to be built up, if you combo the abilities correctly or use certain abilities you can get full guard fairly easy and even save it to the next location. forexable bull charge or bull rush don't remember the name of the ability off the top of my head is perhaps one of the most invaluable tools for any warrior, not so much for a sword and board bu for a twohanded warrior definately.

why? Well you get 2 guard for every target you hit with it and on larger enemies you can even hit a target TWICE! it is a cc and deals ok damage, and that is all on one button!
