Is Blackwall a good LI?

Short version: he's amazing

Long version:

So this happened (spoiler if you're planning to romance Blackwall):

Spoiler

Merry and Blackwall are now and official thing  :D  I have to say so far I love Blackwall romance. The first love scene was very romantic and had a great background music. And what's most important - kissing, including [kiss me] scene looks fantastic (take that Sera!). At this point I'm pretty sure Blackwall was made as a default romance for dwarven ladies   I love how he looks (giant dwarf!), how he acts and that he's a warden (I have soft spot for wardens) Good job, BW!

Blackwall is awesome both as a companion and as LI   Just re-spec him for double handed weapon. Since he's one of the most interesting characters I have no idea why BW didn't advertise him before the game release. We knew almost nothing about him.

Also welcome to the Dwarf Club!

Well, it would seem that the major cities of the Dwarves all have the prefix "Kal-" followed by a moniker, while the smaller towns and outposts are just one word.

City Examples: Kal-Sharok, Kal-Hirol, Kal-Barosh.

Town and outpost examples: Orzammar*, Amgarrak, Gwaren.

*Orzammar is the odd-one-out here, since it started out as an outpost but since grew to be the second largest Dwarven city.

But it would seem that "Kal-" followed by the name of the ruling family of the Thaig is a common naming policy of the Dwarves.

Well, I was talking about like Dwarven cities in general, as a fantasy schtick. Not DA Dwarves, but Dwarves as a fantasy concept. It's for my novel that I'm writing, but dammit I don't know how one makes names for places without it sounding like gibberish.

Have you developed a language for them? What do they revere? How is their culture? All of it would play important factors in how they name their cities.

For instance, DA Dwarves revere family and tradition, hence the tendency to name their thaigs after the ruling/founding families.

Tolkien has great city names and lots of backgrounds for them; but also the book The Dwarves :) With Tolkien, some names are:
Belegost, Glittering Caves, Moria, Nargothrond, Nogrod and there's some good background info on them :)

Hmm...now I am interested to see how Astrid would fair romancing Blackwall. (he does seem close to a tall dwarf. ) But her personality would better fit with Sera...

Bah, just have to see as I play her.

All of Tolkien's work that is around middle-earth has been my favorite when growing up and I'm only 20 but I can never get bored of The Children of Hurin, The Similarion, The Hobbit and of course Lord of The Rings :P I'm in my geek mode and I'm getting way into this discussion haha But I'm never out of my geek mode....my poor work friends haha Roll on King Dain! :D

I witnessed a banter between Varric and Solas that made me think. Solas basically told Varric that he should at least try to help Orzammar and Kal-Sharok establish a relationship, because it will end with him(Varric). I know this game may not dabble deep into Orzammar and Kal-Sharok, but I hope a plot comes up with patching that relationship, or either siding with one or the other.

Anyone here have any experience crafting Dwarven city names? It's for my story (not DA, original) and I always have trouble with such things.

I tend to google for dwarven random name generators. Some sites have names/surnames and some have locations. I wish I could help more, but it's what I fall back on most of the time.

When your friend comes over and knocks his ******* drink by PS4!!!!! So, he's paid half for a new PS4 (don't mind that's it half paid) but poor Wulf! He went so far :'( Thank the maker that I have a few days off work! Wulf needs to be remade :( Warrior or rouge? Swear being welsh is a curse haha

Oof, sorry. I saw your new pictures of Wulf and Cassandra. Loved it. I really, really like Cassandra a lot. She is just kick-ass. The fact that she owns up to her mistakes makes her a stronger character.

Did you keep track of the sliders?  How did you recreate him so closely?  I've never been able to recreate a character yet.  (That's why Graeme doesn't have tattoos.  I realized I forgot them, but liked him so much that I was afraid I'd never get him right again.)

I took screenshots of my sliders. And just so I wouldn't have to alt-tab back and forth between the screenshots and the CC, I wrote down approximate positions the sliders were in. (Example: Face 1, skin tone 7, hair 9, etc.) And then I made a bunch of square boxes and pinpointed the rough idea of the other positions. It's pretty tedious, but worth doing if you've got a character you're going to love and will want to replay again later on. They really should have implemented "face codes" the same way Mass Effect did so we can store that precious info for recreating our characters.

Like I said, after reading the backstory of how the Cadash family is this badass carta family, I wanted to make her really represent that. So yeah, she's going to sit on the Inquisitor throne like a boss. :P

*high five* That's how I approached it. No apologies for being a carta member. That's life. Varric doesn't make apologies for being a surface dwarf or a member of the merchant guild. He complains about them, sure, but he's not apologetic about who he is. I like that.

Is Blackwall a good LI?

Let me use an analogy from DA:O. Alistair and Zevran had different romance styles. Alistair came with some baggage and some drama, depending on how events played out. Zevran did not have any surprises -- loyal all the way to the end. (I saw people say they preferred Zevran for that reason alone.) I would say the Blackwall romance veers closer to the Alistair spectrum, if that makes sense. It is up to you which path you're looking for. =D

Sooooooooo....... I tried making Dagna......

Blackwall is good if you love angst or drama, and me I love drama, so he was perfect. He's intense and sweet and a lot of fun.

Also Astrid looks a lot like my Hella, so I'm a bit biased, but I think she's gorgeoussss

Can I just take a moment to appreciate this thread?  It's just filled with awesome people.  I don't see any complaining about "agendas" or "ugly female companions" or "the game is so bad that it's fraud".

Just a bunch of people who enjoy the game for what it is and don't care how you play.  Want to romance a dude with a dude?  Go for it.  Want to romance a gal with a dude?  Go for it.  And everyone wants to hear/see each other's Inquisitors and stories.  It's a breath of fresh air and why I'm hanging out in this thread much more lately.

Dwarf lovers, much like Thedosian dwarves, are pretty damned awesome.  Keep it up, fellow dwarf lovers!

Why can't the Elf threads be like this? :(

Oh, and Tishina, here are those promised pictures of my Dorian/Qunari romance. They really aren't, as you'll see, a huge deal, but he was clipping through in a lot of scenes and it distracted me. Haven't had any problems with the dwarf though, and I finally triggered this scene with him today.

So the first picture is how much his face clipped/buried through his shirt, and the second is how weird Dorian's eyes look because he's looking up at Adaar the whole scene.

IMO, they aren't a dealbreaker to not play Dorian/Adaar, but there you go. I also didn't find much in the way of Qunari specific content that I was hoping for there, but I didn't finish the game with the romance, maybe there's more references to it there?

Because you have a lot of lore and in-story to disagree on.  Stuff like the Dalish vs City elves. Maybe once we get more information on the Kal-Sharok, people will either pull away from them,(Orzammar) or like their way of life.

Yeah, basically. All the other races have such more drama, but I've seen Bhelen/Harrowmont arguments spiral out on occasion, so I'm sure that if they were given more content, we'd have more antagonism.

...I'd pay that price though. We could all run off to a quiet drama free dwarf group and talk about all the content we'd get in this hypothetical beautiful, dwarfy future.

Once we all get on the same page, we can discuss what dwarves are like in Tevinter. Seem like they have a different culture than what we are seeing down in the south. The dwarves have strong magic resistance, so I could see how their presence in Tevinter could be hold high or even feared.

We could also discuss what we learned at the Hissing Wastes about the surface tradition dwarves.

Oh, here's more pictures of Olim Cadash, Lyrium Salesman and Former Male Model. ("The truth is, male models have been assassinating rogue Carta agents for over 200 years now"...)

It worked out so well, he always looks kind of pouty and posing, even if he's defending his boyfriend's honor (he was meant for Cass, but sigh. Dorian. I just love him so much.):
