Hola my dwarven brethren and sistren! I need some advice...

I'm playing DAO again for nostalgia's sake, and I'm stuck on who to romance. My guy is a DC, a thug with a noble heart, who is altogether quiet and thoughtful and occasionally sassy underneath his meathead exterior, lol.

I originally designed him with Leliana in mind, as kind of a redemption story. Throughout the DC origin, if you're male you're constantly told that no woman will ever want you because you can't give her anything but "casteless brats that nobody wants", and if you're female you're basically told that you're only worth what's between your legs. My Brosca's a good person underneath his tough exterior (as much as a darkspawn-slaying übermensch can be, anyway). So I thought with (unhardened) Leliana struggling to be a better person, it could be a nice little arc... I actually started this playthrough once buuut then my PC imploded. And I also have this problem where... I don't especially like Leliana? Lol, I mean I don't hate her, but yeah.

On the other hand, I prefer Morrigan as a character and I think she and my DC have great chemistry! But I always liked the tender moment when she says she didn't think it was possible to experience genuine friendship with a man, that they could only be lovers, and I hate to ruin that. And even though he's a dwarf I can still totally see him patting her on the head and sighing when she votes in favor of the "kill ALL the kittens!!1" choices. And even though I think they'd be adorable, I can't think of a good reason for him to like her beyond me as a player liking her. I mean, dude's trying to be a decent guy. Maybe he sees the heart of gold hidden deep, deeeeep within. Like the Deep Roads. On the other hand,

Spoiler

Zevran's off the table because - even though he's my faaaavorite! - he was my most recent playthrough's romance.

Logically I know I could make this decision by myself lmao but I trust the opinions of the dwarf thread.

My gut?  Go with Morrigan.  I've only ever done her romance far enough to get the achievement, but I think she's a much better character who is better developed and more plot relevant.  Plus, I think your DC sounds like the type who might bring something good out of Morrigan.

Yay! For what its worth, I think his romance so far is amazing, but the reason I asked if you had gotten the amulet scene is that before it, there's a casualness to it that can be deceptive. It's not that Dorian doesn't want a deep relationship---he desperately does, but he's terrified of rejection and unused to genuine affection so he tries to play it cool. But he's such a lovable dork and ajsjsjjswkjsjsjs Dorian, I love him sooooo much, lmao.

Go with whichever is fitting for you right now.

Though now I wonder if a romance Leliana WS with a DR baby results in any extra dialogue in DAI from one of them since they're both at Skyhold together. Even if Lel is glad Morrigan saved his life, I'm not sure she'd be thrilled to have her show back up with her lover's child in tow... :P

I think I just needed someone to tell me to romance Morrigan - so, thank you! ;)

Plus, it kinda works 'cause in the DC origin there's a merchant who tells you that you can get married on the surface... and then getting the ring from Morrigan and listening to Ariane talk about the significance of it in human culture... and then

I really like how they've aged her in game, especially with a romanced Warden who followed her through the Eluvian. ;)

That happened to a lot people now. Hopefully Bioware get all these bugs cleaned up, which sadly may add new bugs.

All right, I can be cool with that. I know that I'll replay my main character again at some point once I understand the game better, where my favorite schematics are, etc. Hopefully they've patched by then. Thanks for answering.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Blackwall, Josephine, and Cass romances, is anyone romancing IB, Sera, or Dorian with a dwarf (actually, I'm pretty certain I've seen a dwarf-Dorian in here now that I think about it)? I was curious about how those are playing out for people. I notice on a Blackwall romance, they mostly deal with the height difference by suddenly making them much closer in height :P, though from the dwarf specific conversation between them, I think he was written, partly, with female dwarves in mind.

Oh, I DESPERATELY wanna see Sera's romance with a dwarf, because she seems to have the most race-specific content out of anyone.

My date to actually start playing on my own computer keeps moving off into the fog (next weekend now), so Zhenya's PT is probably going to be next summer at the earliest :P  However, I'll be able to play quite a bit on my daughter's computer this week, so I have to decide whether to keep playing the elf whose lovely black hair transmuted into muddy brown after the prologue, among other things, but actually get through some of the content, or start over and spend hours getting back to the same point  :P

My Warden went with her in Witch Hunt, but the gamed seemed convince that he'd apparently ditched her and the kid? Well, someone's Warden is getting booked on the Jeremy Kyle Show to get a major b****cking from him, I can tell you!

Was anyone else disappointed with the lack of Dwarves in the game? I was saying over on the Solas thread that Inquisition was heavy Elf-centric in pretty much every single plotline and major plot point and the Dwarves seemed to have the least amount of time dedicated to them, even less than the Qunari?

I was kind of hoping that we'd see at least one surface dwarf settlement or something, since we've never seen one of those, unless you count the large dwarven presence in Kirkwall from the Mechant Guild and the Carta?

I'm not sure which way it's centered. I thought there was really only one elf-connected plot line, unless you're romancing Solas, I haven't seen much elf-related dialogue (in fact there are a couple of massively glaring holes). Blackwall's romance seems to have a lot of dwarf/Carta related comments; though I don't know how the others do, and we do have Scout Harding. Doesn't at least one quest chain go into a Carta held area too? Yes, a surface dwarf settlement would be interesting, but aren't most surface dwarves dispersed through human communities?

Did you maybe get one of the glitched world states on the first day or two? I've also heard someone say that Morrigan mentions the relationship incorrectly at one point, then normally through the rest of the game, apparently a dialogue bug.

So far there haven't been any romance race specific conversations with Dorian. I did love his dwarf specific conversation that every Cadash gets though.

Well, I meant the game is rather Elf-centric since you have Briala involved in the Orlais plot, Fiona in the Mage-Templar plot, Solas and Sera as companions with vastly different ideas of what being elven means (or doesn't mean), the Dales and Dalish appearing, elven artefacts like the Eluvian, the Orb and the wards you can find to shore up the Veil, the temple of Mythal...

Compared to that, there's only a few places that are dwarven, a couple abandoned thaigs and one now occupied by the Carta, although I guess that the lore does mention that dwarves are one of the least large populations on the surface by far, so it makes sense we don't bump into them more often since we often end up in far-flung places.

I think I must have had that, since everything else about my Warden seemed find aside from the lack of comment on the active romance. Same thing happened with my Hawke, who was referred to as female in post-Adamant party banter despite being male, even though the conversation did get their romance correct.

Ah, OK. Well, there have been a lot of story threads leading toward both elf and mage rebellions (and at least two very separate populations of elves on the surface and a very long elven history on the surface). The majority of dwarves, and the main division between them, are underground which they may have thought a dwarf Inquisitor would probably feel little connection to. I also think it's harder to write dwarves into the Fade, etc., since they don't normally have any connection to it.

I was thinking more in terms of Inquisitor race-specific dialogue and family/clan/merc force content, I guess. I wonder if maybe the qunari come up shortest in both respects since he or she isn't actually qunari so they have even less attachment to any described culture than even a surface dwarf, and they're the only survivor of their mercenary force (I think).

The Hissing Wastes has dwarven lore. The way that I feel, If I'm playing as dwarf inquisitor, then the game is dwarven centric. My dwarf can close the rifts, he's the only one doing something to help, along with his crew/army of course. He fixing big political and war problems. And many more story plot situations that I won't spoiler for anyone.  ;)  People will remember the dwarf that saved Thedas from demons and the dwarf that saved Thedas from the blight, well at least in my story.

The story will always follow the protagonist. He/She will always be the centric of the story.

I'm romancing Josephine or Cassandra with Edric Cadash. Haven't decided yet. It will hinge if I make Cassandra into my main tank.

Interestingly, without spoiling much, if I where making a female dwarf I think Blackwall (given his past) would be an interesting LI due to the Dwarven Inquisitor's background.

Interesting! Keep us updated. ;)

I know the guidebook said that Sera's approval boosts are greatest for qunari, equal for dwarves and humans, and smallest for elves.
