I tend to favor the other races in Dragon Age, but I have to admit the Dalish in DA 2 got on my nerves with their constant threats whenever you walked through the camp.

This is the only time I approve racism...When humans come together to make fun or elves and dwarves lol Yes, we need racist remarks! Player choice.

Don't.
The topic's a lot more complicated than something that you can "grow skin and ignore".
To answer the OP, the possibility of some racist actions or dialogue from a PC would be interesting. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it gets them punched or attacked. Or if the person that they insult ends up becoming their enemy.
Action and Consequence.
And I don't mind this. By all means have the NPC show disapproval because it's jarring for my Hawke's to be a cold enough bastard to sell Fenris back after 7 years or to kill Merrill despite being lovers and yet is pretty much the epitome of family values that shows respect to others even when insulted to his/her face despite killing people for far less severe reasons.
Oh and to the guy who mentioned making derogatory statements against the Qunari, I never really found any. Mostly you insult their religion, not them. A good example of actual race bigotry of this is Javaris who will make very scathing comments about the 'ox-men' and sucking their own powder. Hell Carver's allowed to make slurs - During the Wayward Son quest if you let Arvaraad kill Ketojan every party member disapproves and while Varric insults their religion (says 'you can't trust a zealot') Carver will actually lose his cool more than the others and, despite his dislike of Mages, will call the Arvaraad a 'Horn Head' for killing Ketojan despite the fact that pissing off the group of oxmen is a very bad idea.
So yeah, Carver can make slurs but Hawke can't? The PC is frequently allowed to commit wanton murder, aid crime, leave cities to die, make deals with demons etc etc but making a comment on knife ears is too much? It's jarring because just about every party member has a chip on somebody else. Hell one of the nicer NPC's in Origins, the boat man in the Circle Tower, is one of the few with a rather liberal mindset on Mages and implied to be friendly with them. And yet he also calls Elves knife ears without a hint of irony. In the world of Thedas being a racist seems to be the norm and yet your character seems to be immune to it for whatever reason.
