So when I started mass effect 1, I decided that I actually wanted to roleplay my Shepard and not just pick choices I myself would like. To that end, I decided to treat him as a no nonsense Commisar (or commander) who would let nothing stand in his way. I loved Wrex, but when he rebelled, despite my deep desire, I stuck to the script and dropped a slug into him.... Having said that, I played as a sentinel, and now with the new changes, what class would you say would best suit the Commissar character of mine? I know the best answer is probably soldier, but I do NOT want to play a basic solider, so beyond soldier, which class would be best for such a no nonesense, V.I.P., self important, duty-fanatic Commisar shephard who demands loyalty, efficiancy, and success no matter what the cost? For Alexandre Shepard, the mission is the ONLY thing. (If it helps, he takes a renegade stance, because he's so callous and driven)
I'm most likely thinking about sticking with the sentinel because the armour seems like something a self-important commisar would want, or an Engineer, because of that controllable drone and how that suits his mastery of efficiency and demand for loyalty.... anyway, I'm looking for your two cents!
Thanks!

Best class for a callous 'Commisar' Shepard

Soldier is the most appropriate class. Engineers and sentinels are bad at killing people with standard weapons, which a brutal commisar would be the master of.

Heh, I have played in a similar way through ME1 just to see the moments I'd personally handle in a more paragon way turn out the renegade way. In ME1 I chose infiltrator to be the most fitting class, though at this very moment I can't think of a specific reason why anymore.

Infiltrator or Vanguard, maybe? Vanguards drive right to the issue at hand, getting into the fray - infiltrators stand back and snipe or use their pistol, kind of officer-like. Both have decent weapon powers.

Vanguard, theyre tough, aggressive and the first to charge in to battle

I think of the Vanguard as being a more in-your-face, no nonsense type. They are billed as excelling at the close up type of combat, which IMHO seems to fit your character description. I played a vanguard in ME1 going renegade with the ruthless background.

Can't agree with Vanguard for the simple reason 'vanguard' means being at the front lines for a cause.
"I am the vanguard of your destruction" - it may be said by Sovereign, but he's there for a cause.
This kind of character to me would be for a large part to enjoy gratuitous killing... for sport, not for a cause.
But hey, that's me ;p

Thanks for all the input so far! I just wanted to clarify one thing; I imagine him as more of the pistol in-hand officer type, as stated down below. So assault rifles and rocket launchers....Not his gig, per se. If anyone is familiar with the image and nature of the Commissar unit in Warhammer 40,000 lore, I sort of took my ideas from that. So, very formal, no wise cracks-- straight to the business at hand, with 0 tolerance...for failure and subordination. And someone who throws his soldiers into battle first, callously, with no remorse whatsoever.
So the Vanguard, I'm not sure about-- BUT I've heard some compelling ideas for it.
Anyway just wanted to clarify my ideas-- Keep YOUR ideas coming!

In that case sentinel. Theyre pistol wielders and they seem more of a commander than an engineer or adept. Plus a commander would be well rounded like a sentinel and more protected like with tech armor

vanguard for the most brutality. charge and shotgun in the face. would be cool if that was a renegade interupt for vanguards
