We've not been faced with that decision yet so I don't know what I'd do, however I did choose Amaranthine over Vigil's Keep thus lost Velanna, Sigrun and Oghren (who apparently died in-game, but his conclusion said otherwise).

Interesting strategy, losing your military base and most of the Grey Wardens.  Some leaders understand the value of sacrifice, others do not, apparently.  Pragmatism doesn't automatically mean that a person is overly aggressive or ignorant, but I doubt I can convince you of anything based on the tone of your initial statement.

I don't think that companions will be close minded about their individual philosophies during the entire game. BioWare's marketing for Inquisition has thrown this "end of the world" vibe for quite some time now, and well... end of the world tends to make people question their priorities.. just saying.

Plus, there is also this "leader of leaders" thing, and the Inquisitor would be a very poor leader if they weren't able to inspire their peers to a cause.

So, if the idea they've been trying to sell is relatively accurate, I think we'll have opportunities to persuade the companions. If not... then I hope the devs reincluded the bash option or the healing skill back from Neverwinter Nights.

So recently, I had the idea to play my first character as kind of an analogue to Bane from Nolan's Batman films: a driven, uncompromising zealot who seeks to close the Breach at all costs and tolerates no dissent. I figured I'd play a warrior, both because this Inquisitor enjoys bashing the life out of things, and because I went Mage all the time in DAO.

But then I started worrying about the necessity of a rogue in the party to do certain things. Varric, Cole and Sera all seem like they'd have issues with that sort of Inquisitor, which potentially leaves me with no rogue at all. Unless one of them is like Dog and never picks up and leaves, which I doubt though.

If any of you are foreseeing a similar kind of bind, how are you planning on dealing with it?

By not putting myself in that bind in the first place (I don't like "the ends to justify all means" characters - yes, some things can be justified but say for example genocide can - almost - never be justified (the only excemption I can come up with would be a virus infected population, with something that could probably spread to other people/races and even then it is extreme and things like quarantine etc. should be tried first))

Secondly: I don't play warriors normally (I try them - I have tried in every DA-Game, but I only played DA:O fully with a non-mage character (noble female rogue dwarf)...I always stick to mages (sorry, why would anyone want to be ordinary, if you could have magic at your disposal? - even more so as the lore doesn't state that a mage could not learn to fight like a warrior/rogue (it's just the games that restrict us in this!), while the reverse is not possible!)

greetings LAX

ps: I will probably face a similar problem though: Characters leaving because I favour helping the mages over the templars (Cassy, Leliana, Cullen etc.) (not that I want to wipe the templars out, I just want them to stop the oppression, they should stick to protecting the mundane populations, not imprisoning people for being born differently!), not liking the chantry-remnants much (and while I don't necessarily want them killed of either - my characters tend to want to help everyone - I will not risk everything for them close minded idiots!)...again Cassy, Leliana, Cullen, Josephine and even Vivienne might not like that very much ;)

Okay.. I know this is OT, but I have to know this... Have ANY of the Stannis fanboys even read the books? Or where they just easily bought with some cheap theatricals?

I'd go as far to say 90% of people who would consider themselves Stannis fanboys have read the books.  Considering D&D don't like Stannis and have such written him horribly in the TV show.  I don't know any Unsullied who likes Stannis.

Hopefully we can break Cole. A demon pet is always good to have to do our bidding.

I don't think you'll find many Stannis fans who haven't read the books tbh. In the show, he's a completely different character with very few of the core values that make up book-Stannis. On topic, I might just bring Sera along purely to get into arguments with her. Should be fun  :P

Why does everybody want to play as an ignorant, overly aggressive ass-hat instead of just be good and help the people of Thedas lol.

Why does everybody feel the need to impose their personal play-style on other people lol.

You don't need every class in your party, you don't even need a full party. There are no problems to be had.

Because people like to do what they enjoy, not everybody cares about people in Thedas.

I was worrying about this the other day. My first Inquisitor isn't going to care that much about helping people.

I think I will just have to switch around the rogues allot and try and be at least somewhat friendly towards them, hopefully that will offset the rivalry like it did in previous games.

I find it really difficult to handle there being a chest or a door that I cannot open.

Which is why there should be braking mechanics, no other class has any similar utility outside combat, and rogues shouldn't be an exception being locksmith bots.

I don't think playing "evil" will make all the rogues leave just because they all happen to seem like good guys this time around. We could get away with being evil in Origins without anyone leaving as long as we were careful about who we took with us on certain missions. Once we play the game we'll probably get to know them better and know what makes them tick. Plus, I think even though they may disagree or even dislike you, they care more about the big picture than your decisions leading up to it, especially Varric. Not so sure about Sera, she might be the one to be careful about if you don't want any crisis points.

The leaks did say that you can push Cole to embrace his inner demon so you could have an eviler Cole to hang out.

None of the companions are 'evil' anyhow, it can be argued that all of them are good people who would disagree with too hard of an Inquisitor (Varric, Sera, Cole, Blackwall and Dorian especially). I can only imagine Vivienne supporting the occasional ruthless decision, all the others I can imagine being vocal about not being.

Considering they've added the mechanic for mages to rebuild bridges and warriors can bash in some doors now, I don't see any problem with the whole "only rogues can open locks" thing.  I see no reason why rogues should be diminished by allowing chests to be opened without them...
