You will try, but fail miserably.

* Looks at the dumbbells, which have not been used for 3 years. *

I mean, we can talk about it. Rock, paper, scissors?

*looks at own dumbbells, hiding under the bed gathering dust for about thirty ice ages*

We could, uh... hug it out over cupcakes?

Every game BioWare has done has been different. You should have NEVER expected the game to be like DA2.

I will NEVER understand why people can't get this. I will roll a male character for Dorian. I will roll a female character for Sera.

I plan to try them all. Its called replayability.

not sure why you quoted me and I never expect the game to be like da2. I said I wish to mod the game like DAO like with gay Alistair mod.

I'm just sad that all the knight in shining armor and Prince Charming type LI have been straight. Alistair, Sebastian, and Cullen. It would have been nice to finally have one playing for another team. I'll probably get over by the time the game is released, but my interest in engaging in the romance content is pretty low atm.

Then I hope you at least get Blackwall as an option too. He seems to fit the knight-in-shining-armor archetype. Personally, I appreciate that the same-sex options we have so far include the roguish, renegade mage types like Anders and Dorian. If the next gay/bi male LI happened to be a knight, however, I certainly won't object.

Yeah, none of the male LI's have inspired me and since I always play a hetero character, Sera or Dorian isn't an option.

That doesn't mean I am set not to enjoy them. I don't know their "character" and although Solas is completely unappealing to me, he may end up being my favorite. Who knows, but I am willing to give him a shot if he is a LI. I wouldn't discount anyone without proper knowledge.

I'm sort of saddened my dwarf gals won't be getting to tank for Varric, if-ya-know-what-I-mean, but I'm not completely crushed. Or even mostly crushed.

I like the looks of most of them so far. I'm really hoping for Blackwall, since he looks like my husband+20 years. If he's not an option, I'm pretty sure I'll manage. Or go solo on that playthrough.

Either way, I'm pretty jazzed about pretty much everyone. I really do need to know more about personalities and stories before I decide if I actually love them, but so far, so good!

I confess I'm slightly disappointed in general. I was really hoping to finally have a Male Dalish Elf protagonist hook up with a nice Female Elf like Sera for instance at long last, but now that continues to remain to be seen.

There's always going to be a fraction of the fanbase that's going to be disappointed when they find out what the love interests are, and it's simply because the array of different traits, appearances, personalities and mannerisms that individuals find attractive in others can't possibly be summed up in 3-8 characters. Add that together with the fact that the writers don't want to write the same character archetypes in every game if they can manage it, and instead create meaningful variation in characters (and by extension love interests), then it's inevitable that there are going to be a few love interests that miss the mark for certain players, and for certain unlucky players, all of them will. What really irks me is when players feel so entitled to a romance that appeals to them personally, that they say the writers and concept artists have done a poor job or even accuse the writers and fellow fans of some kind of anti-straight male conspiracy.

What of my personal opinions of the love interests in DAI? I am very excited about the male options. I'll likely be disappointed when the final love interests are revealed, I'm interested in both Blackwall and Solas but I'm fairly certain only one of them will be romancable. I was also disappointed when I discovered Cassandra was straight only. I'm bisexual, but none of the f/f options in past Bioware games have ever been appealing enough for me to pursue them. I'll still roll a male inquisitor to romance her, but I was interested in the f/f dichotomy between her an a female inquisitor (even with all the same dialogue, f/f, m/f, f/m and m/m game romances all have a different feel for me personally, if you can understand that). I'm apathetic about Josephine and Sera, though if Vivienne turns out to be a bisexual she might just win me over, it all depends on how flirt dialogues play out.

Of all the ones that have been announced, Josephine Montilyet seems quite good and promising. This is coming from someone who is not into romances.

Josephine squashes all of my disappointment.

Now, if we can get her to let loose of her hair, I don't care if the final boss turns out to be Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse, I'll be satisfied.

I don't think that will happen, there was a tweet saying that at one point before. So just thought I'd give you heads up.

I think that is because Frostbite just does not like long hair (and eye color as well given the videos we have seen) or because of clipping issues or Bioware just does not like feminine women with long hair.

Wouldn't say this is the first time the roster of LI's have made me pause with a hint of disappointment, but I always enjoyed the character much more while playing the game. So while I can say I too am a little underwhelmed with the choices, I won't carve it into stone yet.

We finally have a female warrior, and that female warrior also happens to be Cassandra. Disappointed? Absolutely not.

Both Sera and Josephine are also awesome. This may be my favourite cast of characters in Dragon Age, and that extends to the potential romance options.

I feel spoilt for choice, personally. All of the options for a female character interest me in one way or another, and I can think of combinations that would make for interesting stories - e.g Sera/Dalish, Cullen/mage, Iron Bull/Qunari.

Even Dorian and Cassandra have me interested to play a male at least once each.

I wasn't happy with the romance options in DAII. I just shrugged and moved on. You'll be all fine.

Now it's my turn to be pleased, I feel Cassandra will please me a lot, the same for Sera. Don't know for Josephine.

But of course, if Vivienne is romanceable, there, the dream will come true. But I'm not mad enough to squeeze that much over her, leading to a big disappointment if she isn't an LI. So, I'll be fine whether she is romanceable or not.

I think that they've done a really nice job with diversity in the LI's this time around.

Ladies:

Short haired, brunette human warrior who's a strong leader in the Inquisition

Short(ish) haired, blonde elf rogue who's a bit of a brat and a leader in the underworld

Long haired, dark-complected human diplomat who's fiercely devoted to the Inquisition and a strong political negotiator

Gents:

Blond human warrior who's a military leader and has shown some polarizing views on the mage/templar conflict

Brunette, dark-complected human mage who's challenging the Tevinter norms for magisters

HUGE scruffy qunari warrior with an eyepatch who's a hedonistic mercenary leader and also a Qunari spy

(and almost certainly) Bald, introverted, erudite elf mage who's a recluse and Fade expert

I mean, the LI's are all over the place in terms of personalities.  Sure, not every PC can romance every one of them, but there's more than one option for every PC and those options are pretty different from each other.

I think they did a bang up job this time around and I commend them.  Great job on the LI's imo.

I am, like I have been complaining in other threads. Only one straights female LI which is a she-hulk with a sweaty near-buzz cut. How nice.

Didn't wade through all pages of posts, just thought I'd dart in and post a few thoughts.

I'm not really concerned about gender/orientation.  If I find a character interesting, I'll make a female or male to romance him.  I've romanced Fenris, Leliana, Isabela and Merrill on both genders (I prefer to play a female protagonist since I can relate to that better, but have played males), but if a PC requires a certain gender I will play that.  Alistair is my favorite Bioware romance so far, and he's closed to males in an unmodded game.  I find strength of personality, well written and engaging characters and compatibility to my own personal views to be a must in my connection to a character in a game (romance or just friendly).  Physical appearance and gender are secondary for me.  Playing a male who romanced Fenris opened my eyes up to new aspects of the character, the same with Isabela on a fem Hawke.

Some I just couldn't bring myself to complete the romance or even start it.  While I love Morrigan and Zevran neither appeal to me personality wise for a relationship.  And I hated Anders.  Sebastian, while cute and fun to flirt with was boring.

I'm hoping the romances in DAI will be interesting and fun and--Maker willing--less freaking psycho than the ones in DA2.

Alistair is a good buddy. Why wud anyone want him to be g*y? I guess the days of dude buddies are over. Everytime u want to be friendly with a guy, they wud think ur hitting on them.

Times have changed. Games have changed. You have been conditioned by pop culture to think that.

Whoever that pretty avatar is certainly disagrees with ur statement. Hey BW can we have a woman like this?

There will be Josephine and most likely also Vivienne as options for straight male character ^^;

Puuuurrrty sure that it is the entirety of the world Cassandra is concerned with saving. Especially considering that the Chantry fragments and disintegrate at the start of the game, before we become the Inquisitor..

You didnt get my point. I was being sarcastic. Again, how dare she wants to save the organization that she has been tied with for so long. She shud start worshipping that elder one to get respect of the fanbase.

For me, my first character is going to be middle aged(40) Mage who believes in Andraste and the Maker but is incredibly bitter about being forced to get locked up in the Circle. He hides it behind affable charm. He hates Templars and Seekers and The Chantry as an organization.

Yet when it comes to Cassandra, he doesn't give a crap about her beliefs, as long as she respects his in turn. And we've been given no indication that she wouldn't.

Good for you. May you wallow in ur hatred for the chantry.

No. Once we had an actual romance thread, but it was locked. This is the price you pay!
