I mean what do you guys want in a LI to be exact? Darkness, kindness, innocence, maturity, strength of will, someone who agrees mostly with you, Romantic, pragmatic, tragic, optimistic, tough, dainty, alluring, hard boiled, grizzled, mysterious, honest, angry, happy. What are the traits we look for in a Bioware LI?
For me, it kind of varies. I don't necessarily know until I see or until I'm around them to get a good opinion of what I'm looking for. Every Bioware game I seem to be attracted to different traits. I go in usually having a initial idea of what I want, but it can change while I'm playing. I seem to find different good things about different LI's. Aveline (even though she wasn't a LI) was someone I took a liking to at first, but later on I started to find her rather annoying. I liked her passion for those she cares for, but that stick up her butt didn't do her any favors from my POV.
I like the women that have attitude, but are still rather vulnerable. A woman who shows confidence, and independence, but who also doesn't isolate themselves from a potential relationship. A cliche I guess you can say, but that's really what gets me more than anything I think. There are other factors, but those are where I start off I guess.

I seriously just want someone to explain why they all have such intense eye make-up. What is with the raccoon eyes, people? They'd all be so much prettier without all that black soot on their faces.

When I play a game like this, I want to BE the main character so I almost always play as a heterosexual human male...I even go so far as go with my real life hair color (black hair). I did try playing as an elf, a dwarf, and a woman in DAO but I ended up losing interest very quickly since it felt like I was watching a movie or something rather than being in the game. One of the biggest drawbacks, for me, of a game like Witcher 2 is the fact that you have to play as a preset character. Playing within the aforementioned "restraints" certainly didn't stop me from doing dozens of playthroughs in DAO. There are a lot of ways you can make the playthroughs different - Shield Warrior, dual wielding warrior (although not an option I hear in DAI), 2Handed warrior, rogue, archer, mage, arcane warrior, etc...not to mention the various companion combinations. I did a playthrough as a Human Noble mage using a mod which is kind of interesting since that is an option in DAI. So...no, I'm not going to suck it up and play as something I don't enjoy just to be able to "experience" different aspects of the game...after all, enjoyment of playing the game is paramount.
I thought that Sera might have been an interesting romance, but it's not to be...oh, well, real life can be like that too so no big deal. Cassandra might be interesting, will have to see...Vivienne seems kind of irritating (although my first impression might be way off), don't know if she's going to be a potential LI anyway. Who knows, I was less than impressed with what I've seen regarding most of the potential companions, but a recent video where that mustache guy talked (Tevinter guy, I think) made me think he might be interesting to hang out with after all. It will be interesting how it all turns out in the end.

I'm kind of concerned about the love interests. I've tried to limit my exposure to spoilers, so I haven't actively investigated the backgrounds of any of the characters, but I haven't felt drawn to any particular one. I mean, I feel like I already know enough about Cassandra, and I'm not attracted to her, so I don't think she will be my canon romance. Sera seems interesting, but she is restricted to females. So I don't know who I'll end up with. In Dragon Age, so far, I've chosen the female mages as my canon romances (Morrigan and Merril). I guess I'm drawn to independent women who like to dabble in forbidden magic. I've yet to find a similar female character in Inquisition. Dorian seems cool, but I'm not gay, so he won't be my canon romance.

Everyone knows who my favorite Li is, I will probably romance Sera with each race in 4 different playthroughs, just cause I'm a a straight male doesn't mean I can't play a female character lol

I still don't know why people are so concerned not having even touched the game yet. I'm starting to think it's a better idea just to keep everything under wraps until the game comes out just so we don't have to deal with people posting the same crap over and over again about how worried they are about things they barely know yet.

I want someone normal. Someone reasonable. Someone with not too much baggage. Someone with not too much drama. The main reason I am not into romances is because they don't have love interests who are these things. All of them have too much baggage, drama and lack reason.
In Dragon Age games so far, the person who most closely resembles my criteria would be Bethany and Aveline. Sadly, Bethany is my sister in game and incest is not my thing, Bethany also dies if I play as mage Hawke and I almost always play as mage Hawke. Aveline on the other hand marries some random guard NPC and at most gives you a kiss.

I admit, the romance options don't seem to be wowing me, and in general it seems sex appeal may be avoided to some degree in this? I can't say if that'll be reflected overall, but there was that article about how they're focusing less on sex in the romances or something like that. Personally, don't think sex and more emotion relationship based romance are mutually exclusive, I'd like them to have plenty of both available. Just sayin'.
I played a female Warden who romanced Leliana, and a male bearded Hawk who romanced Isabela. For me, those were both great ones, feisty overtly sexual sexy characters who also were genuinely likable and nuanced. In this game, it doesn't look like there's anything like that. Granted, I'm sure they'll have a cute naughty piece of dialogue here or there for Cassandra, but in general she doesn't seem like fun. Sera I'm not sure about, plus she might not be an option, since I might want a huge beard on my wizard.
That said, I'm pumped for the game. Maybe Josephine will turn out to be a wildcat? So far I haven't even seen a pic of that character from the neck down either.

Would be nice if we won't have to kill a LI. Just for a f*cking change.
Also, I can relate to people who think there's too much of a drama, and it doesn't matter who you romanced. So I want to see someone who doesn't have a Grand Plan or a big shitty sceleton in their closet.
But I have a feeling that it won't happen, since I heard that the only 1 romance I interested in so far was described as "powerful" (or something like that), and I already expect that sh*t will hit the fan. Oh well.

I'm not so sure they are. Or, not as devoted as they were. Cass, for instance, has her piece of doubts. With Cullen it's also not so obvious now, after DA2 events.

Maybe the inquisitor can flirt with Bethany if she appears in DA:I.
I admit that she would have been my favorite as well, but sadly that would have been incest.

Hmm... Answering the question of the thread, I've got to say: Nope, not really.
I think the majority interesting and it will probably take several run-throughs.
Let's split it into characters in no particular order:
Varric: Unfortunately not romanceable. I was a bit disappointed but at the same time can understand it. Bianca is his one and only love and he might or might not get over her (if she's dead) or just wait to return to her. If he had been romanceable, I'd definitly made a go through the game just to see how he is as a partner, compared as to how I already know him as a companion. Heck I'd even make a female dwarf, even thought for some reason dwarf is the only race I usually don't play, because there is nothing about them that appeals to me to PLAY them.
Cole: Also not romanceable. I liked him from the moment I spotted him in the video. I sometimes have this 'OmGAWD, it's THAT character' moment, which often happens to be the character I like most. I even read up Asunder when I found out that it was pretty much his background story. I still like him. Had he been romancable I'd probably have gone that route one time. Thought I think I'll prefer being his mentor/teacher/bigbro/sis/friend.
Cassandra: When I first heard she would be in the game I was all like: -.- you gotta be kidding me, what would I want with THAT kind of woman in my favourite game. Waste of time *muttermumblepissed*
Then THE TRAILER came out. Alone hearing her voice as she went 'It is difficoult to bear... what happened here..." was a 'O.o omfg is that really Cass?!' leading up to the moment of "Right now YOU are the only thread I see!!!" which made me go: O.o ... ![]()
So yeah, from strong dislike (no one gets to manhandle Varric like that!!! òó *spitting fire*) I went to 'Wowies! I think I'm in digital love' and am going to play a straight male Inquisitor just for her. I'm even going to be nice and giver her a human ;9
Cullen: *coughs* If anyone who knew me thought my first reaction to hearing Cassandra was in the game and romanceable was bad, Cullen... was worse. I couldn't stand him in DA:O and I got nearly as irritated at him as I got about Anders. Nope. I wasn't happy. at. all. Now seeing some gameplay vids that also showed off a bit of Cullen... I'm intrigued. Female Inquisitor coming up later.
Leliana:
Not romancable, not sorry for it either. Honestly, I didn't like her much. To me she is the one that the Maker 'touched in the head'. I liked her well enough the first time around - unless she got to weird. I hated it most that the moment I was a little nice to her, she thought I was flirting with her and we were going out, even thought I was already with Morrigan at that point of time and she accussed me of double dating -.-
Other than that, I do not want characters that were LI before to be LI in a later game of DA (unless I'm playing the same character). It's a 'story already done before'. - It just doesn't hold any appeal to me at all, even if they have changed.
That said, I like what I've seen of her so far. She might have matured into a character I can like and be nice with, without secretly wanting to push her off a cliff.
Sera:
I just ended the Leliana comment with a cliff, right?
That's my impression of Sera so far. If I clicked instantly with Cole, the opposite happened when I saw her. Reading the short character description added to that feeling. Hearing/Reading later what kind of attidude she's going to have with Cole...
I do hope she might turn out to be a character that can be lovable despite all that. Right now however, she's the hottest candidate of getting kicked out of the party - permanently. I mean, I even like some aspectes of Merril - and she was doing a good job of pissing me of rather regulary.
Morrigan:
She's back! ![]()
Again not a LI but I don't care at all - in fact, I'd have been quite mad if she had been. She better stay loyal to my Warden - they are parents now after all >:3
Looking forward to having her around.
Blackwall:
Of all the characters that are out there... there is very little information on him. Can't really say if I'd be interested or not if he was romancable. I like his gruff appearance to be honest, but it really all depends on his personality if I'll give it a go or not if he is avaible. Instinct says he won't be.
Vivianne:
Her first appearance made me laugh and call her the 'pretty barbie of Dragon Age', but I quickly got intersted her due to her character description. A person who knows what she wants and has her own agenda? Niiiiiiiice. But despite that, she actually isn't someone I'd be intererested to romance. Already curious to see how she's going to respond to one of my mages thought.
Dorrian:
Dorian had me raise an eyebrow at that beard and my initial reaction was not in his favour at all. Reading up the little story about him on the hp has turned that all around. Definitly a character I think I'll enjoy by my side just as much as Varric and Mor in this and past games. Also plotting one or two romances with him.
Josephine:
Someone who'll take over all most paperwork?! HELL YES! *coughs*
Alright, so Josie. Well... I dunno about her. I have a bit more information on her than on Blackwall, but... Same feelings as about Blackwall. I think I'll like her, but romance her? Hmm... I don't think so at this point. But hey, it's up to her to sway my mind :3
There are enough variations of Inquisitors I'm intrigued to play, that there might just be one for her if she can manage to catch my attention >:3
Solas:
Uhm... I'm nearly a little ashamed that my first reaction to him was 'Ugh. No. No way.'. He sounded like someone who would get incredible annoying and a 'I know things better than you' to be honest. Having seen gameplay and heard the banter - especially sitting in the show given at gamescom - I've changed my view about him. I don't know if I'll romance him - my gut feeling says no at this point - but I definitly think he would be intersting to romance. Just doesn't tickle my fancy.
Iron Bull:
What can I say? I do look forward to romance him -^^-
I liked his first appearance, thought I didn't think he was a companion at that point. And I hoped we'd get a manly, bulky one to romance - thought I didn't expect a Qunari XD After Sten & the Arishok, I certainly do approve thought ![]()
Also... I consider this contribution after Bioware dangled James in front of me in ME and let me flirt with him and all, but didn't give them a real chance at romance! Now I get the sexy bull and the sexy voice all in one. Not that a bad deal, but I still wouldn't say no to a James romance DLC ;9
I think I covered all characters now?
Already I can see many playthroughs ahead of me as various Inquisitors. Female, male, human, elf, qunari, mage or rogue... Yes, it will be interesting. And fun! I can't help but look forward to see how differently my crew will react depending on what, who and how I play! Also looking forward to see if there will be a lot of difference depending on who or if I romance someone!
As for who's going to be my first romance... I dunno. I'll wait and see. I'm going to start out with my usual character - a male human rogue and then... it's up to Bioware's storytelling on one hand and how the characters appeal to me on the other one.
Also curious to see if during the gameplay my oppinion will do a complete turnabout from what I've written here and today ![]()
If you've read through all of this and have now reached the bottom of my post... Congrats ;D You have quite the endurance!
