Worst news ever....
that's a bit of an overstatement I think, but it's not interesting to me at least.
The characters you play in the mutliplayer are "soldiers" in the inquisition, and that their stories are concurrent to your inquisitor's story, but they have no impact on the single player experience. It is up to four players, basically dungeon crawling Diablo style looking for loot, gold, etc to improve your multiplayer character across the different levels and zones the multiplayer encompasses.
Basically no it doesn't impact the single player experience at all.
Okay i have only 2 questions
1. why does it have to be co-op and not competitive? i hate working with others....
2. can i play it by myself
I'm not particularly excited, but I see no reason to boooo all over it. Others will enjoy it, and it's a genuinely cool idea even if it's not something I really explore myself. And kudos to Bioware for being awesome and making it all available to all players!
So...I'm going to dissect footage for funsies, and yay for all of those who will enjoy multiplayer!

Well, certainly wasn't expecting that BUT given how awesome ME3's MP was and how similar this sounds, I'm looking forward to it! My other Bioware junkie friends and I have had nothing but good times playing ME3 MP together since it's launch 
Still, that was a sneaky way to announce it - would love to see a trailer 
I'm happy for every one who wanted it! From the video, apparently MP doesn't affect SP so that's quite good news. Again, congrats and cheers to those who will enjoy it! : D It looks like a lot of work went in to it and it looks amazing.

This does seem like it'll take up a decent amount of my time after I'm done with SP.
I'm on my cellphone so I can't be bothered to read the article, but does it say if the MP is connected to the SP campaign in any way?
It is not connected to SP - it's just meant to be a co-op campaign with characters that are supposed to be like recruits in the Inquisitor's army doing missions for him/her.
