I figure by themes he means like attacking a Venatori stronghold and stuff

Yeah, reading the article I thought it would be that something that happened, but, it doesn't quite sound like a theme, to me.  Unless the theme is War/Commerce/Intrigue and the various missions are all military ways of achieving advancement in those areas?

And having to split up a games budget between singleplayer and multiplayer content has nothing to do with anything

They split nothing.

Multiplayer means more sales, and more sales means a bigger budget.

If the game was singleplayer only, the budget would be smaller.

Not the same budget. If the game weren't going to have MP, it wouldn't have gotten the budget it got for MP.

Don't explain business finance to people on the internet to people.

Or the fact that the expected revenue from MP microtransactions likely allowed them to go nuts for the SP because of a bonus revenue stream to offset costs.

I believe he meant it like "thematically connected to the story'  The MP characters are agents of the inquisition going doing things "behind the scenes" for the Inquisitor.  You are in Thedas while **** is happening in SP but it is in no way connected in game terms, just "theme" wise.

I'm not at all excited about this but I will try to force myself to give it a try at some point, I guess.

You don't split the budget.  You give SP a $ amount and you give MP a $.  If there was no MP, the SP $ remains the same.  It is unaffected.

Did the article say what kind of game modes it has?

Sounds like short dungeon crawls consisting of a bunch of random but hand designed encounters...

Inquisition’s story is an enormous, 200 hour commitment for completists, so BioWare wants multiplayer to work in short 20-30 minute bursts. Each of the three multiplayer campaigns available at launch randomly generates a large level comprised of smaller sections. you’ll fight through five of 10 pre-designed areas in one go, each with distinct variables. Next time, you may see the same stage in a new spot, or an entirely different collection of arenas entirely, all with different enemy encounters, ideally making multiplayer missions replayable indefinitely.

In my first run through the Elven Ruins, my team fought through a graveyard full of (shared) gold hidden behind doors only accessible by mages. The next time through, the graveyard was replaced by something else, with destructible walls only breakable by the brutish kick of a warrior one of us may or may not have decided to play. In addition to these Elven Ruins, Inquisition’s multiplayer visits Tevinter and an Orlesian Palace, with more locations to come.

(Genuine, in case in needs to be said) Question:  I did read the article (or one of them, at any rate), but didn't see any mention of the 'themes' Mike mentions.  Has there been any clarification on what that meant? note - I know what a theme is, but I'm asking in context to DA MP.  We have John/Allan/Mark all saying no content locked, which is fine, but Mike saying no story impact, but for themes?

The themes are probably just that they're in the same setting. You're playing as a psuedo-agent of the inquisition.

Your best of course may be to wait and see if you're not sure.  It will ensure you won't get burned, and if response is positive it's not like the game won't be available to you.

Cheers.

I may end up doing that.

Trust is slow to return. And this certainly doesn't help matters

Those certainly are words that were said.

If you're not going to even consider what people tell you, you're not having a conversation - you're ranting.

What I don't get it... why didn't they just say this **** during E3/Gamescon? That's when this announcement would have had most impact. If DA:I is good I'll have to convice people who wouldn't normally play it to buy it for the MP.

What's the point of asking a question then if you are not going to believe the answer?  Serious question.

Because After ME3 and now this Bioware's word ain't worth squat,Words can't express how angry I am at Bioware for ruining a Franchise by appealing to the lowest of low common denominators by tacking on a MP mode.Well this is the last time I will ever trust Bioware enough to pre order or to get on Day 1, from now on I'm going to wait till their games are at least 50% off since clearly they knew this all along and have bring stringing those of us who hate MP along.

I'm genuinely sorry for those not excited about MP. :( *big hugs* You must make the choice to buy or not buy, play or not play DAI. Good luck! :)

As for me, I'm bursting with excitement and can't wait to try out this new option for the franchise! :D  If you play on the XboxOne, please feel free to add me (Bekkael), and if you play on the PS4 then please add me there (Bekkael_) as I will be playing DAI on both systems. Come on, November!!!!

False narratives, false narratives everywhere!

It is not a "Horde Mode." It is an exploration-based dungeon crawl with a minor (very minor) Rogue-Like element.

It is not "Pointless." It is valuable to hold game retention, which in turn increases the likelihood of continued support for both Multiplayer and Single Player post-launch content.

Tactical Pause exists because one player is controlling four characters. It is not essential to the Dragon Age: Experience outside of that faculty.

Thematically tying the multiplayer experience in with the single player is smart, weekly operations are great. On the whole, I anticipate a lot of people may actually jump into Multiplayer mode as the Single Player Operation timers tick down.

The Above will inevitably be taken to mean that Single Player and Multiplayer are linked, if you think that, apply the same level of dedication towards some medical research and cure a few diseases.

It's been said a dozen times before, Multiplayer and Single player resources are not mutually exclusive, and neither are the benefits one brings to the table. By distilling the core mechanics of DA:I into its own mode with a large sample base thrown into many different scenarios, players essentially "Playtest" elements of the core gameplay experience. Meaning a tighter design in the future.

Okay, I've said my piece.

Hopefully on the hardest difficulties, this will playout like some of the hardmode flashpoints in SWTOR, which require coordination and specific skills. Traditional holy trinity style tanking, healing and DPS. I love SWTOR and the HM FPs and operations, so this is going to be right up my alley.

If it has only one mode like a horde mode from ME3 MP, it's not really interesting for me. Impossible to step into the same river twice.

How about real co-op and not some tacked on multiplayer mode. Why waste perfecty good resources on this mode? And don't give me its a different team or something like that. Cause if it was a different team. Thats 30-40 people or however many that could have been working on the main game to add more length, or even a real coop mode in the main game.

You're getting a singleplayer game, and an optional multiplayer mode.

They have been ridiculously clear about that.

I guess literally every developer who says otherwise is part of a vast conspiracy.
