One of the things I find really interesting is the 12 (initially; apparently there'll be more coming later) characters we get to play in the MP. Do you think a thread focusing just on these characters would be a good idea, either here in the scuttlebutt section or in the Story, Campaign & Characters section? I'd like to have all the info on these guys concentrated in one place, and with all the PAX reveals this weekend it'd be nice to get that started.
Multiplayer!

Good idea.
I think the multiplayer section might be a good place: http://forum.bioware...ombat-strategy/

I don't know. I've never tried.
But I have a lifetime of evidence that says I interpret information differently from most people.
If you have a pre-determined goal in the form of the gameplay, is there anything to really interpret?

Is there no word about text chat?
I didn't see any evidence of it in gameplay videos. Is text chat another victim of consolitis?
Will PC players not get this option since absolutely nobody talked during ME3 MP at all.

A litte puzzled by your question.
ME3MP didn't have it. Why would you expect it in DAMP?
And how would you have time to type stuff, you're in battle...?
With a headset/mic I can just flip my mute button and talk - instant communication
If many PC players didn't talk on that platform then that's rather up to them.
Had a good chat on Xbox from time to time.
It's pretty clear that the game mechanics are designed to operate uniformly across platforms.

Wouldn't know myself; have not chosen to play ME3, and do not use a mic. However, one does battle in NWN1 - another Bioware title - and is allowed to text and actually attempt to portray their characters in another RPG title.

Since we're going through dungeons rather than doing "horde mode", it's likely to be possible to type between fights. It's a standard PC feature that shouldn't be overly difficult to implement, and since many people of PC don't have or do not use mics, it's certainly useful

I think there is enough precedent either way to make it a fair question. In Battlefield (on the Frostbite engine) PC has text chat while consoles don't.

Omission of text chat might be a design decision to discourage the sort of toxicity that sometimes affects online multiplayer gaming.

I get that they're supposed to, and if they all take ths information the game provides at face value they probably will.
But we're not all bound by some contract with our peers to all play the same way like a bunch of Hobbesian Materialists.
MP isn't the place to go all head cannon and come up with your own objectives. You are dropped in a location and given an objective. You are soldiers not artists. Interpretation takes places over how to do X not if you want to do X.

One question, and maybe answered but I haven't seen it, since this about the loot is will each of the players have their own distinct loot or will you be competing for the same loot as everyone else? It helped ME3 coop a lot that there were no loot ninjas to worry about.

You get your own loot. I think most of the content of chests is gold, which is shared among all players.

OK, that makes sense, gold is shared and you buy, via the store, all the material upgrades. That makes more sense than having folks fight over the Sword of Uber Kill-ness.

If there's no text chat, how can my Reaver have erotic sessions with the cute dwarf rogue between fights?
I thought this was a role-playing game.
It is you just don't understand the role you are playing. You are playing the role of an asexual murder machine. ![]()

No.If you have a pre-determined goal in the form of the gameplay, is there anything to really interpret?
But do you? How do you determine what the objective is? Unless you already knew it before MP was announced, it's not pre-determined.

No.

You are, assuming it is like ME3, dropped in and your commander tells you "you need to do X". That is your objective. Do it.

Your goal is whatever the voiceover at the start of the match tells you it is, and whatever the on-screen text prompts you to do.
I feel like you're massively over-thinking what is essentially a mode for having fun with friends. There really is no flexibility to this type of multiplayer gameplay, the levels and combat only work one way. If you want to roleplay that your character prefers to look for flowers or is hunting for their lost friend, you'll be playing in an environment where 99% of the other players are running around killing things and advancing through the level.

Sorry if this has already been answered - has there been any feedback yet on how long a typical game of DAMP lasts? Frankly, after putting in 600+ hours in ME3 multiplayer my wife sure would appreciate the matches to be shorter. lol

I believe it was roughly half an hour to complete all 5 rounds.

Perhaps, but this could have also ben achieved by leaving it as a solo game. I know, as I played MMO solo, and disabled the chat. But having it available to those interested in RP, simple communication, etc would seem to prefer the choice.

I'm asking because I've never done it before. If the gameplay premise requires some shared assumptions, it would be nice to know what those assumptions are.>________>
