Or both?

I would also find this acceptable. :)

Indeed, I wonder what was simplified, or dumbed down in the sp for this.

Everything.

If there were no MP, you could play a dragon.
If there were no MP, every companion would be a bisexual romance.
If there were no MP, it would be a fully classless system where you could equip anything you wanted.
If there were no MP, it would be totally open-world instead of semi open world.
If there were no MP, they'd have five hundred different spells and abilities instead of just two hundred.
If there were no MP, your PC could be the Warden, Hawke, or the Old God Baby.

I'm actually kind of sad MP will not be related to SP at all. I think it's an pretty cool idea if we could set some of the resources that we found aside and send it to our Inquisitor to boost our money.

Thank you very much for replying, Allan! :D That should put a lot of people at ease!

You'd think that, right?  I wouldn't bet on it however.

Wonder how they can expand the lore via MP, show forces from other countries in thedas and different weapon styles/armor designs of said countries. Lots of potential in this just as ME3 did in with its MP.

I don't think you're understanding what they're saying.

If you play MP and learn HOW a reaver plays and what tactics work against certain enemies you can bring that knowledge into SP and utilize what you learned.  If a SP dev played MP and said 'hey, that enemy set did xyz.  That was pretty cool.  Let's try that in SP' I don't see the issue at all.

I would hope the Devs in charge of creating the combat encounters already know what each enemy does so they can design suitable encounters for the SP game.

Everything. They actually cut Varric's romance and Cullen's sex dialogue to fit it in.

Preset based on specialization, I believe.

that is very disappointing. what's the point of that? they said its mustly about loot not story so why make it where we have to play as per made characters instead making are own... oh wait DLC

Try handhelds. And the PS3. There are plenty.

As opposed to the Western RPG, which is down to: Bioware, Bethesda, Obsidian, and CDPR.

inXile may be joining those ranks, assuming they don't screw up Wasteland 2 and Tides of Numenera.

And here I'm desperately hoping this assurance isn't an "exaggeration"

Hoping it's a website like the N7 HQ was and not a mobile app.

I think the FAQ all but outright says that it is (you can run it on your computer, your phone, even your toaster!).

It's got a horrible name, but I immediately pegged it for a companion website (I wonder if Joe is working on this one also). I'd honestly be surprised if they ever do a companion app again, unless they can leverage one of the EA mobile teams (assuming that any still exist); my guess is that it's going to be "just" a website.

To be honest in my opinion im not so thrilled about MP, i dont think that it has a place here in the DA universe.

The one way i thought to implement this was in the game itself, certain missions where you can coop on similair swtor Flashpoint system where the conversation option is determined by chance, the characters to choose is either hawke or warden.

. But there are major flaws with this. First is that coop mission would be limited, second it is the argue between players of which warden or hawke is the correct one, third is that you might be forced to abandon your spot and you are left there alone and fourth reason is that you can be 2 people playing etc etc.

To summurize multiplayer doesnt have a place here in DA in my opinion.

So you have options, and can wait a few months and make a fully informed decision. No need to 'trust' the devs as their work will speak for itself. Honestly I encourage you to wait and see what is being said by various fans after the game is released.

This sounds cool.
If it is anything like Destiny's companion App it will be cool

DA2 had the same weapon restrictions and had no Multiplayer.

Healing and Support magics have been changed because we wanted to add a strategic component to the exploration aspect that made health a resource to be managed.  This was stated as a goal internally probably as early as late 2011.

Armors are not restricted while weapons are because most of the abilities/feats feed into weapon types.  We'd have to make the ability trees for each class overlap (which we didn't want to do) or create custom abilities for the types (i.e. bow skills for a warrior).

The latter part is where I disagree a bit, as I know I often utilized S&S for my AW in DAO by choice, even though there are no offensive Talents. And there are those that have played Rogues utilizing 2H weaponry, though no Talents were used there either. Leaving the Player the options of choice sometimes is preferable over insuring that they make the recommended selections.

But I am guessing that this is meant to be about better balancing for co-op, so lesser choices are abandoned. Still, I miss having choices beyond the set type.

What if you lose track of time and end up spending four hours playing multiplayer?

I suppose that that would be tangentially "caused" by MP. XD

When they say "preset", from what I've understood, it means characters with premade face and voice (with banters) and a "class" which takes two skill trees from SP and represents an archetype, like Reaver is two-handed "DPS" and Legionnaire is sword&shield tank but you choose how you spend the points in these trees as you see fit, and you choose what armor and weapon (restricted to their class, obviously) your character wields by crafting/looting them. So it's still very customizable, I think.

But how does tactical combat view plays in multiplayer? It looks very action oriented from what little I have seen.

The tactical view is in [based on the video which showed the isometric view being used] but there is no pausing, etc from the tactical combat mode in MP.

You may send agents of your Inquisition there, but no I do not believe the SP game takes you to Tevinter.

I know things are moving fast in this thread, but wanted to come back to this.

So tevinter(for launch) is MP only? Hopefully we are just talking about a randomly generated dungeon?

User

Question: Are MP characters' genders fixed, or are there male/female options for each character?

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

They are characters, so their genders are fixed, but there are men and women warriors, for instance.

User

MP doesnt have an impact on SP but does SP have an impact on MP? Like you can only play a mission once youve 'unlocked' in SP?

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

Nope. Consider them separate.

Because yet again a franchise that was exclusively SP as a matter of fact one of the Few SP Franchises that has not had MP either tacked on or some shameless cash MMO variant like SWTOR and ESO has had a MP tacked on to "please the screaming playing wit ma fwends is awesomesauce plebs"at that point it has ceased to be "Dragon Age".

Even if for once Bioware/EA tell the truth and SP is not affected by MP it does not change the issue which is that there should be no Mp mode period in a Dragon Age game.

All I heard was: "YOU CAN ONLY PLAY THE WAY I PLAY. ALL OTHER WAYS TO PLAY, OR EVEN WANT TO PLAY IS WRONG!"..

You must be fun at parties....

I think, I'll just go play myself some multiplayer with my friends, while I ammuse myself at the thought of your hissyfit. Baibai.
