Oh, goody. I can't wait for all the threads about how people who aren't the super best need to stay on the easy level of MP so the super best can do their speed runs unimpeded by someone just trying to have fun. Or the people who automatically vote to boot others from a game of they don't answer through their headset before the game starts. Or the people who automatically vote to boot others if their character's level isn't high enough. Yes, I'm sure this version of horde mode will be quite fun.

But at least playing against other players in an arena-based mode would be something we can't do in the single player or is Mass Effect 3's identical multiplayer mode. We can already go around killing stuff with a party in single player, and we can already an identical form of multiplayer in Mass Effect 3.

Honestly my "solution on how to fix it" would be: Come up with a new and interesting form of multiplayer, or just don't bother adding one at all.

But...the only types of multiplayer play are co-op (which this game has) or player-versus-player (PvP), both of which only have a handful of variants, and, to be honest, I don't think BioWare's general fanbase is really the PvP type of multiplayer player. I could be wrong though.

As much as I scoffed at the idea of co-op in the main story, where someone takes control of one of your companions, I would have found it much more interesting and exciting than a dull copy-paste of Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. They could even have given the controlled companions extra dialogue choices and such for the person playing, and other neat bonus features like that.

But of course they wouldn't do that, because there's no easy way to monetize it, and at the end of the day that's what the multiplayer mode is really for. To make more money through microtransactions, not to actually provide a new gameplay experience.

Not really, no. It's a piece of (entertainment) media, just like movies, music etc. Do you classify movies and music as toys? Though...I suppose...I guess you could, really.

I wouldn't classify them as toys, they are Art and part of our culture.

Why can't toys be art and part of our culture?

they're basically are training video games to me. they help train our reflexes, train our responses and increase our ability to think, remember more things. etc etc what you can think of it as are. they are, in a form of training entertainment.

I relate games (at least like this) more to books. It's interactive fiction. Not always as refined as traditional storytelling, but when it works, it's pretty damn cool.

Games focusing solely on combat mechanics feel more like "toys". Which isn't what RPG (and Adventure) games are necessarily about.

Killing minions and mini bosses for loot? Sounds absolutely pointless, and the short clips didn't look impressive either. Still that ugly UI and other than that looks identical to every other MP out there, none of which I bother to play either.

We could have it affect the single player campaign, that would be fun, yes? It would also make it NOT pointless, as you put it.

Worst news ever....

Indeed - for frack's/christ's sake, IT IS AN RPG NO GOD-DAMNED SHOOTER (yes: I play shooters and I like the multiplayer - but there was no need/point in adding it to Dragon Age :( ....I bet those resources could have been used in better ways (more regions, characters, maybe start working on DLC etc.)...)

And it does not matter if it is fun/cool either, it should not be there!

Bioware? - Why do you need to push that crap at us? (is it EA forcing you?)

greetings LAX

ps: I will probably still buy the game, but I am considering not pre-ordering now (and a pre-order was a given for me, because I like DA...even DA2 (like DA:O way more, but hey, compared to other games on the market DA2 was not so bad...just not what we expected from Bioware quality wise!)...but now I am not so sure)

Not really, no. I don't want it to affect SP in any way, but that doesn't mean the sole purpose of playing MP can and should only be gathering loot. Some degree of a mini story might tempt me to try it out, but if I want to hack and slash and loot a little more I can just do another SP side quest.

Your argument would work if Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, hailed as some of the best RPGs of all time (also developed by BioWare), didn't have multiplayer play. Heck... Almost all of the old, classic RPGs (hailed to be some of the best) have a multiplayer element.

Even table-top RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons, the first RPGs, require multiplayer pretty much to even function.

I have actually used DA2, the ME series, Skyrim, and SWTOR as methods of rehab for my reduced reflexes and abilities following my stroke. And SWTOR received accommodations for their UI being user friendly for those with disabilities, I believe.

While I may not be able, or choose to play DA-MP myself, I do not begrudge others the gameplay that is offered here. It has nothing to do with the solo game; will not interfere with those wishing to skip it.

which were co-op in campaign, but not true multiplayer... these words have meanings in gaming culture.
Also what about KOTOR and Jade Empire... they didn't and they are what built the Newer Bioware Community.

The sole purpose of multiplayer isn't gathering loot, silly... It's paying for loot through microtransactions.

Meh, it is in the game regardless to how much I hate it, and I don't understand the purpose of the heated debate.  Though I guess that seems to be the effect multiplayer has on this board.  Lord knows I still remember all the many arguments over balance changes for mass effect 3.

So, I guess I should just say continue practicing for the events to come I suppose.  Happy fighting!

The Multiplayer does not have any impact on the single player game.  This doesn't speed up advisor missions.

Thank you Allan (may I call you that?), I'll hold you to that (note: that means no loot you find there is suddenly available in SP, neither are crafting materials and other things (no war assets/readiness/better troops if you play MP) - right?...because well, ME3 was like that and I hated that...never got the best ending because I never played the MP (never wanted to...I'd rather play Battlefield or even *shudder* Call of Duty)
