this to me is like a store bought salad, it might have some dressing I am not interested in/ don't like accompanied with the salad, but that doesn't mean I have to open the bag and pour  it over my salad, I can just ignore it.

How are your hopes destroyed? If the MP doesn't color or modify your SP experience in any shape or form, what do you lose? How does it hurt your enjoyment of the game?

Curious minds want to know!

Its existence is an insult and an affront to all SP gamer's some things should never be even considered for a story driven, squad based RPG and MP is one of them any potential immersion in the story has now been ruined by the knowledge that a shameless MP has been tacked on to pander to the "everything must have MP because showing ma fwends swinging dis ubersword and bragging about ma level 12 prestige is da awesomz" Like they used to say in Seaseme Street

One of these things just doesn't belong here!(that's MP FYI)

Exactly that (same for all the other things in the posting you quoted in yours) -.- so bad, we get stupid-player (that's what I call multiplayer if it's added to games "just to be there", more so if those games were never planned with it in mind (remember DA - like ME was - is a SINGLE-PLAYER, STORY and CHARACTER DRIVEN RPG - not an MMO, not a multiplayer shooter, not a Co-Op-Adventure etc. - the MP is just tacked on, probably with ressources that could have been used (if the people working on it would have been made part of the main Dragon Age Design Team) to add some of the features we have long been requesting (from real quivers for our arrows, to sheathes for our bladed weapons, to more armor pieces, additional weapons (spears, halberds etc.) etc. etc.) and to get more (and probably better) polishing done - and, as an added bonus, they would not have had to delay the game to put that in (!)...hell, for all we know, the MP could be the real reason for the delay (one they don't want to mention!))

Note: It not being integrated (while I certainly like that, as I hated that the ME3-MP was necessary for the breath-scene) makes it even more tacked on (like a price-tag you rip of, if you want to give the object to someone else as a present)

greetings LAX
ps: Stop calling it DAMP - It makes me want to bury you under a mountain of towels...being wet all the time can't be healthy (even if you might be a women/girl ^^)

This nonsense again. No, the resources for MP would not be able to have been used on SP. EA is not going to spend extra money on the SP if MP was not a thing, nor would the vast majority of investors be interested in doing this because it doesn't generate extra profits beyond a certain point. The developers who are hired for MP aren't going to be hired for SP.

The game already has real quivers. Sheathes would still not be created because EA would likely never fund it, nor would BioWare be spending lots of resources on something beyond trivial but very costly to create when they can spend the same funds on something more substantial, such as real extra content. And to get more extra polishing done? At some point a game needs to be shipped, no sane publisher is going to throw away money just to keep on polishing for longer than is necessary. All in all, it is really apparent you know very little of game development.

Remember, that DAO was supposed to have multiplayer as well but BioWare scrapped it? This alone shows that the DA series weren't created to just be single player games. BioWare has always wanted to add multiplayer, as they have done in their older games but they couldn't make it work until now.

Seriously, your anti-MP arguments are extremely baseless. It is fine not to like MP but it is something else to believe somehow the funds would be allocated for SP if MP didn't exist. The SP part of the game has gotten more than enough funding or we wouldn't be getting over a 100 hours of content.

Let us just assume that people are able to learn for their mistakes through relevant criticism and experience.

Given that as far as I know Alan is the only Bioware employee who has ever publicly acknowledged there was ever a problem withME3's EMS at all, let alone that a mistake was made, how can I trust that anything was learned?

Don't get me wrong, I totally respect Alan for that, but it's rather distressing that he is unique I this matter.

I heard the exact analogy in 2012. Guess where?

I think over the past few years, Bioware have made ALOT of ef ups though some are rather relative as to whether you liked DA2 and ME3.

but there was that BioWare community challenge, promised not to be rushed DA2, ME3 was kinda personally an overall disappointment in the RP department, ME3 multiplayer and so on.

Oh yeah, that's totally in contradiction with the principles of multiplayer.

Since it seemed to be a point of discussion earlier, I went back and tallied the reactions of individual posters in this thread. I'm a budding social scientist, so let's call it good practice.

I divided reactions into positive ("I can't wait to play it", "I'm looking forward to this", "hell yeah"), neutral ("I won't use it", "glad it's standalone so I can ignore it", "meh", "I'll only try it a bit") and negative ("boo", "this will lose them millions of dollars") categories. I ignored posts that were asking or answering questions, or that didn't clearly state an opinion about the news. Each individual username was only counted once.

I was fairly loose with the categories, so "positive" includes everything from minor approval to huge excitement, and negative includes "I'm not sure about this" to major disapproval. In cases where people expressed mixed positive and negative reactions, or "I'll wait and see", I put them into neutral too. The majority of posts in this thread have been by ten or so people.

Out of 1493 replies at the time I collected the data, there were 210 individual people who expressed an opinion about MP.

101 people (48.1%) were positive

39 people (18.6%) were negative

70 people (33.3%) were neutral

Here is a shiny pie chart:

I'll summarize it thusly: For me personally the worst thing about multiplayer are other Human enemies and companions.

This does not surprise me and I'd assume BioWare did similar though much more thorough  and scientific research

not to mention the fact that people who are dissatisfied are more likely to voice their opinion

So you're lumping those who don't like it but swallow Bioware's "it's optional" line as neutral?

People with this attitude are nuts.  With all due respect.  These two cliches are made for this line of thinking, Cutting off your nose to spite your face and throwing the baby out with the bath water.

So having co-op in earlier Bioware games was also an insult? Enough of their past games clearly shows that co-op is very much a part of story driven, squad based RPGs.

I also fail to see how your immersion in the SP game has now been ruined because of the addition of MP which has no influence on your SP experience.

The fact that you bothered doing this is both impressive and insane (or maybe insanely impressive, i havent decided yet)

So when can we start talking about the actual features of the multiplayer and move on from how it's surely the third coming of BioWare's downfall..?

Never the doom drums will sound until they reverse this madness and admit that adding MP is a mistake that will never be repeated again.

No.

Dislike was always coded as negative.

Where people expressed a willingness to play or try the game, or if they said "I won't play it but I'm fine if other people do", that went into neutral.

(And if you're proposing that some views be discounted just because they aren't as paranoid as you, that's... interesting.)

I had a spare hour and excess curiosity.

I imagine BW do this sort of stuff all the time, it was basically a big part of Jessica Merizan's job for a while after ME3.

Except combat design. And the dumbing down of the UI, for one, which happens to be the exact same UI as the MP mode. Hope you don't need more than those eight skill slots ever.

The problem with this is that it's BSN, and BSN's not representative of the whole. The other places I've glanced at are vastly more negative toward this, especially after ME3.
