Well the way it worked in ME3 was that leveling your characters didn't take terribly long

it was the acquisition of gear that was the time sink.

how much of a factor gear will be in combat efficacy remains to be seen

the right weapons made a huge, some would say imbalancing, difference in ME3MP

well just look a the DA IOS game that requires people to buy cards...how much of a money sink is that game?

The first singleplayer DLC is exclusive to Xbox One, but it's a timed exclusive.

I am positive that there'll be heaps of SP DLC. It's where the majority of their audience will want to spend their money.

only the first? i thought its a long term deal?

either way as long as its timed exclusive and not actual exclusive i dont see a problem

We're not going to stop calling it DAMP. For one thing, the developers call it that. For another thing, there's no better acronym for Dragon Age multiplayer.

They could call it Inquisition Multi-Player, IMP. Seems to fit the game better and when you talk about MP players you can call them IMPs.

There is nothing to fix as there is nothing broken.

At max they could change again but they do not need to fix anything.

The setting is broken.

I'm a simulationist, not a gamist. If a mage can't pick up an axe and swing it around ineffectively, I need an in-setting explanation for that. Gameplay and animation considerations are irrelevant.

I wish people would quit using this as an example. The average character (say, cleric) can pass eight slots by fifth level. Mage at sixth, and Sorcerer by second. It actually, you know, grows.

It's there for exactly the same reason

to force players to chose which resources to take into battle

and it is actually less restrictive than D&D since you don't have to rest to switch out spells/skills

you can do it after every battle

The only thing that troubles me about this multiplayer announcement is how the combat system might be tweaked to allow for non-tactical camera to be perfectly usable. On higher difficulties in Origins or even 2, you NEEDED to pause to win. In this, it seems they've tailored it to be OK to be action orientated.

The devs have explicitly stated the higher difficulties will necessitate at least some tactical cam usage.

well okay maybe if you're a mage then yes, 8 is not nearly enough, but for the other classes you dont have that many active abilities that you can choose by the time you reach max lvl

Dual wielding DA2 rogue with assassin and shadow specialties:

Backstab, miasmic flask, twin fangs, unforgiving chain, mark of death, assassinate pinpoint strikes, inconspicuous,  decoy,

That's nine activated abilities, assuming you don't want lacerate (or any other sustained ability) on the tray to toggle on and off and you don't take evade from the subterfuge tree (which can be really handy).

What possible in-game justification could there be for that?

I don't know I didn't play it most mobile games have pretty cynically mercenary progression systems

a current game like that is Warframe

ME3MP wasn't really like that it was pretty easy to not spend money

I can't answer that question for you as my need for in-game justification isn't as all consuming as your own

Why do you think SP will suck? Story? Gameplay?

Yeah, the story is already a famous Bioware cliche - "save the world from an epic threat". DA3 Gameplay is hard to say, but all flashy and action combat doesn't really look promising. Maybe it's characters would be a saving grace because they are already the best part of Bioware games imo..

It's not deal with it.

I will question. And I will complain.

But I won't do it in the multiplayer thread, because I have no interest multiplayer.

This is wrong. I can see it for something like say, health potions. Each character's only got so many spaces they can stow a potion bottle without bordering on "portable hole" territory. Or even party members - some reason why I shouldn't just take along -everyone- and have to leave some behind.

But abilities? Let's say my character has a shield sustained that makes him immune to knockdown, similar to DAO. Now I don't want to map it all the time, because I don't get much trouble - but if an ogre, or a giant, or a damned dragon shows up - I'll want to use it. Guess what? I either have to have foreknowledge of an encounter, save scum, or be totally unable to use it at all.

This is not good design in any stretch of the imagination.

no romances, 0/10

Seriously though, what other races could you play as past the Dwarf, Elf, Human, Qunari, Darkspawn... Sylvan?

Dragon Age Heroes has no spending requirement. I played that game for months without spending a thing.

And then I quit, because they kept changing the rules (as so often happens in MP games), and that's not okay.

Prepare for dwarven mages, people. Multiplayer fans don't give a **** about lore, all they want is their "fun".

Hate to tell you this my friend, but NWN is still being played. That came out over a decade ago. This is due to two factors, one the tool kit is amazing, and two the multiplayer allows friends to build entire worlds together. It is the best simulation of a true table top DnD game. Albeit limited by the time it takes to make all the scripts, etc.

So MP (in a general sense) certainly doesn't limit a games lifespan. It can, but then so can a crappy SP game (I'm looking at you Bound in Flames, I had such high hopes :( ).

So? BGII and Fallout 1 are still being played. NWN was a complete flop as an MP game commercially. While MP is obviously popular - just look at MMOs - proper highly regarded RPGs have never featured it to any degree. And that includes BGI-II.
