go to a dietitian

ASAP, she/he will give u a great diet to follow, I needed a few extra kg.... worked like a charm and I did not have to do anything except eat certain types of food ALONG with my normal diet ... its different for each person

things NOT to do:

1- don't stop eating that will just make things worst

2- don't take miracle pills or drugs unless you want to lose your sexual drive at age 30 and grow extra eyes on you butt

3- don't do sports if you don't want to, if you do it just because you have to it will do NOTHING you will feel bad and your body will feel bad

What?

You have to elaborate on that, because from where I stand right now, that sounds like a lot of BS. Because sports, as in physical excercise, is the ONLY way to efficiently burn through energy reserves. Just eating differently makes no difference. You may ingest less calories, but you're still not burning any of those you actually want to lose. The only thing gained from a smart diet is that you don't add up much weight, but it doesn't reduce that which you already have, especially when you have a slow metabolism as OP said!

To lose weight in a capacity that is not harmful to your body, you have to eat healthy AND do physical exercises. Everything else is simply harmful to your body.

I have an elliptical machine in my living room. Turn on the tv and just use it. Tv makes a good hour or two go by. Thus I tend to keep in relatively good shape.

I'm not an expert on the subject matter but to the best of my understanding the best way to do this is lots and lots cardiovascular exercise on a regular basis. I don't think lifting weights will be enough to boost your metabolism, that's an exercise that builds muscle. What you want is something that burns calories. So running, jogging, cycling, sit-ups, push ups, jumping jacks, swimming ( my personal favourite ) and aerobics.

Unless your obese and eat like a pig I wouldn't bother cutting back on daily food intake, as long as your burning more calories than you take in on a daily basis you should be fine.

Lot's of good points already, just remember everyone's body reacts differently. I eat six meals a day do my weights, some boxing just try to stay active. Cardio is important and swimming is great for that. Just don't get discouraged, push through always. Good luck hope you get the results you're seeking.

1. Watch what you eat. Lots of carbs are very bad. Protein and fat, not so much. But do not over eat anything and do not go to extremes.

2. Forgive yourself when you over eat or over indulge and move on.

3. Get plenty of exercise. Exercises you can do for free are walking, running, tai chi and related activities and dance. Exercise to the point of discomfort. Don't do ten reps every day. Do ten reps faster or eleven reps or add weights. Never be satisfied with your current performance.

4. If you have an idle moment, exercise. Crank up your speakers and dance your heart out. Amuse your pets. Entertain your neighbours.

5. Stay in constant motion. Do not let your body be still.

6. Look for covert opportunities to exercise. Walk to the store rather than drive. If you do drive, park as far away as possible from your destination. Walk up stairs rather than take the elevator. When you go shopping, walk down every aisle.

I like food too much to really change my eating habits. What I've found works for me is what several have mentioned already. Exercise. Though in my case it isn't sports. I find that strength building exercises have been reducing my belly line at a reasonable pace. Plus as a side benefit of exercise over diet you get stronger and don't risk starving your brain of carbohydrates.

Try biking. It's fun, much more than running or jogging. If you live on the coasts, find a beach that has a bike path. It's also more fun with a friend. (Correction: Activities are fun with friends.) You can support each other if you have the same weight-reduction and getting sexy goals.

I'm planning to bike on the GWB towards Manhattan just because it looks fun to do.

Another suggestion is to walk in destinations located in your town instead of driving there. If you have errands or you just want a bagel, walk. I time my walks around 8am because research shows your thyroid and corticosteroid hormone levels are highest during that time of day.

Well, you don't really get much street cred for saying "I'm a pre-med trying to be doctor." You're still pre-med, emphasis on the prefix. I'm not trying to put you down. I have two Bachelors degrees in biology and nursing, and I've studied biochemistry and bits of nutrition. All that information may or may not be worth jack ****, and I'm old enough to say I don't have the experience in providing clinical teaching on nutrition (well, at least, not yet). So, I guess my advice is don't let what you're studying believe you to think you know better. I'm glad you know stuff. But, you will realize, on the undergrad level, you don't know ****.

Geez, I'm just defending myself against a guy who just attack me for trying to be helpful. It's not like I said I know everything, just more than a guy who make an obvious statement then attack someone else. I personally lost weight using my methods, so it works at least for me, so I'm just refuse his statement. I don't get why you need to harp on me and my other conversation with someone else who insulted me for no reason. Thanks for telling me I don't know s-, I already know that, that's why I'm still in school to learn more s-.

that's actually insulting to me. referring to me as he/she. I'm She. please refer to me as such.

I lift 10 tons (2.5) each sometimes I add few such as 20 tons (6.5) to lift. they're pretty demanding for my physical strength but it helps builds my muscles a bit.

LOL take it easy. You are WAY too defensive about the "identity" stuff. Wow.

To go along with a cardio regime make sure you incorporate weight training as well.  Muscle is much more efficient at burning fat and calories than otherwise.  Make it a 50/50 split in any workout routine.  The more muscle you add the more the bodies engine will gobble up calories.

just one thing, I really don't do diet. I know for the fact that it is very bad for you.

long time ago, I used to do lifts with one side of large trampoline and then weights, swimming, running. of course, I was much younger back then.

but I will take the advices you guys have posted for me to use, except diet.

Diet is not bad.

It's just that most people associate diet with "do not eat", which of course is unhealthy. A proper diet for losing weight, aside from just being a healthy, balanced one, is protein-rich to help facilitate muscle growth. The heathly aspect is self-explanatory, and the muscle one as has been noted, more muscles can burn through more calories.

And given how most people having problem with their weight have one because of an unhealthy diet, changing that one is usually solid advice.

Just to let this one hang in the air for everyone out there.

@Cassandra Saturn
Try to do something strenuous continuously for an hour at least 3 times a week. If you're doing weight sets, then keep walking between them, don't rest... or don't rest much.

That's why gym trainers or martial arts classes are good - they keep you moving for the whole period 45 - 50 minutes without rest.

I guess diets will help, and I keep hearing about weight training, but in my personal experience, it is the aerobic exercise that really gets you to lose weight, and it relieves stress.

Well, do sports.

The body won't start burning his fat until it actually needs to tap into those energy reserves, so the good old trick is simply force your body to use up lots of energy. It also has the added benefit to increase fitness.

As for how to most efficiently do that: swim. The butterfly stroke technique in particular excercises pretty much everything. Just hit the next public bath and swim a couple rounds. Do that regularily and you'll be fit in no-time.

As an aside:

Don't do diets. The body is not stupid. If you force energy shortages not by physical exhaustion but malnutrition, the body will tap into your muscles weaves rather than your fat, for two reasons. First, muscle is easier to break down and turn into energy than fat and secondly, your body is not stupid and will get its energy reserves from somewhere that's not needed. In case of doing diets and no sports, that's the muscles. You aren't using them much after all and the fat is better served maintaining as a longterm insurance.

The human body really likes its fat reserves.

From my completely unscientific observation swimmers don't tend to lose much weight. But just compare the bodies of olympic swimmers to other athletes. Especially sprinters. I would focus on high-intensity, interval based exercises that take place on land. And butterfly stroke is a like a crazy difficult thing to learn that you wouldn't pick up "just to lose weight".

and diet is DEFINITELY important. Not in the sense that you should eat as little as possible, but in following a strict and healthy plan. When it comes to purely losing weight I find it more effective than exercise. Exercise tends to make you eat a horse/like a horse. In fact to answer your question off the top of my head the single easiest way to increase your metabolism to have lots of small meals spread through the day. Bodybuilders eat I think it was 11 meals a day (not a single person has mentioned this?)
