Um...the vast majority of Thedas's population follows the Chantry based in Orlais. I think they know about it. You can't deny there are cases of abuse of power by mages. You can't deny that the role played by the Templars isn't necessary.
I think the big thing is that there needs to be changes to the system. I.E. the Chantry should not have control of the templars or circles. I think the Chantry having all this power from the templars and circles is what is causing the issues of abuse of power from the Chantry.
The templars need to remember that they don't just hunt down mages, they are supposed to protect them as well protect the population from them as well. They need to remember that.
You cant deny the chantry stooped the original templars from exterminating all mages.
When did that happen?

in fairness the overwhelming frenchness of his name works against him, i wonder what manner of dreadful accent all the french people will have in this installment ^^
Read the DA wiki. The original templars wanted to kill all mages in thedas. The chantry stopped them and compromised with an accord, i think the nevarran accord..When did that happen?
When did that happen?
I believe there was a big witch hunt after the fall of Tevinter, and the circles were originally created partially to help prevent that.
I think we should all take a breath.
Stay Calm.
And Support Gaspard for Emperor.
This man understands! Long live Gaspard! Long Live the Empire!
I like fluent english, i cannot lie..Orlais is the greatest civilization in Thedas!

Let's remind the templars of what their job is by giving them no one to answer to but their own ranks. Sounds like a good plan to me.
Thedas does not need them as they live without them for more than 8500 years and majority of Thedas still do not need and many do not see Templars or heard about Orlais Chantry
Templars for just 700 years only make things worst and worst as a Orlais Chantry
You need someone who can battle demons and battle mages effectively and that's where the Templars come in, most common men and women let's face it can't fight demons, mages and abominations and such very well.

Filthy Dog Lords getting support they don't deserve. They exist to be conquered by Fantasy! France!
This man understands! Long live Gaspard! Long Live the Empire!
when the Blight is ravaging across the entirety of Thedas its time to put aside your petty grievances
I know. I wasn't claiming they were in the right. But my point is they didn't have a uniquely sinister elven reason for not participating. Nations refusing to aid others in Blights is not uncommon.

do you know that there is many versions of Chant of light and even Orlais Chantry with their the most young version despire their effors was fail to get rid of all of them...especially like orthodox one as in Tevinter who was the first one who since Hesarian spread religion in Maker in east and after to south
Nevarra, Tevinter have different Chantry...and Rivain(where is majority does not believe in Maker) and Anderfels despire some of their connection with Orlais(even Tevinter was have some connection with orlais chantry before they start to do ****) one have not influenced with Orlais doctrines
and if some forget there is many societies like avvars, chasind, dornaki and many others who live without any templars and chantry
the Thedas universe, history and nature is deny that Tempalrs is or was necessery

Oh I fully agree with the need for reforms. I was addressing the idea that a group filling the templar's role isn't ever necessary. The individual I quoted stated point blank that Thedas didn't need Templars.
Thedas doesn't need Templars.
Thedas doesn't need Templars.
Read the DA wiki. The original templars wanted to kill all mages in thedas. The chantry stopped them and compromised with an accord, i think the nevarran accord..
Sorry, but I prefer official World of Thedas over the wiki. The Nevarran Accord was signed between the original Inquisition (yes, the guys that would become the Templars and the Seekers of Truth) and the Chantry, but not everyone agrees on the same thing.
We have a codex written by "an unknown priest" in 8:80 that calls the Inquisition "a reign of terror" and against mages. However, the codex entry that appears in WoT is written by the famous and much more open minded Genitivi. What does he say about the Inquisition?
"Was theirs a reign of terror? Perhaps. But all evidence shows they were just as vigilant in their protection of mages as they were of regular people. Any time they intervened, an ad hoc trial was convened to determine the guilty party."
So yes, I can and do deny that the Chantry stopped the "original templars" from exterminating all mages, because it never was their goal.
