Urban sprawl and poverty doesn't usually lead to numbers growing smaller.

In reality, Urban sprawls tend to not be housing the smallest population when it comes to various races either.

Seriously one elf for every hundred humans or so, it isn't exactly a small margin, and that divide isn't going to go anywhere.

There are simply far too many humans :P

The measure i most often apply to a military situation is what is the goal of the opposition, if it is achieved or not.

More often then not, these rebellions NEVER achieve their ultimate objective, and therefore to me from a military standpoint, they are failures even if they succeed on the field.

That's the funny bit about fighting going past nobles fighting over territory, when you involve ideologies, and social constructs it gets far more taxing to actually achieve your aim.

Seizing territory, populations and alike is relatively simple.

Converting others to a religion or ideology however is a much more complicated chore.

So it's not as if i don't give "rebellions" their due.

I just acknowledge most of them fail.

LOL. I don't know why, but I almost always agree with you on every single topic :D .

Eh, humans hate each other as much as the elves so there's that too.

All Elves shall migrate to the Aldmeri Dom...oh, wrong franchise,

*looks up at post above him*

HA!

Do mean how the Chantry has propagated religious/cultural intolerance; encouraged elven oppression; supported drug addiction (lyrium trade and templars); and used religious influence to play favorites with Orlais and create a harsh self-destructive climate for a mage to grow up in then?

Then, yes. The Chantry does beautifully good work.

I blame all evil on Orlaisian influences.

Because they're Orlaisian.

Right?

Seriously is with people and harping on the Chantry for the Lyrium.

The Templars CHOOSE to be templars.

They acknowledge what they are doing to themselves, its a sacrifice to keep the common people safe!

It's like spitting in the eye of a soldier that jumped on an IED to protect his comrades in my eye.

Not everyone choose to be templars. Alistair didn't. Duncan had to save him from it.

Uh, No.

You can leave the Chantry, or never take a vow.

That's your decision.

Its happened enough i figure folks would have gotten that bit by now.

Besides Alistair was just grumpy he got ditched and gave to the Chantry.

Free Education, room and board and he ****es, seriously why do people like him again?

I'm kind of sad David Gaider backpedaled on the idea Templar abilities need Lyrium because that implied a lot about the Chantry being an incredibly greedy and hypocritical group of people. It implied they were selling magical heroin to their Templars to keep them loyal and using the Circle System to keep the Mages so they had political and military power in Thedas independent of the kings and queens.

I also liked the idea the Rite of Tranquility exists not because it's more merciful but because there's a [censored] ton of money to be made from enchantment.

I still think the Tranquil one is true.

Not all of them chooses, some do it out of desperation out of supporting their families and some of them come from Chantry children that get left at their door.

They can leave, but chances are they are going starve and have lyrium addictions issues.

They still choose it, you can blame it on their social situation or no.

But there are plenty of other positions in the Chantry they could have taken besides going into the Templars.

By becoming a templar, you know what you are signing up for it, it isn't hidden from you.

I hate to say it, but I'm with Master Warder Z.

I doubt the Chantry Sisters know why the Templars use Lyrium anymore than the Templars do.

They just use it.

Also, most people want to be Templars because it's an opportunity.

People like Carver.

Still, I like the drug-peddling Chantry.

Are you saying Lady Insanity thinks the Red Templars might be a recruitable faction? I do recall the developers saying some Red Templars could be spoken to, so giving the player a choice in deciding how to handle different factions (including the Red Templars and the Chantry of Andraste) would be entertaining, and similar to one of the aspects I found quite enjoyable about New Vegas.

In her review of the Enemies of Thedas trailer, she refers to some of the templars being ordered around by Cullen as Red Templars, she may be right or wrong on this, but that is what she said.

Btw, I agree with you on New Vegas. It is one of the trademarks of Obsidian and previously Black Isle in their games that they even allow you to choose to ally with the most wretched of groups.

Except he says he would have been forced to take the vows if Duncan hadn't showed up. And the chantry take the children born in the circle and raise (indoctrinate) them to be priests or templars. That is unless they too turn out to be mages, then they just lock them up in another tower and try to indoctrinate them to hate themselves because they are "cursed with magic" due to some sin made by other people centuries ago.

Of course Alistair complains. He had no choice, he didn't want to take that path in life. The fact that he considers joining the Wardens and receiving a death sentence to be a lucky escape speaks volumes about how he had it in the Chantry.

Yeah, I love making Dragon Age a very very corrupt and awful place.

It makes burning the place to the ground all the more fun.

...I am personally very happy he did clarify on that bit.

I mean just imagine!

Alistair was this princly fellow who was trained to be a templar and escaped unnecessary drug addiction!

Now Alistair is a lying lyrium fiend snorting up the dust behind the PC's back the entire game!

I was WONDERING why we collected 40+ Lyrium potions.

I assume my guzzling them like Snapple during the Final Battle was due to Al's influence.

Toxic toxic friend that he was.

The addictive mind-numbing effects of lyrium are not proven but the Chantry makes us put warning labels on the lyrium bottles anyway. Grrr.

We saw one templar in Denerim who had pretty much lost his mind and short term memory and there is that one templar who got kicked out of the templars in Kirkwall and he suffering from withdrawals even years after it happened and the one being in locked up in Denerim.

So the affects are real.

Not behind the PC's back in every playthrough. Think about it: he teaches the warrior Warden how to ba a Templar. After that clarification, it means the PC had to use lyrium too. Alistair had to share part of the good stuff while lying about "yeah, the effects aren't so bad, you can fight the addiction, you won't really need lyrium to keep these cool templar powers".

Now I feel the need to replay DA:O with a Templar Warrior.
