Anita Sarkeesian, of Feminist Frequency fame, briefly mentioned Dragon Age: Origins at timestamps of 3:17 and 17:00

For the most part, I agreed with this assessment, but wanted her to delve deeper of what it meant for the City Elf. To expand, I wanted to know how Anita felt about the idea of the female City Elf Grey Warden who was caught in the same situation of being kidnapped as say, Shianni, but is 'not' the victim of sexual abuse but instead rescues Shianni from her oppressors. Or how Shianni's eventual role of helping the Grey Warden player character, which can be of any origin, relates to her sexual assault depicted earlier in the game.

What do you think?

Unfortunately so. Professional victims get taken super cereal by the media.

I also hear she's a consultant for Mirror's Edge 2. (Facedesk)

I do think this is a sensitive enough issue that its discussion will not go sanctioned in here, given how it leads to particular types of arguments.

That said, I do not hold her argumentations in high regard with her platitudes and sometimes eggregiously out-of-context arguments. She is not a solid foundation for productive discussions.

It's okay for movies to portray real world things, it's not okay for games. That's what I gathered.

Not to mention her plagiarism

I tend to make it a habit not to care about the opinions of non gamers when it comes to the subject of video games.

Only worth for bragging rights. Even then there's a 50% chance she'll bite your head off afterwards.

I think she had a video up once where she complained that Kanye West's Monster video was clarifying dead females. I was like what? The video was clearly going for a gothic and horror theme. It is all in the name!

She takes things out of context, completely blows it out of proportion and then adds her commentary.

1/10

These are the sort of videos they make you watch in North Korea repeatedly until you die.

If she actually enjoyed games and actually paid attention to the story, I might give her a grain of attention.

I don't like how she basically says there should be no depictions of violence or things done to women in video games, unless a person is handheld through the whole thing so they don't get morally confused.

Complaining about bad stuff happening to women, even if said bad stuff is done by clearly bad people and isn't glamorized but left ambiguous at most and vilified at least, is the opposite of critical thinking.

That would actually require interest in video games on her part. She's more interested in analyzing video games in the hopes that her research will be used in academia, even though much of her work doesn't meet any sort of standard academic rigor, is intellectually dishonest, and really just comes off as a half-assed research project at best.

I don't take anything seriously from women whose eyebrows look like they were painted on with a Sharpie marker.
