Relations between companions

I imagine for example that Iron Bull will have a grudge on Dorian in the beginning because qunari and the tervinter have been at war with each other for centuries.
But I also imagine that Varric and Sera are friends that can always laugh with each other and playing pranks on other.
What do you people think about this?
Ps: If there was already an topic about this, then i apologize.

its hard to gauge how the party members will react to each other, especially before playing the game. i do agree with you that the Iron Bull and Dorian won't be friendly with each other and probably argue if travel together. Varric and Sera friends, definitely. Varric pretty much friends with everyone. i think only Aveline and Fenris were the only ones who weren't super buddy buddy with varric. i imagine Cassandra and Blackwall will become friends, talk about being a soldier and such. Vivienne and Solas and Dorian might all discuss magic, that could be friendly or just a bunch of arguing mages. i'm thinking varric, sera, blackwall and dorian will definitely be the more friendly and laid back of the party members, the others are probably going to be very serious.

They've stated that Varric and Iron Bull won't get along with Varric carrying a grudge against the Qun and Iron Bull refusing to apologize for what he is.
They've also stated that the relationship between Iron Bull and Dorian is "interesting", noting the Qunari-Tevinter war would typically make them enemies, but that neither of them are typical examples of their respective cultures.

I agree with this, except for two points. I think Iron Bull will be friendly and easy going overall, except maybe with Dorian initially (edit: and apparently Varric based on what Former_Fiend just wrote)... they may learn to get along over time, but we'll see. I also have no idea what to think about Blackwall, but he seems very serious... maybe it's just his beard that makes him look angry, I dunno...

On the more positive side, Iron Bull does apparently get along well with Vivienne and at the very least has a nice professional relationship with Cassandra; they're described as "talking shop" over warrior stuff.
He also has a big-brotherish relationship with Cole, in a "You need a stiff drink and a loose woman" kind of way.

I actually would like Bioware to give the companions romance with the other companions if you do not romance them. I really loved that touch to DA2, it was really nice to hear about them interacting like that and gave the companions more independence (Carver and Merrill was the best imo).
Platonic relationships would be nice to have too, but I can't wait to see who gets paired up with who!

Didn't the writer of characters point out some relations between companions in their interviews? Let's see..
Cole: Sera and Vivienne dislike him. Iron Bull and Solas are friendly with him.
Solas: Doesn't get along with Vivienne and Iron Bull but likes Cole.
Dorian: Will have some kind of clash with Vivienne. Intresting relationship with Iron Bull (no idea what kind of intresting XD).
Cassandra: Gets along with Iron Bull and Vivienne. Also this but no info which one's these companions are: "there are also some characters with whom Cassandra very much does not get along".
Varric: " Varric will at least try to get along with most people in the Inquisition. People who are not Cassandra, anyway."
Blackwall: "There are definitely characters that Blackwall enjoys the company of more than others." No info who.
Iron Bull: Likes Cassandra, Vivienne and Cole. Some clash with Varric about Qunaris.
Advisors: Josephine and Leliana are old friends. Between them and Cullen there is respect but some "clash in philosophies" as well. Leliana has similar relationship with Cassandra as well: "It’s a little like Mom and Dad quarrelling behind closed doors, but presenting a united front to the kids. Same goes for Cullen."
I didn't quote whole things cause they are quite long but there is general idea.

Yeah I really liked that happening as well, although my favourite was Tali/Garrus in ME3. I think Dorian and Iron Bull will get along really well as long as they aren't talking about the Tevinter/Qunari war. I would love for them to get together if neither is romanced (and it was mentioned their relationship is 'interesting')
I'm looking forward to seeing how Varric gets along with most people, and especially his party banter with Cassandra, and the nicknames he comes up with for everyone as well.

I think the only "real" romance that went beyond flirting was Isabela and Fenris. And I was very possessive of Fenris. It bothered me that he only rejected her advances after you slept with him, even if you were in the 'interested' stage of his romance arc. I also didn't like Bethany flirting with Sebastian, but Hawke put a stop to that (then Bethany called her a lucky ******). I thought the Carver and Merrill thing was cute though, and Isabela flirting with Varric was cute. I only like it if the companion flirting is among characters my PC has no interest in. ![]()
Luckily in DA:I there are a lot of people I probably won't romance, so have at 'em NPCs.

Well, a team comprised of Cassandra, Varric and Sera was nicknamed 'Seeker's last nerve' by the devs, so one can assume that Sera and Cassandra will not get along.

This is not about romance and I know we have to see it first before we can judge this, but I was curious about what kind of relations your companions will have with each other.
There were many tweets about "teams", and based on that you can pretty much tell who will get along and who won't.
For example, it's been said that all three mages don't see eye to eye. That Vivienne and Sera have a big "ew" about Cole.
But some will get along just ok -
Solas/Caassandra/Cole - was called "team mutual respect". Bull/Dorian/Sera will get along through the humor, it's our "team yolo". Blackwall and Solas have a similar "kids these days" attitude sometimes, and Bull, Varrick and Solas also have a team "all humans are crazy".
And it's not all, of course, it's just what I remember.
So yeah, there will be "relations", and they will be complicated.

Hm... sounds like Cassandra doesn't get along with several characters. I'm not really looking forward to hearing a lot of bickering, so if she dislikes both Varric and Sera, I'm going to have to hope for the best with regard to Cole. Her and Vivienne on the same team sounded okay before I read any of this, but apparently Vivienne really doesn't like Cole. *sigh* Nothing's ever simple, is it? ![]()

Oh, that's good news then. I was hoping to use Solas, so that should work out nicely... This might even become my "alpha" team depending on Cole's performance.

I'm pretty sure it's Varric she's going to have the most trouble with. What with the hole "stabbing a book on his crotch" thing.

I'd be more concerned about the party in the sense that if you're gonna do something morally questionable, you should be prepared for that. I.e. Cass and Vivienne was ok in the demo with Inquisitor abandoning some villagers and Varric was upset pretty much.
So in the end it doesn't really matter how they interact with each other, what matters how they will react to your actions.
Also, Vivienne thinks that Cole should be "safely banished",while Sera refuses to speak with him and calls him "it". So it's up to debate how much they don't like him.

Yea it sounds like tricky thing to make balanced party where everyone gets along. I played DA2 with Fenris, Anders and Merrill as my main party and this time I'd like to have more positive group ^^;

Well, I admit that it probably didn't help their relationship... lol... I was working under the assumption that the two of them had put their differences aside, but I guess they don't necessarily have to get along if they share a common goal... now I'm curious as to why Varric is even interested in following her around. Maybe he's looking for Hawke?

Well, I'm not really worried about the companions disagreeing with me or even leaving if their approval gets too low... I'm primarily trying to avoid team-ups that result in endless squabbling like with Leliana and Morrigan, Anders and Fenris, or Fenris and Merrill. It just get annoying after a while having to listen to companions arguing all the time...

Wow... you're either brave or a masochist for traveling with that group.
I tended to play it safe with Aveline, Fenris, and Varric... it was pretty smooth sailing with this group, as far as banter was concerned...

It seems to me like we'll be changing our group more often in DA:I than in previous games. In DA:O & DA2, apparent from some companion questions & to hear additional bander, I pretty much settled into using the same group all the time, (who depended on The Warden's or Hawkes class)
In DA:I though there seems to be different quests designed with certain companions in mind, in the EA demo quest you didn't have to take Dorian along with you but doing so gave you additional options.
I can see myself switching party members depending on the quest or faction I'm dealing with, which is can only be a good thing.

I think they have some kind of love/hate relationship. Varric is more cocky and Cassandra is always serious and at some point, there can be a conflict between these two.
On the other hand, I saw in a leaked demo, where Crestwood village was burned by the Red Templars, that Cassandra placed her hand on Varric's shoulder, trying to comfort him.

They seem like the type who'd argue a lot, but get along in the times that really matter (like the above situation. And some little hints of that in their conversations in DA2).

As mentioned, Varric apparently hasn't entirely forgiven Cassandra for the whole, stabbing a book that was sitting on his lap, thing.
Of course, they might have meant that humorously.

Hopefully all their conflicts will lead to hilarious moments. That's what I loved about DAO banter, most of the arguing led to hilarious moments.
