Do spell protections like Spell Deflection, Spell Trap and Spell Turning only work against damage spells cast directly on the mage (AoE spells not cast directly on the mage seems to still damage them) or do they protect against spells from all schools?

Or does a spell like Breach bypass them completely?

I don't know the answer myself but checked in to see what the smart folks think, especially those beta testers, etc. out there.

Most spell protections only work against spells cast directly at the caster, though there are exceptions (like Globe of Invulnerability).  Note that you might expect from the spell description that something like Minor Spell Deflection would prevent damage if an area spell is directed at the protected person - but it won't.

All protections work against any type of spell with the exception of Spell Immunity where you choose the spell school you want to protect against.  Some protections only work on lower level spells though, e.g. Minor Spell Turning only affects spells of level 4 and below.

Breach does normally bypass spell protections, though the way it behaves can be greatly affected by any mods you have installed.

I tested it against the wraith in the trapped room of watcher's keep who casts Spell turning + PfMW and Breach didn't seem to be effective. But maybe it is because he changes form?

Haven't played BG2 in a while so I could be wrong. I think Spell turning actually prevented your breach from landing on your target, so you should have stripped off his spell turning first then casting breach. However, that all depended on what mods you have installed. For example: G3 BG2 fixpack fixed breach so that it could bypass magic protection. In the vanilla BG2, I think magic protection actually stopped breach. Again, my memory is fuzzy.

Spell protections do indeed stop breach in vanilla - you need to something like spell thrust or pierce magic to remove spell defenses, then cast breach.
