i don't know why, i don't know how, i just felt very much the need to share this here when i first saw it. because i read somewhere that Gaider was tired of defending/explain  the character from the negative feedback he used to receive back then from rabid and argumentative fans. so here i thought while waiting for DAI why not show some positive love to the devs in the name of all the anders fandom site ect :) (also because i learned that hawke can call anders 'baby' in legacy if sarcastic enough and in rivalmance and thats soo not fair cause i can't bear rivalmance him !!)

This  perfection in its slightest details from the buises to the pout, is what happen when you love a character ; love him and his whole history ; and i love Anders so much, from the day he was dragged away in chains from his mom till the day he turned aroud with hawke from the battlefield and left, and everything in bettween.

So to whoever wrote and designed his character, you have my eternal admiration. Anders inspire me and keep inspire me and i really hope i'll see him in the next game cause i need to know if his hair are longer by now ~~

I am surprised there has been no replies to this! Where's some Anders love :)
This is a super well written character who easily stepped into my top10. Love everything from all sarcastic, cat-snuggling Anders before Justice, to post-Justice Anders. The gradual character change, the idea was brilliant. His actions have surprised me, made me want to ask "Why didn't you talk to me about this beforehand?" - and you know a character is well-done when he calls out a real emotion in you! I haven't had that in a while, but it easily happened with Anders. I only found out about him in the second game, but then I jumped back to Awakening because I knew there's more Anders <3 He who made the character should feel proud, as Anders is a damn amazing combination of awesome personality and good looks. I don't really like bright-haired guys, but I fell for Anders. Kudos to his designer as well, that means :D

you know i prefer the thread be silent like that rather than polluted with ignorant bashing. After all its mostly meant simply as a feel gift for Bioware guys who made him and as i was reading some awesome fanfic i couldnt help myself !. sadly and strangely !, there aren't many fans of him in here though when i see the numbers of tumblrs and fandoms and web sites and fanfics and fan arts about him !!! it makes me think more than half the Dragons age players are not bothering to be here ! and they're sadly the most sensitive and deep inspired ones by the games.

Thats mostly why i bothered myself to just speak of him out of the blue ! because there isnt half the love here that is outside the forum !

But thanks for the sweet comment ! so here some cat-snuggling !! (the day i found this made up for all the shitty days i ever had lol)

ps: i love your signature words ! so rare in here ! and don't worry am sure Anders would be coming back. He'll be right beside Hawke maybe fingers interwined ;)

Anders is one of the best-written, tragic, and likable characters in DA2.

I'm one of his killers.

But I consider him my Hawke's closest friend and ditto for the Warden.

It's a well-written tragedy.

And I'm sorry that Gaider has gotten some vitriol.

He's certainly tragic and likable to a point.

But I wouldn't go as far as to consider him the best character in the game.

I'd give that reward to someone like Varric or the Arishok.

Why's that?

he is a tragic and blessed character in the same time but he never deserved to die and because explaining that will only fall on mind up minds.

In my World State, Anders is alive and (sort of!) well, and he and my female Hawke are together.  I don't feel the need to apoligise for that, or to explain why.  As someone once said to me, one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter'.  That's why there will always be conflict about DA2 Anders.  No point in stoking the hostility again!  ;)

While I wouldn't crown Anders the best character in the second game (Varric steals the spot - first time EVER in a videogame I see a dwarf that I really like and want to keep around because he's not all about alcohol and nugs! :D ) - he leaves a lasting impression. Definitely not for everyone, because there are so many people saying he was bitchy and all - they don't really have the patience to analyse the personalities. But for me there was something about that guy. From the love for cats, to joining with spirits, to stepping against the system no matter how much torture and pain he'd get out of that. And of course the chantry thing, which makes me both really enraged at Anders but at the same time I can't bring myself to kill him - sometimes just because of how poorly made and emotionless his execution scene is. He's definitely a chaotic good, and his ideas aren't exactly how I would deal with the mage-templar war, but I love this character and always will :)

Anders is the most interesting man in Dragon Age. I just hope whether he's alive or dead that he gets a few mentions in DAI.

i hope i'll see him ! more than just talks about him ! i really got the hope that now that Hawke is confirmed ,he'll be and appear with him ! after all, varric says in the end that all left the champion side but Anders ! they stayed together <3. Weither they building an army, freeing the circle mages, explosing more chantry or just living a peacefull live hidden somewhere , they're together and its all that matter.

Gaider did not write Anders in DA2, it was Hepler.

No offense, but if Anders was intended to be an ambiguous and sympathetic figure then (IMO) she failed. Only way I can imagine anyone finding Anders morally ambiguous is if they support his views already. Anything short of that, though, and he will only come across as a madman (and maybe even if you do agree with him).

Yeah I felt sorry for what Hepler went through but damn I disagreed with her on a whole bunch of stuff.

Button to skip gameplay? God damn what a stupid thing to say.

Anders being likeable? We're talking about the same Anders that gets an approval rating when you give Fenris back to Danarius right? What a hypocrite character.

Despite that, she wrote the whole Orzammar arc in DA:O which was extremely good IIRC, so props to her for that.

Anders is by far my least favorite character in the franchise. Merrill is a close second.

Define "ruin". Gaider set him to do the chantry thing and most major things that he does. Hepler did romance, dialogue and other similar stuff.

Thanks Gaider and/or Hepler for allowing Anders to slightly redeem himself through slaughtering Mages.

Are you serious? What a colossal douche.

Ahh that explains the cringe-worthy romance.

That depends on how you look at it. Anders' romance is the most real one out there because the other three worship Hawke and don't mind anything. For example if you offer Fenris to Danarius then change your mind, Fenris is like "Yeah ok, no biggy, ~french kiss". Its just so fake. Anders romance has many dramatic points and there are some red lines that if you pass Anders will end romance regardless of anything else such as making a deal with a demon.

It's probably thanks to the influence of Justice, who doesn't ascribe to the same morals the way humans do.

I don't think so, since there are few things less just than slavery. After all he and Anders think the Circles are slavery and want to stop those, and yet don't care if a person is taken into actual slavery? No, Anders approving of that action is Anders, not Justice.

Personally, I felt like the going the split-personality route with Anders weakened his character pretty severely.  If they'd just made him 100% abomination, it would in a lot of ways justify his somewhat flat characterization (since even his "Anders" personality is closer to Justice from Awakening than to Anders there, and it makes sense for a Fade spirit to be somewhat one-dimeonsional) while at the same time being a lot more insight into the effects the transformation has on a mage (since with Wynne, we never really got a chance to explore it, and most of the other Abominations have been a little too evil to get much screen time before their deaths).

It also makes his characterizations a little inconsistent, since in the early parts of the game, he makes it clear that there's really no difference between him and Justice...yet then we get these dramatic shifts when he's "only" Justice, but there's never really a point when he's "only" Anders (unless you rival him, and even then, it comes off sounding more like an excuse).

It's a shame, really, I feel like he ended up with the most wasted potential of all of the DA2 companions, and thus I generally find myself annoyed by him, since even though I can absolutely see the gold that's buried in his character, it never really comes to the surface.
