Your enemies also change, since each scenario pits you against one of three factions: Demons, Venatori, or Red Templars

http://www.gameinfor...ultiplayer.aspx

This actually bothers me a bit. It was pretty clear that DAI would have multiplayer following in the footsteps of ME3 because it seemed enemies were being handled the same way: there were distinct factions of enemies that clearly had different "ranks" of NPCs to fight, like how the Cerberus Troops progressed from basic dudes up to Atlas Mechs, so did the red templars go from regular dudes to those big hulking crystal guys. I'm worried, though, that if these are the only three NPC factions in the multiplayer, they will also be the only enemy factions in singleplayer. ME3, for instance, didn't have any mercenaries despite them being a huge part of ME2's gameplay. I'm worried that the single player won't have, say, a Darkspawn faction or your bog-standard wolves and bears running around to kill.

We've had it confirmed that random bears etc are part of the game.

They've already said Darkspawn will be in the game

Anyone have that old picture of the guy standing by the poster with all the different enemy types by chance? Someone has to know what I'm talking about.

If you watch the gameplay demos, you'll see enemies other than those three factions mentioned. There are bears and dragons, lizard-like creatures, undead...

We've seen a larger variety of enemies in the singleplayer demos. There are Avvar, undead, wild animals. Darkspawn are confirmed, and bandits are mentioned to appear in certain areas. The factions in the multiplayer were likely chosen because they are directly opposed to the Inquisition no matter what. It may be that we get another faction added in down the line, like what happened with the Collectors in ME3 MP.

The variety of demons and monstrous creatures and such all looks to be fairly typical for a DA game.

It was one of the primary worries I had about multiplayer support (ME3 suffered from having only balanced enemy "factions" that were clearly designed for multiplayer horde mode above all), but all the gameplay demos suggest that we'll have a good variety of enemies (including hostile wildlife, darkspawn, undead, and no doubt bandits and spiders and dragons and spirits galore).

I've always hated being attacked by wildlife that isn't enslaved to some supernatural force... animals don't just attack people like that.

We've seen some Avvar enemies in SP, and they aren't part of any of those factions

Creature factions aren't something new in games, even without multiplayer. I think the factions that DAMP uses are supposed to be the direct antagonist factions, those which oppose the Inquisition. Bears and Wolves aren't plotting at some end of Thedas to bring down our organization. At least I hope not.

In addition to Venatori, Red Templar and Demons we've seen:

Regular Templars

Mages

Undead (? Only one type so far I think)

Dragonkin

Predators (Bears, wolves and Trolls)

Prey (Nugs, Fennec, etc)

Avvar

Did I miss any?

People get attacked by Mountain Lions and Bears all the time out here. So I don't know what planet you hail from.

I laughed about it, because David made a comment about randomly hostile wildlife way back when ("You won't be attacked by feral badgers or anything").

Times change. Gird your loins 'gainst the feral badgers of Ferelden.

...Except they do? Usually not without reason, but if a person is encroaching on their territory and they feel threatened by that, whether out of a need to protect their young/themselves or out of a show of dominance, animals do in fact attack people in real life. Even little stuff that you would think are entirely non-threatening, like geese or squirrels, attack people. I have first-hand experience of that...

My thoughts: I think the Red Templars, Venatori and Demons are the "big bads" and thus they're highlighting them the most.  These are the guys who are actively threatening the world at large & thus we will be focused on destroying/dismantling them.

The other enemies - bandits, dragons, undead, wild animals, Darkspawn, random mages, random templars, etc - are present, but not as story-essential factions with plans to overthrow the Inquisition.

there are likely to be many enemies in the single player game that don't make good multiplayer 'factions'.

@Deflagratio: Well, I do live in civilization, but what's "all the time".  I'll have to pull up numbers of bear attacks and mountain lion attacks.

An adult goose is strong enough to break a human's arm.  No matter how docile they may appear, it's best to avoid them if possible.

edit:  As for the actual topic... um... well, we've seen a lot of variety in the gameplay demos, and those only covered a fraction of the total game, so I'm not that worried.  I'm sure we'll also face a variety of foes, including hostile Dalish, Orlesian soldiers, bandits, Tal-Vashoth, etc...

Hahah!

Geese have always, ever since I was little, have bitten me on the butt. Even now, if I am near any sort of goose, I make sure to cover my butt.
They bruise.

As for squirrels, I was in British Columbia on holiday, and came across a squirrel sitting on a stump with a nut. I say hello to it (I like animals) and it turns it's back on me.
Laughing at being snubbed by a little rodent, I continue to admire said rodent.
Well didn't I get a scalding. It screeched at me, did a little ferret-like war dance and then ran off with its nut.

I love nature......even if it may not love me :(

The bears will have no choice when I come charging at them. My inquisitor or Random McKnifey rogue will wear all the fur coats!

I once got chased through a park by a flock of angry pheasants. Had to vault into the intracoastal waters at land's end to escape from whatever foul end the fowl had planned for me.

My point is, pheasants are fierce. If Inquisition has pheasants, it will not be pleasant.

I am really not worried about the types of enemy we are going to face. I have a feeling we are going to have to many different ones to deal with. It isn't as cut and dry as DA:O or DA2 on who the real enemy is to your Inquisition. Sure there is one big bad but it seems like there is more factions rallied around the globe to shake a stick at and hit someone different each time.

So they'll either attempt to devour our Inquisitor or implode the second they can smell us? lol

They're better be some bandits to kill. It ain't an RPG without stupid bandits thinking they can kill a team full of monster killers.

Can I be the first to call a Darkspawn multiplayer DLC?

Don't care if too late actually, CALLED IT.
