There. I did it. I went back to Awakening, got a good supply of runes, unequipped some good stuff (like Armour of the Sentinel for Brogan to use) and bought up all the health poultices and stamina droughts I could find. I cut my way through Amgarrak to face the Harvester again, and spent several hours last night and this morning charging, dying and reloading. I never respecced the dwarves, but when Jerrik leveled I gave him accuracy and the Chasind Arm, and that helped whittle down the Harvester a bit quicker, though he always wound up switching to two blades to finish the job. I kept getting to the second phase but then dying to the swarms of skellies that appeared even if I managed to pull the switch right after the change of phase. When I finally managed to kill the Harvester head, it was, appropriately enough, Jerrik, Brogan and Snug who did him in. Right until the end it seemed like I'd be spending the rest of my days doing this, so it feels like it was me personally who escaped with my life! This must be the hardest thing I've ever attempted in a computer game.

Congratulations! Soak up that achievement - you've pretty much mounted the peak of difficulty in the DA series so far (there are tough encounters in DA2, but no achievements which require you to complete then on a high difficulty setting).

Thanks! I'm actually not pursuing achievements, I just want to get the most out of this game. Overcoming challenges is a big part of that. So I'll probably play all those other fights on nightmare w/o pausing too

 

Though, it doesn't make me look forward particularly to a second playthrough of Amgarrak.

I just did this for the first time myself yesterday. I'm pretty proud but to be honest it was mostly luck. I was playing as an arcane warrior, had the dwarves respecced to archers, and used my animated dead and the bronto to keep threat away from them. The luck came when all but 1 of the spawned minions came in as normal enemies with only one elite.So it was pretty ease to just wail on the harvester until it died. With two high level archers doing damage, it didn't even take very long.

 

I might try a nightmare playthrough of it when my midterms are done, because I was looking forward to the challenge but didn't get any.
