Do you believe companions will become pals?

I've just been thinking of some of the concept art and to me it looks like your companions get along. I wonder how that's going to work out though. How would someone who believes in mage freedom get along with someone that wants to lock them in a building somewhere and never let them out? It seems quite likely that the current crisis is such an all consuming concern that such things simply fall away.

So do you think your companions are going to get along? Perhaps they could need some help. Like Tali and Legion. Though I suppose there is a chance they'd be like Miranda and Jack.

If you don't believe they'll be able to get along where do you expect the most friction? Two that might very well try to murder one another if the Inquisitor wasn't around to break up the fight.

The developer blogs for each character gave hints about who would and wouldn't clash. Varric is rumored to have issues with Cassandra, Sera won't speak to Cole. My hope is you can settle the differences by the end of it, but it's not like Morrigan and Alistair ever made up and got along.

They better be getting along, that is one thing I did not like in DA2 how almost everyone fighting, especially Fenris and Anders....you would think after 7 years those two would meet common grounds!

But all I want is that the companions (and advisers) will see eye to eye and accept each other and work together! If not....that Keep looks like a long drop.

I don't think we'll see the kind of clashing viewpoints that DA2 had. I don't see anyone getting in fights because once again, there's a greater goal to work towards. Unless Blackwall is secretly very anti-mage, I'm not anticipating much conflict.

The most I can think of is people being wary of Dorian for being from Tevinter or Cass/Cullen/Blackwall at times not appreciating the less serious personalities of Iron Bull and Sera.

Cole might raise red flags for Cullen and Cass.

As for Cass and Varric not getting along, I got the impression that by the end of his interrogation in DA2 they came to more of an understanding. I guess he's still a bit miffed though.

It's inevitable.

Sera dislikes Casper, and doesn't want to talk with him at all. They'd never have companions that have little to no banter (because it's a rule... or something) so what will happen is they'll start off antagonistic, then she'll warm up to him, and then they'll end up besties.

Unless he does go full Anders and ruins everything.

See, I got that impression from Varric in DA2 as well, but all indications are he's holding a grudge? I dunno, hopefully it will make sense in-game.

We've heard some titbits about how the companions do or don't get on.

- Varric tries to get along with most people, but is apparently still bitter over the whole kidnapping and interrogation thing with Cassandra. He also has some tension with Iron Bull because of the Qunari invasion.

- On the other hand, Cassandra and Bull like to 'talk shop' about warrior stuff, so they seem to get on. She's apparently exasperated by Sera.

- Vivienne wants Cole safely banished, and Sera refuses to even talk to him. He and Solas are friends, though, and apparently Iron Bull is also surprisingly cool with having a spirit/demon in the party.

- Vivienne and Bull get along. Vivienne and Dorian are apparently the Statler and Waldorf of Thedas.

- Iron Bull wants to throw Sera into battle. She does not approve, in spite of the maaaaaayhem potential.

... aaaaaand that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Need to find the most disfunctional group possible...

viv/cole seems the easiest starting point. Then need to find someone else the don't like.
or is there only 1 friend and 1 rivalry per character?

...Maybe Sera? I don't know how her and Vivienne are but I know she hates Cole.

I don't think they will be buddy buddy by the end, they've said you can mess up and cause someone to leave by certain decisions or reactions, that could also mean responding to favorably with one companion that another hates. I think at most they will get a grudging tolerance for being around each other and slight respect.

...and everybody just kinda steers clear of Blackwall.

Seriously though thanks for this list.  It will help a lot.

i'm pretty sure we have a thread on this already, i'm pretty sure cause i commented on it. but to answer your post i think some of them will become friends, i don't know if we'll see them change their views on things like the characters in mass effect, but still friendships can grow even still. there was plenty in dragonage 2 even though not every character agreed with the others about certain subjects.

Yeah, we've heard very little about how he interacts with the other companions. I figure it's all part of his Grey Warden mystique, along with not knowing the name of his voice actor and whether or not the Inquisitor can bone him.

I'll have to give that a try. Probably end up fighting each other instead of demons. Could be fun.

They'll get along or I will have to correct them with a Warhammer! Seriously though more than likely there will be a couple of them I am sure get along just fine, not sure who the Oghren of the group will be though (the one no one likes) Maybe Raging Bull or whatever his name is.

I'm sure some of them will be BFFs while others will want to tear each other's throats out. I'm also curious to see the extent to which your companions will interact with the advisors.

Slightly skewing the topic in the most BSN way possible, will they develop romances in the manner suggested of Isabela and Fenris? Is it possible, given how many of them are romanceable by the Inquisitor? Would you be ok with it if it happens?

I wonder if they can hate you at all . One thing that always bugged me with the companions system . Is that , it seemed like you had to say what they wanted to hear , and the whole -10000 Dissaprove was meaningless .

Heck I want to feel it real for once .

As for the companions being pals? Hum I say they maybe and hopefully none will waltz out of your party with your loot ( like some did in BG2) .

And if they dont....I say get pop corn ready

Well, I don't know about them stealing your stuff, but David Gaider said that almost all of them were dismissable, so maybe?

@DragonKingReborn: Dismissable usualy mean you can dismiss them and then pick them up somewhere else when you need them . Like in DA2 if you take Bela and Varric , everyone else is in another location waiting to be picked up .

But if they leave for good.....eeeek! I doubt they would leave for good , but if they do...I may just go back to the old trick 'Carry everything yourself so none waltz with your loot' .

He was responding to a query about being able to kill the companions, so, in this instance...definitely means permanently dismissable.

If you dismiss them, then they're really gone. I think we don't know if they can leave on their own.

I am sure it will be pretty much like how they did it in DA:O and DA2. It worked very well in those games, for sure.

I wonder if their personal feelings towards each other could effect certain missions. Lets say Varric and Cassandra get into an argument that alerts near by enemies to our position making the fight "harder". That would be cool as a consequence of bringing them with you in the party and also give the inquisitor the option to scold them afterwards lol.

I will be completely ok if companions with radically opposing views never fully get along.   To me, that's far more realistic than them buddying up.    Common enemies can overcome some things, of course.   Anders and Fenris, for instance, would never be 'friends'.
