Are you sure? You brought up "gender-swapping" twice... when there's no gender-swapping at all going on here.

I said it would be a simple thing to do and that it would have been the reasonable thing to do.

Useful? Gender quotas? Come on.

Were you on the BSN during MP and its heyday?

There was nonstop complaints about how people "needed" female Turians, Batarians, Salarians, Drell, etc because otherwise BioWare was being insensitive and "didn't care about their playerbase" and other nonsense.

Also, there is literally not a single unique model for any of the ME3 multiplayer characters. To say that the asset recycling started at the Earth DLC is to be either 100% wrong, or 100% dishonest.

That's not strictly true. As I mentioned before, there were things which got pulled and still have not been released and instead showed up in the Earth DLC as part of the Demolisher character and a few others.

The reason why I say that it "started with the Earth DLC" is because prior to that, whenever we got a character there was something about them which was not part of the existing assets. Whether it was skills that were added or something, it was new and interesting.

So we know 11 out of 12 characters.  And now we know four of their names.

Human males - Hall (Archer), Elementalist

Human females - Tamar (Reaver), Templar, Argent (Assassin), Necromancer

Elf females - Keeper

Dwarf males - Korbin (Legionnaire)

Dwarf females - Alchemist

Qunari males - Katari

Then there's the Arcane Warrior, who will probably be a male, but we don't his race.

And there's the unknown rogue.  I'm expecting it to be a guy who is ranged spec'd.

Another way to look at it:

Warriors - Korbin (Legionnaire), Tamar (Reaver), Katari, and Templar

Rogues - Hall (Archer), Argent (Assassin), Alchemist

Mages - Arcane Warrior, Elementalist, Keeper, Necromancer

It seems to be going 1:1 for gender and role.

They have Tamar and the Katari as 2h, Templar and Korbin as 1h/shield.

And then they have Argent as melee and Hall as ranged but both are likely to be very high damage dealers right off the bat with no gadgets or things of that nature. A bit of guesswork on the Alchemist is that she will be melee but with gadgets/poisons, so expect the last Rogue to be similar.

Not sure how the Mages are going to work but it could be interesting if the Arcane Warrior is a 'mirror' of the Keeper and has unique buffs.

I said it would be a simple thing to do and that it would have been the reasonable thing to do.

Try to keep up if you want to have a discussion like grown-ups, please.

Oh, everyone here is keeping up just fine, it's just that your hypocrisy is very confusing to work out. When people complain about not having female versions of ME3 multiplayer characters, it's "unnecessary" and "nonsense". But god forbid there's a class you want to play and it doesn't come in male. Now we're all for the gender toggles.

You and the hypothetical people you're complaining about are pretty much two sides of the same coin.

The reason why I say that it "started with the Earth DLC" is because prior to that, whenever we got a character there was something about them which was not part of the existing assets. Whether it was skills that were added or something, it was new and interesting.

What.

So you're blaming Bioware's apparent inability to keep DLC characters fresh & exciting on a gender quota? I mean, you're not even correct about the added skills, unless you'd like to argue that omni-shield mechanics, annihilation field, omni-crossbows, biotic hammers, giant characters, seeker swarm etc. already existed in the multiplayer in some form (and again, what would any of that have to do with a gender quota?). You're just lying through your teeth.

Quite frankly this whole thing suggests that these characters might have been intended to be extra companions but were cut to instead be MP characters.

Oh please. There's no way Inquisition was originally going to have 24 companion characters.

You can read right? Or did you just pick the "unnecessary nonsense" part and run with it?

You can read right? Right? Like actually comprehend what you read?

As much as I would like to have as many companions as possible, 24, even if it was just at the planning stage just sounds implausible (ok maybe 17-18 was a possibility). Could you image how much more resource Bioware has to spend on making those extra companions? ea will never allow it.

Drell, Salarians, Batarians, and Krogan?
There is, according to BioWare, no physical differences between the two genders in those species.
None.

We've seen a Drell female in the comics. You'd think titays would count as a physical difference.

As for the Batarians, I am not aware of any official statement regarding sexual dimorphism.

I'm saying that they should have done the SMART thing and made it so that there was a balancing option for the gender on the Earth characters. Post-Earth, they went off the rails with the whole "female" thing. Or were you not aware that one of the selling points of a bloody main character in the Omega DLC was that "She's the first female Turian we've shown ingame"?

Why wouldn't that be a big deal? You'd think one would have appeared sooner, what with being from a race with a gender-neutral military and government.

... Which has nothing to do with multiplayer anyway. But yeah, they absolutely went off the rails. We were positively drowning in those post-Earth female characters... all four of them.

For all intents and purposes, we are getting more Companions added to the game but no access to them in SP.

Yes, because a character with only one skill tree, and no dialogue outside of banter in the field is a companion.

Out of respect for the OP, maybe we could all be civil and keep on topic, or take this debate into another thread.

By the way, thanks for all the hard work in compiling all this information, Tarkov33!

Here's hoping we get more MP reveals today!

I'm dying to hear about the Alchemist's, Katari's, and Necromancer's backstories (and Templar, too, I guess, but I'm less interested in her).  Plus, I'd love to see a picture of the Arcane Warrior.  And, there's still a rogue class that is unrevealed.  So much to learn still.

so twelve characters at launch, how many are Bioware planning to add?

Hmm, I don't like the implications of the promotion bonus. Unless it takes a lot longer to level up than in ME3 we're probably going to get people with massive amounts of HP, Rogues with a ton of bonus Cunning (I don't know if they've stated what exactly Cunning will affect this time but if it's like DA2, then...), and mages who can cast for days.

If new maps/dungeons are added, will they have to be balanced with this possibility in mind?

one thing is sure: i won't choose the rogues, unless alchemist is dagna... still twin daggers... no use

I don't think that the Alchemist is Dagna.  For one thing, Dagna is called an "artificer" in the game, not an alchemist.  For another, outside of being a redhead lady dwarf, I don't see much of a resemblance between the Alchemist and Dagna.

Promotions will most likely allow for higher difficulty levels, or it will be negligible.  So respectively that means either multiple promotions will be required before the highest difficulties are playable, or the people who play more are going to have slightly better characters than those that play less.  Both options I am fine with.

Also, Gamespot article from Pax yesterday "four-things-i-learned-about-dragon-age-inquisition"

This promotion bonus is a concern for me as well.  I've stated this before elsewhere but I expect there to be a cap (even if it's a soft cap) to the extra attribute points a character can gain from promoting.  And hopefully, reaching that cap will not be a necessity for high level play but a nice little bonus.  If the lack of added attribute points can be made up for with skilled play then it's cool.  Otherwise I'll be annoyed but I'll get it done.

He might not be too far off the mark. The writers probably came up with a bunch of companion ideas and the 9 we get in singleplayer are the ones they liked best. The great thing about this multiplayer mode is that they can take some of their other ideas for characters and say "Well, let's make them a multiplayer character because I like the idea".

The Arcane Warrior almost looks like he should be living in Menzoberranzan (a drow city in D & D).  He's got greyish skin and white hair.
