I hated that in DA2 and Origins where when you visit your companions they are just standing around.
In DAI I hope they can actually DO something other than standing like statues.

While I don't think they will constantly be walking around, it would be cool if like in Mass Effect 3 they were in different rooms doing things like talking to other followers after each mission.
Yes , that would be cool.
I don't mind companions standing around, but having them move around would make them seem a bit more lifelike... until you memorize their pattern, at least. Something like the Fallout 3/New Vegas/Oblivion/Skyrim behavior schedules would be great, but I don't think DA:I's world is that detailed... will there even be a day and night cycle? It would be nice to see companions, advisors, and NPCs going about their daily business in Skyhold, but if it's limited to them walking back and forth or repeatedly performing a couple of basic tasks within a single room, that might not be impressive enough to be worthwhile...
They could actualy have a navigation point . If they stay in the keep and this keep seemed to be large , they could walk around the keep . Maybe from say a Library room to the war room . Or maybe have some companions stay in differents area of the keep instead of having them all standing about in the same room just waiting for you all day long .
Something like the Fallout 3/New Vegas/Oblivion/Skyrim
And Gothic serie! Don't forget that one ! Made them seem alive ![]()
It may make it more lifelike, but at the same time annoying especially if the protagonist has to go looking for them in the keep or wait for them to come back to the room. Even if you could remember all the companion's walk patterns it can become tedious.
If the companion's start walking around or doing things in the room when the Inquisitor enters that would be good..

Have you played any games from the Hitman series? This problem could be solved if DA:I incorporated real-time NPC icons on the indoor level map. All we'd need to have is a moving circle with their name in small text underneath so that we could check their current location and where they are headed if they're moving around.
Yea, walking around, talking to other companions, other inquisitor people, practicing their combat skills or archery practice or blasting some spells, standing guard or just standing on the battlements looking over the grounds would be cool.
What would be nice is like having a person you can go to at the keep and say "where is Varric?" "In the tavern inquisitor" then a icon on the mini map showing you where.
Yes, that is what I would like...alas, it maybe too late now...unless we pray to the Maker (Bioware)
I suspect that companions will move around the Skyhold in a similar way to how the moved around the Normandy in ME3. They'll have certain places that are considered their 'home base' in Skyhold but every so often will come across them in the pub or marketplace chatting.
This was a small touch in ME3 but I loved it, coming across Ashley lying on the floor hungover with James in the kitchen making her eggs was brilliant.

This is possible if you limit the radius in which they can move. Maybe an addition of dialogue between the character and random npcs but that would probably be too much work for bioware.
The best way is to give them rooms by the keep and have the character interact with those companions there
When you take it out from its context anything can be defined as a random rant (just look on your post now, what has that even to do in here unless you postfarm?), but if you re-read my answer you see the illustrative example I give. Hopefully you'll have 1000 posts soon so keep farming!
Totally agree. If they must be idle, at least give them a chair to sit on!
I felt really bad for my mother having to stand for such a long time, even with a chair right there next to her. Same with Gamlen...not that anyone should care about him.
But yes, Bioware, be practical about how you position NPC's! We notice.
I hated the whole ''search the ship up and down to find a specific companion'' thing in ME3, so I hope they'll just be standing idly at the spot where I'm expecting them to be. I know the world is fake, I don't need the illusion that they were doing anything before I showed up to talk.

You didn't really have to search the ship, the map told you were they were and there were only a few places were they moved to,normally either the bar or the kitchen.
I actually think it would be cool if I had a personal page who I could say: "Run along and fetch the Iron Bull." Then, a moment later he arrives at my offices (or throne room - whatever)

I solemnly swear I am up to no good?

This. When i was Tali and Garrus in a room I was like: oooooh what are you two doing
Anyway. I hope they at least do something and not just stand there. I imagine Varric and Sera playing diamond back or something.
I don't mind them standing and staring, but it's weird when every single one of your companions is in the same room, all standing and staring, facing one another - ala Awakening.
I like the Denerim estate where everyone has their own place.
I would like them to be doing something too. You don't even need to click on them. If you open their door, you catch them in the middle of something, and they talk to you.

Unless it's embarrassing for them
