Great... first heavy rain+ wkc release on the 24th february which will make gamers play that until march... then

Final Fantasy XIII,Yakuza 3,God of War III and this expansion...release in March.

there is a month called "April".... I would suggest bioware to delay the DLC for the ps3-version until April, just a tip.

me? I bought DAO for 360 and pc.
But I also own a ps3, and it would be wrong to think this doesnt sell on the ps3 just because nobody with a right mind on their ps3 would actually pay for this expansion when they can play some games they waited years for.

That's good to know. The people that want to play those games can play them, and maybe buy this expansion later.

Just because there's other games coming out at the same time doesn't mean this one won't be bought.

yeah, and I forgot to add, both WKC and HEAVY RAIN will release 24th feb, so its even more competition.
but your right, people can buy it later (and should) however, EA once again live in a fantasy bubble and release their dlc's on very weird times.

Doesn't White Knight come out earlier in Feburary? Like the 9th or something? I'm probably getting White Knight, though I'm not sure, I hate anime art styles. I'm getting Heavy Rain and GoW3 the day they come out. And I'm also getting Awakenings the day it comes out for PS3. FF13....I'm waiting until I can get it for $20, so that's not an issue. It's a bit of money to spend in a short amount of time, but after I own those games, I don't know of anything else I'll be buying except Super Street Fighter 4 until RAGE comes out, which I'm GREATLY looking forward to and then Mortal Kombat 9 will be out around Christmas. Those are all the games I plan to buy this year right now, though who knows what surprises the Fall will hold?

Honestly, while the earlier the better, commercially speaking, I don't know kind of crazyness pushed Bioware into releasing it in march. Seriously, it's an EXTREMELY overcrowded period for the gaming market and everyone is releasing stuff then, and continuing to announce new stuff actually.

Whiel I will buy the expansion as soon as possible, I can't help being worried. Such an overcrowded market will for sure make for less sales, at least initially. I really hope it won't damage the franchise on the long run.

The bad thing is that it's not even just console. Even Silent Hunter 5 is coming out in march, and that's a pretty much anticipated game to the PC community. Personally i've been waiting for it and it's lovely dinamic campaign quite eagerly.

Aside from the newest FF installment, I agree with the sentiments expressed above.

It doesnt matter what "you" think about games like FF, it still sells 5-10 million copies each (on a single plattform so far)

Im just giving a warning, I doubt very much any ps3 owner will buy Heavy Rain the 24th, then God of war 3 and FF13 and the expansion. Or do anyone here think ps3 owners bought a ps3 just to play Dragon Age?

And, while DAO isnt a ps3 exclusive obvious, people like myself with a ps3,xbox360 and pc is sure as hell not gonna pay for an expansion in march, when these games are out.
Im not bashing Bioware, just giving them a warning, dont be suprised if march is a no-buyer for many gamers....

Gran Turismo 5 luckily got delayed, probably by SONY, who wise up realising that heavy rain,gow3,ff13 and gt5 will just compete vs each other.
Yes, hardcore gamers always get the game they want at release, but 3-4? around 30-40 days slot? no.

Im not saying they "HAVE" to, calm down kiddo.
I'm just saying, when its March and they doesnt get any buyers, I hope they will realise "WHY".
k? simple enough for you kiddo? And please, many ps3 owners have a 360 or a pc.
Or do you think people who afforded a ps3 at launch with a new HDTV doesnt have a PC? thats what you think?:P

Very true. As the reaction to of October-November 2009, we have a very crowded March. It is important to think that people who buy February releases might still be playing them in March, which means more delayed sales. Why is this bad? Because of IR and the gaming media being focused on "Day one sales", "First week sales" and up to "10 Week sales". After that nobody seems to keep valid track of sustained sales, which means less positive PR, therefore less investment for future projects.

You do realize though that none of those games listed can really be considered a traditional competitor which is what companies look at. Every game you listed is targeting a completely different genre and a completely different market base. They'll lose out on a few sales sure, but not as much as if they were competing against a game targeting the same genre and audience as they are.

The only other title I have interest in is FFXIII, so this doesn't bother me in the least. Even if it did, all I would have to do is wait a month or two. I'm not gonna die if I don't get a game on the day of release.

@TheMadCat

That would depend on your segmentation, and if they are focusing their release by targeting only the old-style core of their market then they are making a mistake. Modern console gamers are not divided by preferred genre or age, they are better clustered by social circle and exposure (aka hype). For that reason, someone who bought DA:O will also be found playing GoW, and can be awaiting for both and have to chose.

Excuse me, but this is completely untrue marketing-wise.
Most gamers like more than one genre, and purchase games from multiple genres. Unless it's completely detached targets (like, say, DS games of the Imagine series), all games that appeal to the same demographics (age and gender-wise)  are competitor to each others, since they compete for the limited "gaming time" each gamer has. That gaming time can and most of the times will be filled with multiple genres, and very few gamers buy more games that they can afford to play time-wise.

So yeah, releasing a game in a most crowded period is not a good idea. It doesn't matter if there's no other western RPG released in the same timeframe. It will still conflict with the other games, since gamers have overlapping interests.

FF is over rated bcause of FF7. They still hope a great game will come out from that series.
