Could we not be forced to wait until end-game to get the really cool outfits this time around?

It's probably too late to mention this now, considering the game releases in November but...I hated how in DA2-if you were playing as a mage for instance-you looked like a hobo with slightly better fashion sense for 80% of the game.  Then, along comes Act 3 and then FINALLY you get the Champions Mantle.  Finally you get to look like the badass you've always wanted to.  In other words, I'm hoping the loot system isn't leveled in this game.  Is it?  I never got that memo.  Defeats the bloody purpose of loot if you ask me.  I don't even know how robust the loot system is in this game.

And I'm not saying I don't want to have to earn it.  Just....let me earn it a little...earlier in the game?

You must have missed the Raiders on the Cliffs quest in Act 2. If you'd completed that you'd know that the Robe of the Notorious Pirate is the best mage armor in the game. It's the height of apostate fashion.

Probably some days after DA:I is release there will be a way to access the console to edit outfits. Later down the road there will be savegame editors and mods (just like for DA:O and DA2...), don't worry!

Weird, the champion's armor sets were among the few I DIDN'T like.

The Champions Armor had a flippin' sneeze guard for god's sake. It was awful.

Frankly the problem with "give me good looking stuff" is that what anyone considers good looking is gonna vary and in both games I can say the armor that looked good to me was about none. It is all too big, bulky, pointy and silly.

Yes, and they also said Sim City 2013 needed constant internet access... lol, never trust anything a biased party say to you. There is software programs that can do wonders with textures in any game, and given time Frostbite will bite the dust like all other games have to do when professional 3rd parties get involved, just look on the "unbreakable" playstation 3...

I prefer the ME2/3 system where the armor pieces are almost entirely cosmetic when you boil it down

Ideally I'd like my character's appearance to change as they change, but that would still require good early options.

It wasn't stated by a biased party but by actual modders. You seem to think that third parties are always more advanced than what actual developers even though there are countless games nowadays which have zero mods and that is not for not trying.

And what professional 3rd party? Unless a hacker actually works as a hacker in a real business you can't call them a professional. The vast majority of the time they are amateurs no matter their skill level.

I admit, I'm happy with what I've seen so far. At least for now I'm pretty confident that my wizard won't be forced to wear a dress robes but actually will be cloaked! Or similar cool looking outfit :3 I'm in good spirits about the outfits in this game. Especially since they are customizable to a certain degree, no?

My favourite set of armour was that pirate-y mage costume in the middle of the game of DA2. I didn't like the Champion set personally. Hopefully we can either transmogrify gear or rank up gear.

I found DA2 provided me with more of what I liked at lower levels for both rogues and mages than DA:O did, especially for the female character. The rogue outfit in Origins was godawful.

I dont mind if the outfits have rubbish stats at the start, as long as they look really good. Can't be saving the world in rags

Yep.  I think the only non champion armor I liked was the DLC stuff.  And that was only....maybe, two outfits out of all of em.

I found the Champion Armor to be a little dumb looking.  It was super spikey and looked like something totally unrealistic.  It was a little "anime" like for my taste.  Hawke could have put his eye out with that damned armor.

I much preferred the other armor sets for mages.  They felt more like a "DA mage" than the Champion Armor.

The whole pajama robe thing got kinda old after a while, so I wasn't a fan of a lot of those robes.

At least the DAI Mage Armor looks like it packs a punch.

I want robes for my NecroInquisitor. I intend to craft robes for Rogues and Warriors, as well.

Not sure this is a particular worry for Inquisition.  My impression was from what has been said on Origins and DA2's resources is that the lack of variation was another limitation on the older engine they had used for those games.  From what I've seen so far from Inquisition's looks it doesn't seem as though that's such a concern.  Hopefully there is a lot more variation across the board for PC armours/clothing etc and not just a bunch of items with unique names, but with the same skin as a bunch of other items.

Note the innocent whistling... In all seriousness, I do prefer the more rogue-like attire for my DA2 mages. Stats aside, I don't like Hawke to wear an outfit that screams "Look at me! I'm an apostate!"

Damn straight!  I've always fancied myself an aesthetician.  The key to being a leader of leaders is to look like a badass!

I had one of those once.  The problem was that the operating team working on me were expecting an anaesthetist.
