Hello everyone! I was hoping that you guys and gals could help me solve something.

Here is the short version: I'm only purchasing two more games this year and one of them is going to be Dragon Age: Inquisition. I am torn between Destiny and The Last of Us Remastered and I was wanting you guys to convince me on which one I should get.

Extended version: I was originally going to get Destiny and wait until next year to get TLoU after the price dropped, but I played the Destiny beta and was disappointed by the overall size and the speed at which I leveled up. Granted its a beta, but I am worried about how much this represents the final game. I have heard that there was only 3 areas we couldn't reach on the Earth map during the beta and to be honest running back and forth between the same areas over and over doesn't appeal to me much. So if that was the majority of the Earth map, then I don't expect the Moon, Venus or Mars maps to be much bigger (those 4 are the only maps in at launch). There is also the issue that I don't have any friends who have a Playstation 4 and we can't communicate with voice chat outside of strike teams.

I did enjoy the combat, collecting armor, customizing and upgrading my character, so it isn't all negative.

I haven't played The Last of Us yet, but I've heard good things about it and have been able to avoid spoilers. I am more of a single player type person and I love being able to make decisions that effect the narrative, are any of those in the game (no spoilers, please)? Is the game long with highly replay value, because I am wanting to be kept occupied for at least a while.

Thanks for reading and any input on the matter.

Personally, even with your opinions, I'd go Destiny because you'll get better mileage on it compared to The Last of Us.

I'd go with Destiny. Granted, I might be a bit biased here cause I'm a huge Bungie fan, but Destiny was one of the most positive beta experiences I've ever had. And if that was just the beta, I can only imagine what the final thing will be like.

Personally, I think TLOU is highly overrated. I've never liked "cinematic" games because developers often end up taking the "game" out of "video game" in their attempts to turn games into movies. The game felt too linear and non-interactive to me, and the gameplay was repetitive and unfun. I also found it hilarious how the devs went out of their way to insist this wasn't a "zombie" game, as if that was somehow shameful or undesirable. As for its story, I found it too angsty and pretentious. A textbook example of "True Art is Angsty" if there ever was one. If I wanted to play a zombie game that was actually fun to play, I'd play Valve's Left 4 Dead games. Yes, I'm one of those Philistines who thinks the most important thing about a game is that it be *gasp!* fun to play!

So anyway, definitely Destiny.

I really don't like to kill zombies, surviving and living among jerk people and accompanying my girl who constantly says "fack".

Something that looks like 'Unreal' or 'Halo'? That's much better!

I haven't played either, but I'd go with Destiny. Destiny looks like something that you can play for a long time, while The Last of Us is simply a linear story that's over once you reach the end.

Even better: Halo mixed with Borderlands? That's a match made in Heaven for me!

I'd probably go with what most people here are saying and go destiny. I'm like you, in the sense that I prefer single player narrative driven games. And I was definitely let down by Last of Us. Don't get me wrong, GREAT game and I highly think you should get it at some point. But I definitely think it is over rated.

And as far as your question goes, no. No choices to affect the story.

You'd get more bang for your buck with Destiny, so I suggest that. The Last of Us is worth a rent though.

Don't know about TLOU, however Destiny I am willing to bet will flame out, it's barely a game as far as I know, a massive grindathon in the theme of humans vs aliens, give or take.

I played TLOU remastered and the destiny beta on ps4 and I would recommend to buy destiny first.

While TLOU is great you will only need a few days to finish it.

I would go with Destiny.

The Last of Us is an amazing storyline driven game but not everyone enjoys games that play more like interactive movies. ( I do, many other don't ). It's also a survival horror game with a heavy emphasis on stealth and recourse management ( at least in the early stages of the game ) so expect to spend more time sneaking around than engaging in combat ( I personally have love hate relationship with stealth games ). You could probably get 80 - 90% of the Full a Last of Us experience from watching a complete walk through on YouTube.

I'll pick Civ Beyond Earth. If I were forced to choose between Last of us and another game, I'd probably go with "another game". But since no-one can force me, I'll pick the next Civ game.

I would be all over that if my computer was strong enough to handle it. It's on its last legs though, sometimes it'll overheat and do an emergency shut down when I am on Youtube, its also done that while reading Wikipedia

I don't mind interactive movies, I loved Heavy Rain, Telltale's The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among us. I am not much of a fan of forced failure due to screwing up stealth and being detected. I am glad that Ubisoft is taking a bit of a different approach on Assassin's Creed Unity in that regard.

I always wondered if it was over rated. It is a bit of a bummer that there aren't any choices that can affect the story, I would have liked that a lot.

I don't really care if a game has zombies or not, I'll just mow em down like any other enemy I have to face  All I care about is that the games I play are fun.

Thanks for all of the replies, I appreciate it! As things stand at the moment I am definitely going with Destiny. It'll take a really compelling argument to convince me to get The Last of Us over it now.

Buy Destiny. Watch a LP of The Last of Us - it's a movie anyway.

I will be getting a copy of Destiny with the white PS4 bundle next month. But since I don't have a PS3, I will certainly pick up The Last of Us for PS4. I've heard nothing but good things about it. If I had to choose though,I would go with Destiny since it is a much larger game.

The problem is that any game that's loved by the masses or worshipped by a small to medium fanbase will be labelled as overrated despite its quality. TLOU, Planescape: Torment, ME2 and hell, even BG2. This goes for shows as well. I've heard people say Breaking Bad is overrated as well as GoT and AoT.

This is essentially what I've always said -- Nevermind the quality, it's as soon as people start to actually talk about these named pop culture phenomenons, where people feel they need to put it down for the sake of trying to shamelessly stand out from the crowd. Nothing will be truly be quality if it isn't underappreciated/underground, because then it's suddenly mainstream or commercial. It's such a redundant way of thinking of sometimes. The thing one would have to consider is that people tend to love certain things for different reasons - As a result, it creates a healthy diverse atmosphere, paves way for cool discussion too.

I know, for one thing, that the things I love is due to how I find rich, deep and intriguing underlying beauty in it all which others might not perceive in the same way. I think this counts for most of us. It's repeat of what I mentioned before. We are all so very different in our way of thinking and what we choose to take away from the things we read, we watch, we play or we do.

In other words -- Just because some people branded The Last of Us "Citizen Kane of Gaming" doesn't mean that you should let such a statement cloud your own judgement, whether negatively or positively. You should have the ability to decide and judge for yourself and find your own reasons for why you like or dislike something. Be mindful, that I simply use the context of "you" as a template for the individual itself and not you specifically, Sim, heh.

Anyway, I'd say that The Last of Us is a good game because I feel it accomplishes what it said out to do, the gameplay is more varied than that of Uncharted and thus it requires a bit more out of the player and everything. But I think the overall point has been made, anyway.

Yeah, any time someone proclaims anything the 'Citizen Kane" of something or the like its best to write them of as a pretentious asshat and move along. Humans are flawed, everything they create will have flaws. And even if you do not like something you should still be able to appreciate why others do for the most part. I personally thought HL2 was one of the most bland shooters I've played, but I'm told its modability (gamers, making up words since 1980) was pretty revolutionary at the time.

Destiny

Better to jump on when it has an active community who are mostly as inexperienced as you. If you wait a year many people will have moved on to other games and most of those who haven't will have a year's worth of experience playing the game, and mostly act like douchetards towards Noobs. That has been the case with every multiplayer game in existence.

Single player cames like The Last of Us can be played at any time without your experience of the game being affected by the length of time you waited to play it.

Who decides what's overrated or not anyway.

Isn't that the whole point of opinions?
