I say you should splurge and buy both. LOL. Personally I'd take the TLOU if forced to choose, but that's just my opinion.

But maybe these things really are overated?

Who decides what's overrated or not anyway.

Isn't that the whole point of opinions?

This is just my thoughts but unless something is complete **** you should still be able to appreciate why others like it, even if it does not interest you personally. Wasn't it Justicar Samara that said if you have 5 humans in a room you'll get 10 different opinions, so while everyone is entitled to an opinion most of the time they are just wrong. LOL.

This is essentially what I've always said -- Nevermind the quality, it's as soon as people start to actually talk about these named pop culture phenomenons, where people feel they need to put it down for the sake of trying to shamelessly stand out from the crowd. Nothing will be truly be quality if it isn't underappreciated/underground, because then it's suddenly mainstream or commercial. It's such a redundant way of thinking of sometimes. The thing one would have to consider is that people tend to love certain things for different reasons - As a result, it creates a healthy diverse atmosphere, paves way for cool discussion too.

I know, for one thing, that the things I love is due to how I find rich, deep and intriguing underlying beauty in it all which others might not perceive in the same way. I think this counts for most of us. It's repeat of what I mentioned before. We are all so very different in our way of thinking and what we choose to take away from the things we read, we watch, we play or we do.

In other words -- Just because some people branded The Last of Us "Citizen Kane of Gaming" doesn't mean that you should let such a statement cloud your own judgement, whether negatively or positively. You should have the ability to decide and judge for yourself and find your own reasons for why you like or dislike something. Be mindful, that I simply use the context of "you" as a template for the individual itself and not you specifically, Sim, heh.

Anyway, I'd say that The Last of Us is a good game because I feel it accomplishes what it said out to do, the gameplay is more varied than that of Uncharted and thus it requires a bit more out of the player and everything. But I think the overall point has been made, anyway.

I completely agree with what you have stated, in fact that is why I made this topic instead of looking at scores and reviews to decide if I should get TLoU or Destiny. We've got this great forum here and while we (the community) are made up of a wide variety of people for the most part we manage to get along and are interested in gaming. I could have made an account and posted this on a site like gamefaqs, but I felt that there could be a strict bias or some sort of control done at a site like that because those sites tend to dabble in reviews and scores, this forum is owned by Bioware who is a neutral party and couldn't care less about those two games and thus I didn't have to worry about people being censored or what have you.

As such, I felt that I didn't have to worry about any sort of unjustified bias, I figured that the BSN community would give compelling and fair arguments/points as to which game I should get and I feel that I was right on that. We've got this large melting pot of opinions and yet everyone can come together and be reasonable about it here, that is why I love these forums. We are able to be passionate about something, but remain dignified

I'm certainly going to give The Last of Us a chance in the future  :D One of the reasons I still haven't played it was the fact that I didn't own a Playstation 3 when it came out (only had my PS3 since May this year) and when I did get it, I knew that TLoU was coming to the Playstation 4, so I held off, although I do feel guilty about it.

Oh I'm not saying those that like something I think is overrated are wrong, just that I thought he meant that we can't say that something is overrated.

I would if I could, but I am between jobs right now, so I am budgeting a bit. On the plus side I went downtown today and handed in an application and was told to expect a call back, so hopefully I'll get an interview and the job and I'll be able to take your advice in the near future.

We cool. I suppose my ramblings was more about the fact I think the word is used much too casually.

Like most people already stated U get more bang for your buck with Destiny. TLOU is a great game but its pretty short will little replay value.

The Last of Us for sure. The story, characters, gameplay, multiplayer (which is very fun and underrated), graphics, music, everything leads up for it to be a 10/10. The Left Behind DLC is phenomenal! You would probably love Destiny, but The Last of Us was game of the year for a reason. The literal only 2 complaints I have are

1: they way they sleep on pillows is weird

2: when stealthing, Ellie will walk right in front of them and they won't even notice (although its reasonable, because it would be a mess Ellie would always give away your position and die for a game over)

I have to admit I do not get the hype about Destiny; it just looks like a blander version of Borderlands to me (in fact, I plan on getting the Pre-Sequel over it). The Last of Us, on the other hand, was easily my favourite game of last year.

I'd go with Destiny, its going to have a lot of content and will have expansions released after launch. TLOU looks like a great game but you should wait for a price drop.

Both are good picks. The Last of Us Remastered is amazing, especially hard and above. Great survival stealth/action with a good story and fantastic characters. It's about 20 hours. Being a Xbox 360 convert I never played it, but I loved every second.

You'll get more longevity out of Destiny, though, and I loved the beta.

I suggest both.

With Destiny, it appears you actually get to play a game. So I'd go with that one.

You're not allowed to have an opinion any more unless it coincides with society at large or the agenda of the day. The Dragon Age: Inquisition section on this forum is proof of that, among other things. You'll either have some overzealous, pseudo-intellectual fanboy excoriate you or a SJW will call you a bigot. Sometimes they will come in the form of one poster/person, which is truly horrifying.

I'm all for some good SJW-bashing but what does this have to do with the discussion at hand?

Anyway, back on topic. Destiny seems to have more content than The Last of Us and is a lot more fun to play so I'd go for that.

The discussion went from "Destiny or The Last of Us" to debating why people classify games or any type of popular media as overrated--and apparently, if it's okay to do so--for a few posts. You must have missed that portion of the thread, which is odd, considering it was being discussed at the top of this page. Which is where...

The SJWs didn't really have anything to do with it, but I couldn't help but include them. Anyway, is that explanation sufficient enough for you? If not, I'll make sure to run all my posts by you in the future to make sure that they're on-topic. I would find it quite humorous, since you made it a personal hobby to derail threads and post stupid sh*t all over this forum.

TLOU was my game of the year it really is an awesome experience, and I would recommend everyone play it. Destiny looks good too especially if you have some friends to play with, reminds me of Borderlands and that's always a good thing. If you have the funds I'd say get both, but if not just get the one with the play style you enjoy most.

I haven't played both, but If I had to choose I would pick Destiny. It looks beautiful and fun and I'm just not into the zombie genre.

Well, if you're going to get Destiny get it with the Taken King bundle. Trust me.
