Makes me wonder what the real reason is
This is part of the challenge of explaining things. Mike did explain it. The original implementation was actually more restrictive about where/when you could change your abilities.
You can hate the reasoning and the explanation (which is fine). But it's not some grand conspiracy.
He explained it in his clarification tweet, but the original response of "32 is a lot" doesn't really get to the heart of the question people wanted to know. We wanted to know why it was reduced, not be given a reassurance to look on the bright side.
The joys of working with 140 characters.
Interesting because never did I say hated anything, I am curious if there is more to the story then what is stated considering Bioware's track record, but like I said in previous threads Allan Schumacher I refuse to take your bait because its not even worth it.
Royal "you." Not you, specifically
Or you could use your website that you have, to give the details about this instead of a hiding it for as long as possible and then when called out on it give a misdirecting tweet and then complain that you did not have enough space to give proper details.
Just as a note, hiding it for as long as possible would be hiding it until November 17 (or not sharing it at all). Which would definitely be inappropriate.
I don't mean to come across as complaining, though. I'm stating that it was broken into two tweets because that's the medium.
I wonder if gamepad/console design may have influenced the number of abilities. Laidlaw also states DA is about planning ahead. Really? I never saw it that way. I thought it was about planning in real time on the spot. There were no advantages to planning ahead other than supplying yourself with the right consumables.
Mike specifically did say "DAI" (not just DA). Other parts of this includes things like health regeneration being altered and stuff like that and changes to healing system.
So is this the result of expanding the levels? Meaning exploration is now meant to more hazardous?
In that expanding the levels meaning the game has placed a lot more focus on exploration than previous Dragon Age games then that's probably a fair way of looking at it.
I remember seeing a button that looks like you'll switch them
That gives you access to your potions. (In single player potions are activated in the radial menu since that pauses the game).
There's a screenshot that shows bees I believe, that shows the potions being setup.
Nope no access you'll have to prepare your quickslots before every battle. Hopefully they will have some sort of loadout manager so we can save different loadouts.
Just to be clear on this since I see people using the term "prepare you quickslots before every battle." You won't need to prepare your quickslots before every battle... your quickslots definitely remain assigned with their existing abilities.
Excessive loadout switching would require two circumstances: Having more than 8 abilities and level design/combat encounters designed in a way that would necessitate this level of micromanagement.
I don't understand what you are saying, are you saying we only need the same 8 abilities the whole game or that we only get to have 8 abilities in all our levelling up or every encounter is identical in design.
because as it seems to me now it necessitates changing your quickslots before every encounter,
I'm saying that you only need to change your quickslots IF
- You have more than 8 abilities (since if you don't have extra abilities, there's no point in swapping out currently assigned abilities with nothing). Note, our game has a lot more passive and upgrade abilities that won't require a quickslot.
- If you think that the encounters actually require you to constantly remap your controls between every battle.
EG: If the 8 abilities you have assigned work fine for a particular area/region, you won't have to remap constantly. You'll just keep using the same ones.
While I would probably debate whether or not this decision is innately "bad design" simply by its existence, I would say that if the game design is set up such that changing your mapped abilities constantly is a requirement, then that would be poor decision.
Constantly needing to remap the abilities would mean that our encounters vary intensely and frequently. It would also mean that our encounters are also typically very long since you'd also have to deal with mana/energy requirements to have to cycle through each ability. You used the word "identical" so I suspect there's going to be a disagreement you and I will have about what level of variation would mean that an encounter is "identical" so I'm not sure how well we can reconcile that aspect.
Consider this post a cutoff. If I see any more bickering or willful targeting of posters because you disagree with them I will not be happy. It's not hard to not respond to someone that you think is being unreasonable, and your lack of response won't mean that the feedback is any more powerful or unchecked than otherwise.
Please feel free to use the ignore function if you feel the need.
I clicked the report button and tried to more or less ignore him
He by the way actually targeted other posters but you let it pass
If it's not double standards I don't know what is
My post isn't directed towards any individual poster. That it happened to come after your post doesn't mean anything.
Then it's fine, still... that report button isn't working, it seems
No, the report function is working just fine. I just made my post in this thread to hopefully help stop things as I cleaned them up.
Perhaps you should just flush this thing Allan.
Although, its being discussed in multiple threads, and a new one will replace this one shortly anyway...
The issue is too hot right now.
I remember doing something similar waaaaaaaaaaaay back with the Human Only Protoganist decision pre time extension. It just makes a new thread start up and people get upset because they, rightfully, are frustrated and want an outlet for that. I'd rather it be here. If you see other threads, please direct them to this one and/or report the thread as being duplicate.
Allan, are you able to comment on the issues raised in this topic? Even a 'no comment at this time' would be appreciated.
Sure I'll take it to that thread.
