@BioMarkDarrah I can confirm that that does look like our PC UI.

What is the icon between summon mount and cancel order? Have we had that before?

It looks lovely, and yay for the Tab button making a comeback.

I'm really sad about the 8 skill limit though. Why is this necessary? :( How are we going to access more abilities during battle? Seems like such a weird decision to make 200 abilities only to limit each character to 8. Can we hear why that decision was made from the devs when there are so many new abilities?

Edit: In Divinity: Original Sin, there is the option to switch tabs so you can access more abilities during battle without filling the whole screen. Could a thing like that be implemented? That way the interface's look won't even be affected.

I noticed that there are only 8 slots for abilities - it's too few in my opinion. :(

Maybe we can have more quickbar  That would be nice...I bet some abilities are passive . But just 8 ?

No, the eight abilities limit is a terrible design, what were they thinking ?

A storm of any kind is probably an overreaction, but why wouldn't taking advantage of the mouse have been a good idea? Differences in content between versions would be a poor decision, but diminishing the UI for one version to accommodate shortcomings in others seems strange.

It looks nice, though, well set out etc. hopefully we can expand but if not, well, there are worse things in this world.

Because I don't believe it has anything to do with the UI, though that's how it's presented. I think it was a gameplay choice. If they had wanted to do it like before (nad believe me, I played on console for all games so far and had no problem using radial menu to use abilities, which I cannot now), they would have. They chose to limit it to 8 at a time.

We do know they can be switched while in the field, but not if we can switch during a fight.

About Amount of Abilities some are commenting on:

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if that 200 count included all Specializations (you can only pick 1) as well as passives (there are lots and they dont' take up slots), and you also have upgrades. I'm sure we'll still have more than 8, but probably not as many as you might think.

Looks pretty nice, but PC is still going to be able to use a controller, right? (that was something I missed friggen' royally with playing DA2 on the PC over the XBox 360)

Uhh... Don't believe so. Hrm, move order? The first one in that little set looks like a 'attack this' sort of thing.

Yep. All the footage you've seen until today has been PC + controller actually.

Whatever Bioware's reasons for this decision, it had nothing to do with console UI. Console gamers had easy access to all abilities in both previous games. Controllers didn't mysteriously lose buttons between DA2 and now.

They've been playing the game on a PC using a controller since they unveiled it. ;)

But yes, the PC version supports controllers.

Dramatic representation of PC gamers' response:

tumblr_mcevwg33ph1rqzu2ko2_r1_500.gif

Because it probably has nothing to do with console mapping and is a design decision.

It's not 'I'm never happy'. I played the other two games and  I know 8 slots are not enough. I could bareIy fit my abilities into available slots. However, the overall look of the UI is very familiar and seems more comfortable in use than the ones from previous games. So, we'll se how it works in game.

8 ability limit could have at least been 10.

I mean, I have 10 number keys, not 8.

I think it looks beautiful. Had no reason to expect anything less, really. I've always found DA's PC interfaces very intuitive and non-intrusive.

I'm not bothered by the 8 slots, even though in the last two games I used way more than that. I won't have a proper sense of it until I play the game, after all.

Could be a compass symbol or the over land map quick button.

I would like to know the rationale for 8 ability slot restriction, across all platforms. This is not Mass Effect, this is Dragon Age. We will have a lot of abilities we want to use.

Hmm, sucks for mages, I guess. What's the point of this restriction?

Yeah, could be. Would make sense. Attack, then hold/follow, cancel order, move to point...donkey!

The health potion is tied to 9, and there are two empty slots to the right of it. 0 and -, by the looks of it.

Unless the decision was both out of consideration for controllers and the new multiplayer mode. Maybe they cut it because radial selection is too cumbersome for forced real time play, then adjusted the PC UI for parity.

Might as well play using a controller now. Really not much difference anymore.

MP characters only get four active abilities.
