Hello!
First off, I am brand new to the Bioware forums. I actually just made this account to start this discussion, so hopefully it's worth discussing.
Disclaimer: I have only played the games and know only a minimum about the books/comics/ect.
To put myself in the Dragon Age mindset for the upcoming release of Inquisition I decided to do another play through of Origins and DA2. After finishing DA2 and hearing Leliana talk about the Warden being missing, some old, long forgotten gripes about the game resurfaced. What the heck has the Warden been doing and why doesn't she/he care? Now Leliana says they are missing, but DA2 is over the course of many years and so we don't really know when she/he has gone missing. I assume that even if The Warden isn't actually in Inquisition his/her character, being the Hero of Ferelden, will still have a huge impact to the game. Now with so many options on what could happen to The Warden I imagine Bioware will have some type of similar outline on what a living Warden would do after The Blight, or at least how they end up missing.
With this in mind I am really curious as to what The Warden could have been doing. Depending on how you play your character they can be a major busy body (most game protagonists are). So why wouldn't they, to at least some extent (especially depending on your origins), be involved with Kirkwall? Leliana says that Thedas is waiting to see what will happen in Kirkwall, so obviously the news is out there.
(I'm really sorry if this is all over the place)
Now for all the mage Wardens (who did not die or run off with Morrigan) wouldn't this news attract their attention? It's a huge deal for all mages everywhere! Especially if The Warden supported the Ferelden circle...rationally wouldn't this cause a lot of concern?
And if The Warden is of Dalish origin (and did not kick the bucket or go riding of into the creepy mirror with Morrigan), it is hard to believe that their clan has been trapped on Sundermount for years and the Dalish Warden heard no news of this and never went to help (or other Dalish clans for that matter...so maybe this is just poor writing?)
The biggest contender I have is if The Warden became Warden Commander, because even though matters like the Templars vs. Mages shouldn't concern them, surely one of their own starting a war would. ESPECIALLY if The Warden is friends with Anders and Justice, because as their commander isn't the Warden partially responsible for everything they do? And as their friend wouldn't they want to help? And they can find out about Anders from Nathaniel or other Grey Wardens.
So, their is a top secret reason the Grey Wardens are in Kirkwall, and yes, The Warden is almost certainly involved (if they aren't pushing daisies or raising babies) but it really keeps them so busy that they don't notice or care that their clan is stranded/or a bunch of mages and templars are killing each other/ or their friend is going bat crap crazy being possessed by Justice the "friendly" spirit? Even though, when The Warden was rushing to raise an army and defeat The Blight they had time to stop and tell someone their husband died or go and assassinate some people or all other meager side quests under the sun, but they are so completely busy with whatever they're doing for all these years that they never get involved with Kirkwall.
Long post short...what the heck are they doing!? And I hope I'm not the only one who is going to be severely perturbed if the answer just doesn't match up to your Warden's origins and character. I mean, they better be really friggin' busy. Ideas, theories, and opinions welcome. Did I miss some important details? Please keep it friendly!
