Why would you need 2 separate mouse buttons for the same function?

Right mouse pans and rotates (360 degrees)

That makes no sense. If you hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse right the camera can EITHER pan right or it can rotate right. I don't see how it could be sufficiently controlling both panning and rotating.

can we play the entire game in tac cam toggling pause, rather than having to hold down a button to get real time?

Why would you have to hold down a button to un-pause (real time) the game? Just hit the space bar again.

I guess I'm confused. Was that how it was on console DAO and DA2?

Because on the console you have to hold down one of the controller buttons to "engage" (to unpause).

If the button is not held down, the game is paused in the tactical camera, always.

As far as I know, we haven't heard anything about how it may differ on the PC.

I am pretty sure it can only pan, then. Perhaps I am confused by what your definition of rotating is. The camera is always focused on one of your characters, and circles and zooms in/out from them. Not a fixed point based on how high or far the camera happens to be.

Well, considering the hourglass icon in the middle of the screen I am guessing the pc version does not require you to hold your mouse cursor on that icon as you would be unable to click on anything else.

What? I sure hope it isn't fixed on a single character at all time. It wasn't in Origins. It started out fixed on one character when you zoomed out but you could move the camera freely around the battlefield by holding the right mouse button down.

Holding down the middle mouse button rotated the camera with 360 degrees around the middle point of the camera.

I am not sure what other definition of "rotate" there are.

You must have altered your key config for Origins because I have no idea what you mean by the phrases, "it started out fixed..." and "... the middle point of the camera".

Middle mouse button was not used for anything by default, I am 99% sure. And I think you are mistaking locked with the word "focused". Yes, the right mouse allowed you to freely spin around whatever you were focused on. At any time you could click on another character or enemy and the focus then shifted. It was very intuitive.

Just tried it out again. While, yes i confused the rightmouse button with the middle mouse button somehow the camera was NOT fixed on a single person at all times.

You can rotate the camera by holding down the right mouse button, just as you said.

But you can move the camera around freely by holding down the middle mouse button.

If you don't believe me, start the game up again and try it out.

I believe you. I just don't remember ever using that personally. If that was in fact a default function for middle mouse button, then I would expect it will be in DAI as well. Which is cool.

Was it that way in DA2 as well?

No because there was no tactical camera in DA2. Then you actually were fixed to one party member at all times and couldn't zoom out for sh**.

in DAO the tactical camera could be moved freely.

IN DA2 the camera was always locked on your currently used character.

I have a feeling this can be toggled via the options, for consoles.  Whether you can pause/unpause the game while using the tactical camera without having to hold down a button, I mean....

It's basically a convenience feature. Like Crono said, so you can eat pizza while playing. Actually, aside from the space bar (pause), I hope to only need to use 1hand for most of the game anyway. 6 button mouse ftw!

Only six? :P

But even as I have that, I'm probably still going to play DAI with a 360 controller. Call me weird, I guess! ^^

I hope so. Keeping RT depressed to keep time moving sounds annoying. Then again, I'll give it a whirl. It wouldn't be the first time something sounds incredibly unintuitive until it's actually in my hands. Once upon a time I thought Metroid Prime should have had a dual-stick control scheme akin to Halo. Maker, forgive me.

Yea, I've seen that monster. Impressive, and with that many mouse buttons, if you did use KB&M ui, you literally wouldn't have to bind a single function to the keyboard so playing DA1 one-handed would be relatively easy.

And I know it's an unattractive topic around here, but I have to ask you... now that we have a clear distinction between how the camera works in both ui's, why would you choose the one that is always locked at a set 3rd person distance (unless you switch modes, and possibly have to pause the game), as well as constantly forcing you to move with wasd (edit: obviously I meant dpad - was still thinking key assignments) Is it personal preference?

I want to take a gander at the PC UI for the talent trees, inventory, and character inventory

Guessing those are what we will be getting in the coming days.

I just hope they didn't try to reinvent the wheel with what should be very simple design layouts...
