Hello, so I've attempted to offer feedback on this and potential future Bioware games. I must say, there was a lot of... um... unhappiness but also legitimate claims as to confusion about those points about the boring characters or female inquisitor, so rather than revisit those points I would just try and state clearly the issue.

I don't enjoy or have any interest in games like Watch Dogs, Call of Duty, etc, because they are always super macho men doing macho things blah blah blah. However, this applies to Bioware also, even though I'm told, Bioware is going oh diversity, yes look at our... 3 female characters?

First of all, that's a 2 to 1 ratio, there are 2 men every women as far as companions go, which is a weak ratio. Additionally, those remaining 3 women are basically men. Cassandra the sergeant, Vivienne the executive, and Sera the tomboy.

Heck, the most recent trailer, Enemy of Thedas, showed a male inquisitor for awhile, then Dorian, then Cole, then Cullen, some zombie/enemies, etc, it's pure men. Hilariously (in a bad way), the first time a female shows up (Sera) is when she's being hurled against a wall at high speed (Bioware is... progressive?) Then we go back to men doing manly things, and then some female mage in total isolation taking down a single zombie, which was utterly inspiring. Then more dragons/men (Solas) doing manly things, then hilariously again the next female to show up (Morrigan) is shown for a half second and then blasted off the platform (what's with women being thrown all over the place??). It closes with a bunch of aliens, cool, I'm feeling the female energy all over the place.

So please, if you would like certain people's money put at least one (lets not get too crazy) actual, proper, feminine, companion in future games, thanks.

Cassandra the sergeant, Vivienne the executive, and Sera the tomboy.

And womens can't be sergeant , executive and tomboy ?

Define Feminine companion .

Basically someone that isn't waiting with baited breath to "get" someone argumentatively, or is otherwise predisposed being negative or cynical or weird about every little thing. That would be a starting point, but it would take a lot more than that. Probably a lot more conservative, generally.

Actually, an essential element would be that they don't tend to give commands like DEFINE THIS, just as an example.

Oh yes they can, but feminine "stereotypical" whatever the phrase you want to use women usually are not.

I agree that there should be more female companions, but this statement is absurd. And I mean, really? Vivienne is totally feminine, unless you think ambition is inherently masculine.

anyways, yes I'd like some more feminine companions, but we probably have different ideas of what that entails

I've no problem assuming a female character in games, but then I'm a white male. Maybe it's easier for me?

okay, so, I like the premise of the request: more female characters. But your explanation and description of current female characters is offensive to me. Saying you'd like a variety of different female characters is totally cool. But basically saying these women are men reskinned to be women just...um. Wow. Well, it puts me off a lot. And, for clarity's sake, I am a woman.

so you want a submissive demure female character that acts like a true lady? that sounds boring, cliche and overall dull. I prefer some form of dominant personalities in my companions and major NPC's. You are suggesting a type of female character that is no longer popularly viewed as a good character design choice but rather often comes under fire by outspoken members of the video game community. I would rather have a delicate submissive girly boy then a "stereotypical" women. at least one would be kind of entertaining.

Um I really can't tell if your 'exemple' was a real exemple . Or a way to say 'Don't order me' of a sort . Sorry if it came out that way . I really didn't meant it in that way or any way you may have perceive it . I'm a french speaker , and english isn't my 2nd Language . It's my 4th . So I asked , to make sure I'm understanding . Assuming what did you mean by 'Feminine companions' would be wrong , I do not read mind .

So now I will phrase it better , can you please name an exemple . A charachter from a movie or any other game that would fit your own picture of what is a Feminine Companion .

I agree 2 to 1 ratio is bad and we should have had more Female characters .  I have to say i love the idea of Cass being a strong independent  woman who doesn`t need me to save her all game . I think you can be strong and still be feminine .

I was with you until here, and then you lost me. Cassandra is a man because she is authoritative, Vivienne is a man because she is competent. So what are you saying here, a female character is only a "real" woman if she is meek, submissive, and inept? Then I guess DA's never had female characters, because I don't remember one who fits that bill. Is Morrigan basically a man to you too? Leliana? Anora? Isabela? Aveline?

And let's not even get into "tomboy," because taking potshots at women's appearances is not okay by any excuse, and genderizing haircuts is as useful as genderizing ham.

Stop and think about the things you're actually saying. You don't get to soldier for more female characters by demeaning other female characters and reducing them to archaic gender roles of "basically a man."

Gosh Kefka, things just never go well for you here huh.  ;)

I guess if you just want more 'traditionally feminine' characters, leaving aside... how you describe the other characters by way of comparison, that's a reasonable desire. Though, obviously too late for this game.

It would be nice to have more female characters that have different personalities but it sounds like you just want a sycophantic character that doesn't have a mind of her own.

Can I just pipe in and say that I generally feel the same way about macho-manly-stubbly-men-with-guns games as the OP, but... I recently picked up Watch Dogs on a whim and cannot stop playing it. I'm really glad I gave it a shot. Yeah may have been more interesting for me with a female protagonist, but... I feel that Watch Dogs is a highly entertaining and also addictive game that's worth trying out. And this is coming from someone who has zerooooo interest in the  GTA series, which is what that game gets mostly compared to.

Anyway I do agree with you that just 3 female companions among all the sausage is pretty weak. And that we still don't have a female dwarf. :P

Looks like the others have already pointed out your er... problematic statements regarding those particular three, though...

I almost wanted to come in here and say, yay, then I read a part that made me look at this thread sadly.

I do agree, there should be more females. But to say they are "men", guess I will have to tell the majority of my female family that don't do the "proper" female things of ....  uh..... I keep trying to think when women was not standing up for themselves, when they allowed people to just walk over them...... I want to say cave women but even they bonked their men on the head I am sure for something stupid.

If you want a womanly woman with womanly traits, who's still badass... There is Josephine.

If you want a mysterious woman who's womanly, but badass and deadly... There is Leliana.

If you want a powerful woman, who's a fashion diva and definitly womanly and perfectly able to keep the men in line... There is Vivi.

If you want an even more powerful woman, who's definily womanly, badass AND deadly, who could totally kick everyone's ass and possibly already a mother... There is Morrigan. ;9

While I can somewhat understand the need for other characters for more 'feminine' female characters, I can not agree with you on how you categorize the currently existing ones, especially when you balantly disregard all non-companions.

Also in my oppinion, the setting of Inquisition does not allow for a character - male or female - , who doesn't have a strong personality - Cole excluded for reason, thought I know he can be pretty headstrong if he has set his mind onto something.

So since you obviously don't consider these traits womanly, I'm afraid other than Josephine and some NPCs this game might not hold any female characters for you.

That's at least my spectaculations.

And honestly, this game has already been delayed for some fine-tuning... Personally I'd prefer the team to focus on that, rather than add new stuff at this point. It's still nearly 3 months until release x.x

I also wish that there were more female companions, and agree that women should always feature prominently in the marketing.

Insulting the female companions that do exist, however, gets us nowhere. They're women. They're powerful characters and seem interesting. I couldn't ask for more from Cassandra, Vivienne and Sera and I'm looking forward to adventuring with them come November.

Meanwhile, Josephine seems plenty feminine, and we already know Leliana is a girly-girl who is also good at espionage and combat. (I fail to see how Vivienne isn't sufficiently 'womanly' for anyone, though.)

There are a lot of female characters in the multiplayer game and I'm pretty sure we don't get a choice of gender there...  I'm not sure what their personalities are like, however.

At the end of the day, if my options are a legion of women adhering to your ideas of what they should be, or the smaller cast of well written, diverse women that we do have in Inquisition? I'll choose the smaller cast 8 days a week. I'd love more women characters, but I want strong ones, weak ones, flawed ones, funny ones, serious ones, angry ones, obnoxiously sarcastic ones and everything in between. Women don't have to be or do anything in particular to be worth our attention and interest.
