Hello, so I've attempted to offer feedback on this and potential future Bioware games. I must say, there was a lot of... um... unhappiness but also legitimate claims as to confusion about those points about the boring characters or female inquisitor, so rather than revisit those points I would just try and state clearly the issue.

I don't enjoy or have any interest in games like Watch Dogs, Call of Duty, etc, because they are always super macho men doing macho things blah blah blah. However, this applies to Bioware also, even though I'm told, Bioware is going oh diversity, yes look at our... 3 female characters?

First of all, that's a 2 to 1 ratio, there are 2 men every women as far as companions go, which is a weak ratio. Additionally, those remaining 3 women are basically men. Cassandra the sergeant, Vivienne the executive, and Sera the tomboy.

I'd like to see a greater variety of women from different cultures as part of the main cast; qunari, dwarven elven. In essence, I'd like to see future Dragon Age games delve into providing more insight and depth into the other cultures of Thedas. I'm certainly not opposed to seeing more female companions, particularly from non-Andrastian cultures (as I think Inquisition leans a bit too Andrastian human-centric in the composition of the main cast for men and women), but I don't see how you can genuinely say that Cassandra, Vivienne, or Sera are "basically men". A woman can be a strong warrior, rogue, or mage; this was the crux of the conversation that our companions (and the female Warden) could have with Sten.

Heck, the most recent trailer, Enemy of Thedas, showed a male inquisitor for awhile, then Dorian, then Cole, then Cullen, some zombie/enemies, etc, it's pure men. Hilariously (in a bad way), the first time a female shows up (Sera) is when she's being hurled against a wall at high speed (Bioware is... progressive?) Then we go back to men doing manly things, and then some female mage in total isolation taking down a single zombie, which was utterly inspiring. Then more dragons/men (Solas) doing manly things, then hilariously again the next female to show up (Morrigan) is shown for a half second and then blasted off the platform (what's with women being thrown all over the place??). It closes with a bunch of aliens, cool, I'm feeling the female energy all over the place.

So please, if you would like certain people's money put at least one (lets not get too crazy) actual, proper, feminine, companion in future games, thanks.

If you're talking about seeing women depicted in positions of strength and competence, I wouldn't be opposed to that. Your comments about a "proper, feminine companion" leave me vexed, however. Based on your OP and your following comments, I don't think many people want the same depiction of women as you.

I would have like a more even spread among companions gender wise.

I think that's why we have 2/3 females in the Advisers though, for what it's worth.

It'd also solve the problems of whether Vivienne should be a a Romance or not.

So Cassandra, Vivienne and Sera are "men". Really? Hmm. I have to say they're the best looking "men" I've seen.

It's really more like 7:5 for "main characters" as Bioware considers it, since advisors have the same word count as companions and probably have even greater plot relevance due to their 'forced' status and prominence in the Inquisition.

But I think the OP's complaint is more that there isn't some 'stereotypically feminine' character...this may be in part due to DA:I having an older cast compared to most RPGs so characters that are more naive/innocent may be less likely.

Oh hey, I swore I wouldn't do this again, but its too hard to resist. Its the bloke who wanted a lot of female companions with hobbies like baking, and picking flowers, and such like; I believe specifically asking for a companion that stayed up all night choosing the right flower to give you, wasn't it? Even though this is a game about a war.

It was rubbish then and its rubbish now. Anyone who engages Kefka on this topic can expect him to fail to respond to any well-made points, and then proceed to move his goalposts throughout. Enjoy.

I do not understand your point.  There are women all over DA.  OP, it sounds like you want the women to be more feminine.  It seems like you are mistaking your argument which really seems to be, "I want the women to be more like I want the women to be," not "I want more women in the game."  There are all sorts of female characters in positions of power in previous DA games, not to mention companions, and the possibility of playing as a female.  What are you asking for that you haven't been getting?

In case you didn't notice, virtually everyone was getting kicked around in that trailer, including the men.

You are reading way too much into this. You'll get to do plenty of womanly things when the game arrives, I wouldn't judge from a single trailer.

First of all: wat

Secondly: you want a "feminine" woman?

The 2:1 gender ratio among adventuring companions is reversed with regard to your advisors (Leliana, Josephine, Cullen), and even still you can only bring three companions with you at any given time.

Meanwhile, beyond the Inquisition:

Selene rules Orlais as it's Empress.
Anora can rule Ferelden as Queen, and in some cases rule it alone.
Morrigan is still an absolute badass.
Flemeth is bound to appear.

Then there is Andraste, who for better or for worse is easily the most influential figure in recent history of Thedas.

There is no shortage of powerful female characters in this franchise.

That's the problem he has though, women with power or skill or ambition=men. I'm guessing he wants demure princess type characters with long flowing hair and dresses. Non combatants of course who will blush when they see the male Inquisitor and then scurry off to bake him a pie and pine over him. Also she should be kidnapped often and need to be rescued by the male Inquisitor. This is how a woman SHOULD be! None of that "being a leader" or "being a skilled fighter" or "having short hair" business!

But but...  I like long flowing hair and dresses...  :(

Why can't I put my hair up, and decorate my armor with more delicate patterns and colors and still kick butt?  And what's wrong with cooking and pie?  Adventurers need to eat too.  And why can't I flirt all girly like with my companions and kick butt too?  I miss Liliana and the hair and shoe talk...  sniffles...  We were so girly together...

Of course not, we're all as varied as can be.  That being said, I personally like some of the traditionally feminine things that sometimes feel like they are being phased out.  Like pretty dresses.  :(

To say a woman is basically a man because she isn't traditionally or stereotypical feminine is really rude. Would you say that a calm, sensitive and timid male character was basically a woman? Are these personality traits all that define gender? I'd love more female characters, but dismissing the ones we have because they don't fit within sexist stereotypes isn't fair.

Oh absolutely!!!!

Any game where I can wear a pretty dress or dress like outfit and kick butt doing it, preferably with long flowing hair is a winner in my book.  I also enjoy food crafting and collecting recipes in games.  Though I tend to get jealous that apparently only men are allowed to fish...  Then again I do find worms very icky and gross, almost to the point of a full on phobia, so I guess I shouldn't be fishing in games anyway.  :(
