As it stands, the "Important, fighting" roles are allocated primarily to men, whereas women are (primarily) the "advisors" who stand outside the fighting and give you tips and peppy speeches. This isn't sexist?

So you haven't actually been following the game then?

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Cassandra enjoy romance stories? In fact, with a male Hawke, she enjoyed the part where he fights the Arishok, especially one on one, and seems to have briefly developed a crush. Even with the female Hawke, she develops a bit of hero worship.

She is tough, no question about it, but I think Cassandra will show a softer side. Knowing she likes romance stories may suggest that she will be reading some books like that in her downtime. I don't know what Vivienne likes to do outside of fighting except show her love for fashion, so I can't say my thoughts on that. The point is, with Cassandra, she does seem to have a relaxed downtime. If the saying about loving romance stories means anything to her hobbies in Skyhold.

I am female, and I love the characters in the games, both male and female. They each have different characterizations--some I agree, some I don't--even though DA2 doesn't mention much on relaxed hobbies. In Origins, you do know with Leliana that she loves to tell stories and write songs for different adventures. Morrigan may not seem to have much hobbies, but she is also raised by Flemeth who has her do questionable past times. But, she does seem to like to shapeshift to her animal forms, so maybe you can say her hobby is walking through forest areas as animals?

I thiink its less "she likes romance stories" and more "she likes romaticised stories" or she like romanticied people

with romance I think you are getting at a connotation that doesn't fit

The point is that she likes stories and may even read books in her spare time.

I feel like I actually know more about what the companions do in their down time more then Origins.

For instance, Isabela drinks, plays cards and reads dirty books. And Merrill is frequently found in private gardens. Varric is obviously telling stories. They even have Aveline and Varric discuss this precisely; she's a workaholic and her downtime is her with Hawke.

Who are you talking to? I certainly hope it's not me, because no part of what you said has anything to do with any part of what I said.

Lennard, that is why its 22 pages.   :)

Most people get confused, some of us like trying to make sense of what the confusion is about cause its almost like a puzzle game, or a mystery game at some points.  ;)   In this sense, its why I follow this thread still, a mystery puzzle game.  :D

These characters (have increasingly) become too whiny and submissive for my tastes on the whole, and there are too many men. That's basically how I would summarize the problem.

Nothing wrong with a sausage fest, as long as they go into a bread roll. ;)

Okay then.

I disagree, because, like the majority of people who are on this forum, I haven't actually played the game yet in order to give a reasoned assessment as to whether they're 'whiny' or 'submissive'.

And by reasoned assessment I mean one that takes into account the full scope of the story and narrative.  And to add, I don't currently feel the balance of m:f is off. Certainly not in any major way.

I might be willing to listen to you once you've actually played the game.

I would love to see the fulcrum slide to a more balanced ratio of female traveling/party companions, if not in DA:I (since it's already basically a done deal) then in future game releases.

Also, Bethany and Carver should rate inclusion at least as much as Mhairi, I would think. (I would even say that her inclusion is being rather generous with Awakening, myself.)

My PC is rock solid, and this is the first game that locks up on it .... a lot. Might have persevered and tried to wait for patches .... But it is not worth it for the Macho unfeminine game. It is what I love about DAO. .... It has a very feminine quality ... I returned DAI  today

Oh no, this old thread should be dead.. And no, I like DA games just how they are in proportions for females and males.

I totally agree with the OP. Cassandra looks like a man. I haven't played far enough to comment on the other 2 playable females.

Femininity is not shameful or evil. It's good.

I think a straight guy friend of mine put it the best when we were talking about Cassandra recently:

"Well, if Cassandra looks like a man, I guess I'm bisexual."
