Well if you want to be MR LITERAL then of course he doesn't make JRPGs, I can see my analogy failed in at least one instance.

I can't understand what you said here exactly. I never said I disliked them, actually, if I was making a party for instance it would probably be Sera, Solas, Cassandra, or something like that. I don't need to personally "like" them? Well what am I supposed to them then? Not like them? The hell? This is some backwards game design.

You've never played a game where you thought the protagonist was a fuckwad but you recognized he/she was a well-written character?

yes, it was too big and i considered it nasty so i changed it for a smaller one based on the same character and about the 6 year old comment then everyone who posted their pov's against your sexist comments is also 5 or 6, oh great mr adult, can you enlight us?

For me a guy who is basically a woman is someone who values science and knowledge over muscle, does this makes more sense?

Well you were the only one so far that bothered to post a picture, so I reserved a special space for you. Overall though we should all be friends here on BSN, so I'll take that out.

Yeah, it does, I guess that's why I would of put Solas in the party, an interesting combination of feminine and masculine qualities.

No, I don't think so, usually I kind of go, oh yeah ok, that makes sense. The other option is oh ok your the biggest jackstick in the universe, make it worth my while, and they kind of go... oh... well... I'm just so tough and I once killed 10,000 bears to defend the village using my teeth. Then I say, well ok but maybe I could of done that too, then I go and enjoy myself at the summer fair and compete in pie baking contest, then they go... oh... well, I can't bake pie. Then I go, oh.. well... I guess we're done then.

I played the opposite, the characters were all beautifull or handsome, but the writting was terrible... the name of that game was DRAGON AGE ][ or something like that

If only that was actually witty.

Except it was not.

I'm usually the type who rolls his eyes whenever these types of discussions come up as i simply can't stand how everyone goes on about diversity and equality these days when in reality most of it is hypocritical and biased towards one side but i will say i personally wouldn't mind there being more female companions. As long as there is always that option to pick who will be your "best bro friend" as a male protagonist (Alistair or Zevran/oghren, Kaiden or Garrus or Wrex, Carth or Canderous, etc etc etc) then i don't care how many women are in the party also.

Also i've liked the idea of a guy being surrounded by mostly-attractive badazz warrioresses and wanted to play out that scenario since i read the Song of Ice and Fire books (Sandsnakes, wildling spearwives)

Well let me ask this, have you ever played a game where you thought the character was highly emotional and gentle person, but also a total and utter airhead with very however defined competence, so you sensed something valuable in them?

Depends on what classify as an airhead but this guy certainly tops my list, even if I think he is an idiot.

Ah ha, well to be fair I thought for a nano-second of including Logain in the category of asinine but with redeeming qualities. By the end though, it seemed mostly just asinine.

Maleficent in the 2014 movie for instance was very much a cold hearted woman, but the overall picture gave me the distinct impression of a more gentle woman's struggle against her violent tendencies, so I was more engaged overall. Sailor Venus crossed with Logain or something, sounds interesting.

I think I see what OP is trying to say...

Other than Josephine, all of our DAI female characters come across as hardened. They are fighters, thieves, spies, and social climbers. I don't think most of us have an issue since we love seeing female characters portrayed in such diverse, interesting ways.

I think OP is asking for more female characters like Bethany: kind, calm, and diplomatic and not overly aggressive or hardened. I don't think a character like this would necessarily be submissive, weak, or cowardly. But the OP messed up by asking for "real ladies" and calling Cassandra and the other DAI women "basically men." I'd like more quiet, calm, polite, intellectual characters in general that can still fight well when the situation calls for it.

Oh i have one of those right here: http://social.biowar...a_id=1082066052

Edit: Not going to harp on something the whole thread seems to be about.

I will say this. There are 5 of 12 characters that are women when counting advisors. And 3 of those 5 characters are feminine. Lelianna(who is more tough but still considered feminine) Josephine, and Vivienne.

In general femme women are way more common, and in many ways predominant in most media, 2 "butch" women isn't the end of things.

Recruit women for war and this is what you get. This still seems like a bunch of nonsense to me.  Stereotypical women are being argued for?  None of these characters are ordinary, to accomplish this task they must be extrordinary.  This debate can hardly be labeled as such, because I see no one making a point of any kind of sense.

I'd like a game with more women.  Fine.

I'd like a game that doesn't focus so much on physical strength and violence.  O.K.

This game has women, but not the exact kind of women I want, who are soft and hard, and ditzy and beautiful, but in a smart way, but have big hearts, but don't need a man, but aren't total lesbians.  Weak.  It sounds like the poor girls in Sin City who were all prostitutes with hearts of gold and giant guns, but quickly became subserviant when the right guy came along.  Gross.

I can do funny tricks too, the 9 central playable companions (which you are actually going to be around a lot of the time) are made up of 6 men, and Vivienne is a pretty masculine figure AFAIK. Are feminine common in any western video game? Anywhere? Please, show me a single example, aside from possibly TR.

I was with you until here, and then you lost me. Cassandra is a man because she is authoritative, Vivienne is a man because she is competent. So what are you saying here, a female character is only a "real" woman if she is meek, submissive, and inept? Then I guess DA's never had female characters, because I don't remember one who fits that bill. Is Morrigan basically a man to you too? Leliana? Anora? Isabela? Aveline?

And let's not even get into "tomboy," because taking potshots at women's appearances is not okay by any excuse, and genderizing haircuts is as useful as genderizing ham.

Stop and think about the things you're actually saying. You don't get to soldier for more female characters by demeaning other female characters and reducing them to archaic gender roles of "basically a man."

Is it taking potshots if you like tomboys though?

Maybe I should use a diagram or something, lets say 1 is your super barbie, 10 is The Hound.

Vivienne - 8

Cassandra - 6.5

Sera - 5.5

Blackwall - 8

Solas - 6

Varric - 9

Iron Bull - 9

Dorian - 7.5

Cole - 6.5

I'm not saying they're all the same, or that Vivienne is literally a man, or whatever, I'm saying the "feel" is very bromance. It's 2014, I've seen women drink hard and complain about the lack of male behind in conventional media, more power to them and all that, it doesn't make them less of a "woman" literally, but I just want to see someone that's nice "like a stereotypical feminine woman," although obviously for all I care at this point, it could be a man that's this way.

I can't comprehend how Vivienne outmatched Cassandra in manliness. My mind was blown by these stats.

Literally the first thing on the wiki for Vivienne

For those who value survival, sentimentality is not an option."

It doesn't exactly scream "oh lets have fun together! =)"

Cassandra is more ambiguous

I'm not interested in stories. I came to hear the truth.

Hm, ok, so the first thing out of her mouth isn't IM TOUGH, it's like, yes I'm somewhat impatient perhaps, but I'm curious about this or that.

Um, I think you are redefining feminine by a long shot. Bethany, merrill, Liara, leliana, Dawn Star. All Bioware Games, are women that dress feminine and are kind and empathetic. Nevermind that personality is not feminine/masculine inherently. Also your criteria for masculine is as broad as the sea, any mundane power, brashness, confidence, non feminine dressing in any sense, being rude, and generally capable.

While feminine must be kind, empathetic, dress and look feminine, and demure? That isnt the only way to be feminine. It is one type of character.

That would be like someone complaining all the men in dragonage are too feminine because they are not all like Sten, because being at all chatty is feminine trait and they are not all barrel chested men, and he hates compromise and doesn't get along easily like men are supposed to!

Saying Bethany is the only way to be feminine is like saying Sten is the only way to be Masculine, it is one type of character that is very exact and doesn't represent all of a huge group of people.

I think Kafka is judging it by very very narrow views of how personalities are feminine or not. Because vivienne is a politician and exact while being an absolute glamourous woman means she is tough and thus Masculine.
