I think you guys are forgetting that The Mage-Templar war is not the only conflict I believe the Inquisition will be involved in during the game, there is also the Orlesian Civil War.

The problem with that section of the game is there's probably no option to leave the entire country to the Demons.

At the start of DA:I there is a meeting between the Chantry, templars and mages who is now discussion a peace treaty, your inquisitor is there for various reasons and then all hell breaks lose because of the explosion (most likely the one we saw at the start of the enemy trailer) and apparently the leaders of the factions and Chantry were there at the meeting so yeah the war is still ongoing by the time DA:I starts.

That's not actually what I'm asking. I'm suggesting said explosion taking out so many on all sides is what causes the war to end.

Or at least not be a major factor anymore.

No, you can see in the E3 demo they still are fighting.

No they are still fighting the devs have said as much and we have seen them fighting in trailers and demo's and such.

After all a lot of Templars will most likely think the mages betrayed the meeting after the magical explosion, when things go wrong people are more then happy to point fingers at each other.

I hope the Mage Templar war will continue after Inquisition.

I think that Hawke is the ''secret weapon'' that is going to end the Mage-Templar war, and that finding him is key to getting one of the factions to join you. Cassandra seemed pretty convinced he was the only hope to solve it all during DAII, so that will probably be the payoff.

Of course, this could be troublesome if Hawke happens to have a different opinion than the Inquisitor...

Didn't Hawke showed up as  She? And noooo......doesn't mean....sacrifice one self and death a La Exile ?

Clearly, the leaders that were neutral or vying for some sort of peaceful negotiations will be wiped out. The only ones left will be those that did not go there since they wanted war, etc.

With a big hole in the sky I'm sure neutrality will cease to exist.

Actually, that's a very good point. I haven't thought about this. Indeed, it is unlikely that overzealous Templars or extremist mages would attend the peaceful summit for any reason apart from sabotaging it. And I think the security would be tight to prevent this from happening. What to do with the huge hole in the sky, however...

I dunno, it seems like the Extremists will be a minor faction if you can recruit the survivors of whichever group you defeat.

I'd be pretty disappointed if the Mage/ Templar award ended so abruptly. It's one of the central conflicts of the DA setting and I can't see how you can resolve it in any kind of satisfactory way in a short time. There has been so much build up, through DAO, DA2, and Asunder/The Masked Empire, that it needs time for all that to play out, otherwise it ends up being a shaggy dog story - all set up and an unsatisfying resolution. I was hoping for about 40% Mage/Templars, 40% Fade breaches, and 20% Orlesian Civil War. I am disappoint.

As long as I get an option that allows both the mages and templars to get over themselves and focus on the demons I'll be good. If not, will side with the mages on most of my playthroughs. Hope Carver isn't caught up in this mess. Would hate to kill my Hawke's brother.

The fact we can end the conflict "early" implies that the war was probably never going to be as long as people expected. Probably about as much as the Exalted March Expansion.

Given they were at peace-negotiation levels at the start of the game, much of the war has been "off-camera."

You are. Cameron Lee said, "You can bring an end to the conflict between the mages and the templars once and for all very early on in the game. You can align with one of those."

In addition, during the gameplay demo for The Hinterlands region, Mike Laidlaw clearly states "Our goal today is to bring the war between the mages and the Templars to an end, and our first step on that journey is to reach the village of Redcliffe."

This would suggest that the Inquisition's attack on Redcliffe Castle and ending Alexius as a threat is a significant aspect to ending the war, since the Redcliffe Castle demo carries on from The Hinterlands.
