I dunno about XBone, but PS3 and PS4 can work with keyboards. I had a keyboard in front of me, while playing FFXIV. It works perfectly. Since the game is so tactical, text chat would be very important. And since I mentioned FFXIV, it also had 'signs'. You could target characters, enemies and objects and put a sign on them, which was then seen by your whole party. The main use of this was telling the order in which to nuke the mobs and which mob to CC. It was a very useful feature.

If you want players to play tactically, give them the communication tools!

Maybe it will be like Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare...you get like 4 buttons that allow you to dance, point, wave, and bow...tee hee

Half of the women on my ME3 list never talked, and the other half only ever said "Hi" in the lobby and nothing else. When I asked one of them silent ones why, they said they'd prefer that people didn't know she was a girl. I didn't push for any more details, and just assumed she'd had bad experiences because of her gender.

I remember playing Battlefield BC2 with a woman who also tried to be discreet about being a woman. She did it because when guys knew she were a woman, they'd usually try to hit on her (which is particularly lame in such an international enviroment).

You are correct. It seems the D-Pad allows tactical commands (or rather... suggestions... as the party might not follow). And this is  abig deal to me. These 'signs' were very important and fun to use in FFXIV.

I have a disability that precludes me from using voicechat, and I pretty much have given up playing with other people in MMOs because of the crap I get.

That having been said, I can type over 100 wpm.  Text is still necessary for a lot of people.

I'd much rather prefer a text chat box instead of a mic.

I have no interest in hearing your dog bark, I don't want to hear your mom and dad tell you it's bedtime, I don't want to hear your awful music, and I don't want to hear you try to talk to me in a language I can't understand even after I said I only speak english.

My wife has S.A.D and she can't talk to strangers without a panic attack, so yeah a text box is a must for her, she has to avoid the multiplayer because she can't talk to people she doesn't know personally.

I know all too well the debilitating effects of social anxiety, as I suffer it as well.

That's what I understood. Costa explicitly reasked the question because the test players just mentioned voice chat as means of communication.

No in-game text chat as far as I can tell...

They did mention you can text chat via origin... but that leaves PUGs SOL.

There are a few emotes/commands and... jumping to try and get your point across without a mic I guess :P

That's really really disappointing, Bioware doesn't seem to learn from ME3 MP mistakes. No text chat for PC and no dedicated servers again.

PS. no push to talk ... how, why ... grrrr. At least we can mod that through autohotkey though, sigh.

Hey there! So I'm waiting for tomorrow to start playing DAI and eventually I will move to the multiplayer soon.

As I understood, there will be no possibility of turning off the mic. That's a real problem, because I have some experience in ME3MP and I can tell you that it can be annoying. I experimented it on both sides. I was living alone and therefore my mic was always open. I was speaking with my friends during the matches (at least the Italian ones, like me, so we were speaking Italian) and I heard a lot of complains from PUGs entering in the game. At first I got really angry, I was thinking "Ehi dude, you just entered a random game where there are 3 people that know each other, so shut up and play", but then it happened to me that I ended up in matches where there were people talking and I understood what the others meant. Especially, if it happens that you end up with people that don't speak English. So, my mic is off now and I usually chat with the people that I play with (added to the friend list because we found that we were playing well together).

Moreover, there's something I've never understood: you enter in a game and you want to tell something, why don't you use English? It should be more "universal" and most of the people know it a little.

Now I don't live alone anymore, and I would be pretty disappointed because I don't like to hear what's going on in other people's houses (TVs, eating, heavy breathing, no thanks!) and then I don't like that other players know what's going in my house (especially family coming and asking "who are you talking to?" and so on).

So I really hope that the game will be updated and the option for "push to talk" will be available!
